Vehicle Introductions

Featured Replies

What's your opinion on GM (and others) vehicle introductions. Should they be in September or randomly throughout the year?
Randomly. If a vehicle could debut in March there's no reason to delay it a few months just so it can debut in September. That's too many lost sales and it just doesn't make sense. In the old days when everyone debuted the new vehicles in the fall it was fine, but you have to adjust to the competition.
Introduce them when they're ready, no earlier and no later. But I also like intros towards the beginning of the year, that way you have a new car for a longer time.
When they're ready, within reason (as mentioned with the winter convertible).
When they're ready. September intros work when everyone does it and its been a long, long time since that happened.

The traditional ritual of olden days.... paper on the showroom windows and all has a certain romance to me. I was never alive to experience that but waht a thrill that must have been.

To be riding on the school bus on a cool September morning in 1958 and being amazed by the wonderous Rocketships in the Olds Showroom... the angry Doctor's cars that have nothign in common wiht their MY1958 predecesors except the drawer-pull grille... and the smooth and futuristic twin port grille of the Bonneville in the showroom wiht the Indian on top... then it's off to Chevrolet where the rear ends look like they're modeled after Seagulls and Plymouth, Dodge, Chrysler, with their trademakr fins geting higher and even more funky....

and then after you think you've seen it all there's Cadillac. Quad Bullet shaped tail lights, insanely tall fins, torpedo shaped body and enough chrome to melt down and make 27 VeeDubs.

No denying there's something very cool about that!
