Hot on the heels of the veiled news that Teslas are going to effectively be $3625 more expensive by the end of 2019 (with the ratcheting down of the EV tax credit once a manufacturer hits 200K units sold), Tesla announced today that they are discontinuing the 'entry level' 75 kw Model S  and Model S by this Sunday night. That's a 72 hour notice.

What this means --in the case of the Model S for example-- is that the future buyer of that Tesla is staring at an $18,000 price increase.

If I have this correct, the average starting MSRP for a Tesla next week will be $84,000.

So much for "electric cars for the masses".

And this dovetails exactly with what I said a month or 2 ago- that even if battery costs fall, those savings will NOT be passed onto consumers, especially once volume rises markedly.
