  1. the CAW and Ontario government have already started to fight back against Oshawa's closing

    - Ontario won’t hesitate to recoup part of a $175-million provincial loan to General Motors earlier than planned in the wake of the automaker’s decision, Premier Dalton McGuinty said today.

It’s early yet, but the loss of 1,000 jobs — the latest blow to Ontario’s ailing manufacturing sector — likely means GM will be in violation of one of the conditions of the loan guarantee, McGuinty said.

Hargrove said GM committed in writing to produce pickups in Oshawa through the life of the new collective agreement which was ratified only two weeks ago.

He said the automaker also promised that Oshawa would build a new generation of light-duty trucks to be introduced in 2011 or 2012.

  2. that would probably take away Malibu's "most efficient mid-sized" status.

Rather than a more efficient V6, I'd like to see a more powerful 4-cylinder as an additional option. Chevy should continue to offer the current base 4-cylinder all the way up the model line to the LTZ.

or maybe throw a 5 or 6 speed manual at it. not only would that help fuel economy numbers, but it would increase the marketability of the car

  3. Just about every convertible variant has added reinforcement in the side and doors when compared to the non-convertible variants. Again, I don't see how Sigma is somehow incapable of having a convertible, when much less rigid platforms of the past have spawned convertibles.

exactly. and from what I believe he means is it stands now, the Sigma platform does not have this reinforcements so it can't do a convertible. If sigma was modified it could, but it might not make a good business case

  4. in its current form, if it wasn't designed with the required reinforcement to make up for the reduce rigidity that comes with the loss of a fixed roof, then it can't do a vert.

and given the engineering and tooling mods required to add it and the decreased fuel efficiency from the increased weight, it might not make business sense
