  1. Thanks Oldsmoboi, Yeah, I've spent lots of time looking at the Lux vs. non-Lux swap and what all it entails. Might not go that far, I've heard from a few Audio installers that it's not as easy or foolproof as some might say. At this point, I might just buy the $300 Magellan Nav that suctions to the dash and leave the damn radio alone! It sucks to have the curse of always wanting stuff done proper and the right way. I wish GM didn't charge so damn much for something that is so cheap elsewhere, I'd just have them do it at the factory when they built it. Thanks for all ya'lls help.
  2. Thanks for all your help guys! I guess it's just coming down to a salesman who doesn't know nearly as much as we do about our beloved trucks, and GM not proofreading their brochures. I could go down there and show them the brochure and make a stink, but it's not really the kind of guy that I am. Since I was on here today, now I'm even thinking about trying to pick up one of the factory nav. units that someone else has pulled out and try to put it in there. Thanks again for all the help, you guys are the best!
  3. Hey guys, not quite sure if this is where this thread belongs, but hopefully if not, It will get moved. I didn't know if the dealers typically follow a pattern in rebates through the months of the year. I ordered a new 2500HD and it will be here in February. DIdn't know if that was traditionally a bad month and hopefully they usually give bigger rebates then???????? I believe they're somewhere around $1500-2000 now. It will be my first ever new vehicle purchase, so I don't have any past experience with new car rebates to go back on. Thanks in advance.
  4. Sorry guys. The truck I ordered is a '08 2500 HD Crew cab SLT 4x4. Steel Grey with Ebony interior. I know what some places say, it's just crazy to me that the factory brochure that I have for 2008 would have the wrong information in it. A piece of literature that you hand out to consumers specifically for information, should have the right information in it, should it not?
  5. Ok guys, I need someone's help that maybe works at the factory or a dealership. I just ordered my 2008 GMC Sierra 2500 HD, well, it will be a while till I get it, so I was in my office just going through the brochure, reading about all my new goodies coming my way and noticed a discrepancy. When I filled out the order form in the audio section, it was an extra $300 or so for the in dash 6 disc changer on the radio. I hardly listen to CD's so I just took the single CD because it didn't cost any extra. However, looking through the brochure, I notice that on the SLT trim that I picked, the 6 disc in dash is standard with that trim package? Called my dealer and asked if he could check on it. I don't want to pay the extra $300 for it, but if it's already built into the price of the SLT, I'd like to have it since I'm paying for it. He calls me back the next day and says that there's an SLT1 and SLT2 package and the 6 disc in dash is only standard on the SLT2 package, and that I had ordered the SLT1?? NOw I'm no factory GM rep, but I've never heard of an SLT1 or SLT2. I know they offer and SLE1 and SLE2 trim level. HE also started saying the the SLT1 has 6 way pwer seats, and the SLT2 has the 10 way??? Anyone know if this guy is just being a typical salesman or is there any truth to this? I thought the only level up from the SLT was the Denali. There's no mention of any derivatives of the SLT trim anywhere in the brochure, online, etc. Next question, if he doesn't know what he's talking about, will the factory override my selection and just put the 6 disc in there if it's part of the SLT package? Thanks for your help guys. I don't want to go down there and raise hell if the guy is actually telling the truth.
  6. I noticed a section in the back of the brochure for my new truck that had this package. It's towards the back of the Sierra brochure. I had a question for someone that works at the factory. I noticed that the All Terrain package comes with a covered center console unit similar to the Denali's, just in the brushed metal finish instead of the wood on the Denali. Does anyone know if that is the same brushed metal finsih that flanks either side of the radio in the SLT trim. I have my new '08 SLT on order and am not crazy about the open catch all bin/cupholders that are between the seats. I'm assuming that is an insert that can be pulled out and I can order the same insert fromt he All Terrain package and come up with a nice clean look with the brushed metal doors covering everything for my SLT. Anyone that's seen them, let me know if you could. I think it will be one of those simple upgrades to clena up the truck that most people won't even be able to pick up on the you changed anything. Hope it works! Kanima- Your truck is a gas motor correct? How do you like that Diablo Predator? I've been thinking about getting one for my new SLT that's coming in, but I have the 6.0L gas motor. I know the Tuners don't do as much for the gas motors, but still interested in getting one if it helps on fuel economy. Any info would be appreciated, thanks!
  7. Newbie, I agree wholeheartedly on the ratings being only what they can safely put on there in our sue happy world we live in. I fully believe that they are the toughest trucks built by far, hence my soon to be purchase. I am leaning toward to 4.10's, just so I don't regret it. I own a construction company, so while the slightly increased fuel cost will suck, it's still a write off, and I don't want to be changing out the gears later casue I'm having trouble pulling something. Camino, I will drive the truck for a little while, but I'm 99% sure that it's going up. I'm on construction site's all the time, and spend quite a bit of time outdoors on my free time. WHile I'm not going incredibly high, the extra ground clearence and wider contact patch does help on a daily basis. Four Wheel parts is the company that is going to be doing the lift, and I'm leaning towards the Pro Comp kit. ( same kit my buisness partner has on his '02 2500 HD and the same one the dealers in our area put on the trucks they sell already lifted ) I'm only going 6" up and 35" tires exactly for the reason that I want to maintain ride quality and functionality. If I wanted it to ride like garbage, I'd have just bought a Ford and been done with it. I'm putting the Toyo Open Country Tires on it, no mud terrains here, so the ride should still be quiet and smooth. I drive over 20K miles a year, so it needs to be still be somewhat domesticated. I have gone out and rented a 2500 HD and driven it for several days to make sure I liked it and how the handled, manuevered, etc. Only thing now, is waiting for GM to build the damn thing, I'm going to order it on Wednesday. And I have to figure out a way to make it easy on the wife to get in and out of, she's only 5'2"! Thanks for all your help guys! I'll post pics once it gets here.
  8. Newbie, Thank you kind sir! Best explanation I've gotten so far! I just posted in the Tech section about the rear end gearing and if I need to pick the 4.10 rear end since I'm going to lift the truck and run 35" tires on it. Any insight yo have would be much appreciated! Thanks for the clarification on the other items. I appreciate all your help!
  9. Ok, you guys were pretty responsive on the other questions, now I've got a few more. I'm ordering the truck this week and wanted to run the final specs by you guys. First, a little background: I'll be purchasing the truck, and shortly after I recieve it, it will go into the shop for a 6" or 8" Pro Comp suspension lift, and to be fitted with some 35" tires. I was originally going to order the truck with the 3.73 rear end, but have heard that I need to go with the 4.10 rear end instead due to the bigger tires. I don't need the truck to smoke the tires or have lots of holeshot, but I don't want it to totally be a pig either. What do you guys think? 3.73 or 4.10??? I was told that the Duramax guys can't go with anything bigger than a 31 or 33" tire because they come with the 3.73 rear end, so if you want to put 35" tires on it, you have to swap out the gears in the back??? I don't want to mess with a factory package that is already plenty stout, but want to make sure I order the right stuff on my new truck. Does anyone know the difference in fuel economy from the 3.73 vs 4.10 gears if all other factors are the same? Thanks again in advance guys, I really appreciate all of your valuable advice and insight
  10. Griffon, Thanks for the input. I do trailer heavy loads, hence the need for the HD, but only maybe 5% of the 22-25K miles a year I drive and figured the highway driving with AFM would save some gas. Do we know if there is a different config. for the AFM or is it simply a computer program? The top Kick and Kodiak trucks are too much for what I need. I still need a truck that my wife and soon to be kid can get up in and we can go to the store. Anyone know about the flex fuel option and if it's available on the 6.0L HD's? I believe it's the lower GVW that I'm looking at. Just the regular 2500 HD, I believe it's the 9200 lb or under?
  11. Thanks guys! I defintely have the locking rear diff spec'd, along with HD trailering equipment, camper mirrors, etc. The gear thing just threw me off. I run all Amsoil in all the fluids of my vehicles and am pretty religious about changing them at or before the recommended intervals. I would love to have the diesel, however, the $8300 premium I can't swing at this point. I don't tow incredibly heavy loads, and even the really big ones are only a few times a year. BUt I tow 6-8000 lbs pretty frequently and figure one that is made for heavier loads, should handle those just fine. I just wanted to know that if I did have a 12K lb load back there, the gears aren't going to bust? All your help is much appreciated. Anyone know why you can't get the AFM on the HD's? I figured it would help GM meet some of the CAFE requirements to get some of those big trucks up there a little more in the fuel economy. I guess that leads to another question, if the 6.0L is available in the MAX package with the AFM, is it simply a computer program that needs to be downloaded to the truck that makes it have AFM? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm? I wonder if a well placed $100 bill to a friendly tech at my local GM dealer could solve my problem?? any thoughts from you guys?
  12. Thanks guys! I understand the basics of the gearing and know that it won't be as fast off the line or have the low end grunt of the 4.10 rear end, I was just shocked on GMC's website to see almost a 3000 lb drop in trailering capacity when you select the 3.73 gears with the gas motor. I don't tow at the limits of the truck that often, so I lean toward the 3.73 for the better economy, but if GMC's website is correct, the trailering capacity is no more than a Titan? I just don't understand how the gearing will drop the trailering capacity that much. As for the Active fuel management, It was confusing to me when the GMC brochure says that the 6.0L is available with the VVT and AFM for the 1500, didn't know if it carried over into the 2500's also. It's on the page that talks about the 5.3 with the AFM and says, " if you need even more power, you can select the 6.0L with variable vale timing and AFM" Just needed some clarification? Anyone know anything about the flex fuel option on the big boys? I'm very excited, my buisness partner has a 2500 HD 2002 and that truck can definitely take anything you throw at it! Thanks again guys!
  13. Glad I found you guys on here! This is my first post on the site, I hope it helps! I'm looking at ordering a new 2008 GMC 2500 HD. I am in the construction buisness and my Yukon is just not cutting it anymore. I have some questions that when I ask the local dealer, I'm not so sure they really know what they're talking about, hopefully someone on here does. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is the 6.0L V8 available in the HD with Active Fuel management? IF so, how do I spec it on my order? Why does the trailering capacity drop almost 3000lbs when you select 3.73 gears vs 4.10 in the gas motor? I want the better economy of the 3.73 rear end, but don't know if I want to sacrafice what the truck is really meant to do. what is the difference in fuel economy for the 3.73 vs. the 4.10 if all else is the same? Is the flex fuel option available on the 6.0L gas motor? Thank you in advance for anyone who has the time or knowledge to help out, it's a large purchase that I plan on having for a long time, just want to make sure I order the right truck. Thanks again!
