Volkswagen debuted the refreshed 2020 Passat at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show, bringing a bolder front fascia, standard LED headlights, and updated interior technology to the midsize sedan. The redesign features a wider chrome grille, available R-Line sport appearance package with dark machined alloy wheels, and an upgraded 8-inch touchscreen with App-Connect smartphone integration. A 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission carries over, while revised suspension tuning improves ride comfort and handling balance.

Yes, Kia it would be the EV3 but we do not get it due to Idiot47 There is the Kia Niro EV. 13 in your area which 7 are used. They also have their Hybrids which have done very well. 24k + gas will never pay for itself, in my situation. I'd also be using a little bit of gas every day, so it wouldn't go bad for me. Also, I thought Volts would periodically run automatically just to fully heat up and burn old gas, if they're being run "too much" on battery alone. In my situation, the Hyundai Ionic Electric fits the bill as well. 125 miles of range and roughly the same price of an E Golf/Volt. I believe the Kona Electric was Kia's version of the Ionic Electric.

Oh I agree, but if I'm spending that much, I'd just make the jump to a Prologue(it's a little bigger than a Mach-E) to replace my Navigator. A Bolt/e golf/Volt/Leaf is something that I'd buy as a 2nd vehicle just to commute to and from work. I'm not a huge fan of leases either. If I didn't drive so much, I think a lease would work though. I think a 20k mile lease would make the payment on even a cheap EV pretty high. I did sit in one a few weeks ago when my Navigator had recall work done. They're not toooo small.

Mileage may complicate lease for him, and I don't like leasing, they hold all the cards on returns with wear and tear and what they can subjectively consider excessive. I can satisfy the beat on. One practical idea-buy a Maverick Hybrid. LOTS of happy owners. We ALMOST pulled the plug on one when I bought the Camry. VERY impressed with what Ford did with that, and they seem to be reliable and durable.

I'll look into it, but no issues that I've heard. The only thing I've heard is common with most direct injection engines and that is carbon build up. The GM 2.7T like to get beat on. Don't baby it. Blow that carbon out of there.

Actually one car that has grown on me, would consider if I didn't need a truck for the next one, is Ford Mach E. More $ than Bolt, but larger, better looking, more practical. I actually really like these. Actually, I would prefer something EV from the ground up. You have me curious about smaller KIA/Hyundai EV products. My wife wanted hybrid so we went Camry, but interested in Kia EV.

I would honestly like to know about the turbo 4 in the Colorado and Canyon, if you could enlighten me. We replaced our Chevy Aveo (22 years old!) with a new Camry Hybrid. VERY happy with it. Still use my truck as a truck all the time, hauling lumber, logs, bicycles, tools, etc. Would be VERY interested in the Colorado or Canyon, would also consider the current (refreshed from my 2020) Ranger as well as Tacoma. Toyota fanboi's not hugely excited about Turbo 4 in Tacoma, unsure of GM Turbo 4 reliability. The Turbo 4 in my Ranger has been fantastic, 24.2 MPG last tank, 136,000 miles no real issues. Regards, Chris Even at 12 grand, to me buying a Corolla Hybrid at 2x the price would make sense just because I really don't like the abandoned tech. Also, every Volt owner I know had gas start going bad in the tank because they used so little gasoline. Used Volt OTOH, cheap, and much newer tech. With technology in modern cars, I doubt very seriously I buy a car over five years old again, unless it is like a 50's/60s/70s vintage hobby vehicle. They do look cool.

First Gen Volt is abandonware, yes. Your situation actually sounds ideal for a short-term commuter scooter, mostly because Volts can be had so cheap. On a long commute like that, you'd be into the gas sometimes and into the regen part of the way on the trip and still getting 45 mpg when on gas. If you can charge at both ends, even better. The way you commute you really could take acquisition costs in mind because whatever you get is going to have to be considered disposable. What makes it key though is cost. You can get a 2016+ Volt with 60k miles for like $12,900.
