  1. Thanks. This Saturday I loaded my 9 year old grandson in the 48, and, we took her to a "Secret Santa" cruise in. It was about a 10 mile run up the interstate from my house, and, he was loving it. Neat thing was - I ran across the guy that had actually restored my car. As I pulled up to the check in table to drop off my toy donation, he recognized the car. Had a nice conversation with him about everything that had been done to it. You never know what's going to show up at these little local cruise-ins here - a little sports car with a prancing red horse logo on it showed up after I got there. I don't think many people even realized what it was. Anyway, it was an enjoyable afternoon - 93 assorted antiques, muscle cars, hot rods, and a Ferrari. Regards: Oldengineer
  2. Thank you. The color is a red used on Honda Accords in 92. I was able to get touch-up paint that matched perfectly from my local Honda dealer. Regards: Oldengineer
  3. Thanks everybody for the warm welcome. Its very enjoyable - motoring along in this old veteran Chevy. She's not quick, nor, does she have much top end. With only 90 HP on tap, and, a 4:11 rear end, you have to settle for some pretty relaxed cruising. Been to 5 local car shows so far, and, I've yet to see another stock 40's vintage Chevy. Regards: Oldengineer
  4. Thank you. The really funny thing about this car - is that its the same color as my other 2 cars. Wife and I have a burgundy fleet. Regards: Oldengineer
  5. Here's a picture of my 48. She's the last of the "fat-fender" Chevys. Regards: Oldengineer
  6. I used to post to this forum back when I owned a Saturn Aura. Now I have a "new to me" 62 year old Chevrolet sitting in my garage - It's a stock 1948 Model Fleetmaster Town sedan. Hello and good to be back. Regards; Oldengineer
  7. About a month ago, I found an antique Chevy for sale on Craigslist, and, it was not far from my house. My wife and I went to look at it, and, ended up buying it. Its a 1948 Chevy Fleetmaster 2 door Town Sedan in really nice shape. Under its hood is the original 48 90 HP inline 216 CID 6. It's fully equipped for its time - has a radio, heater/defroster, and a clock - all original. We've had her at 5 local car shows so far, and, scored a couple of trophies. I'm enjoying wrenching on and driving a car that was built when I was 2 years old. Regards: Oldengineer
  8. I think you'll find that the 3.5 Aura has a 0 - 60 time of about 7.9. That's what C/D got for the Pontiac G6GT with the 3.5/4 speed. Regards: Oldengineer
  9. I know what you mean. I once owned a 69 4-4-2. My son currently has a restored 68 Cutlass convertible. Under its hood, the 350 deuce and 2 spped automatic are long gone. In its place is a well massaged Olds 425 big block coupled to a built THM 400. He's beefed the suspension, rear end (positraction), added disc brakes, and reinforced the chassis to handle the power this monster developes. The thing accelerates like its shot out of a cannon, and, is way quicker than my 4-4-2 ever was. Regards: Oldengineer
  10. I've got an 08 Aura 3.5 with 21K miles on it. On the hilly interstates I drive, it delivers better fuel economy than the 4 cyclinder cars I've owned - including Hondas. So far the Aura has been bulletproof. Regards: Oldengineer
  11. Have to disagree with you a bit. I owned a 69 4-4-2 brand new. Bought it right after I graduated from college. Loved that car for its quickness and handling at the time. Fast forward 40 years, and, now, I own a 4 door sedan that will accelerate as fast as the 4-4-2 did, easily out corner it, and has more top end. Over the years I owned 4 Oldsmobiles - besides the 4-4-2, there was a 73 Cutlass 350, a 75 231 V6 Starfire, and a 78 403 Custom Cruiser. Yeah, I like to look at them at car shows, but, just don't have the itch to own one anymore. Regards: Oldengineer
