  1. First, common sense, EVERYONE, EVERYONE has to ramp up battery production. BYD has had huge help from the Communist party. I DO NOT see BYD coming to the U.S. any time soon. The current auto's DO NOT meet our crash test or other safety requirements. Even in China where VW is a leading ICE and among Non-Chinese auto companies lead that market, but even for them they are having to ramp up. End result is while GM has secured plenty of capacity for raw materials, is currently building 4 battery cell plants, upgrading multiple assembly plants to support EVs, it takes time, just like it took Tesla a decade to get where they are now. GM will have done what Tesla did in 10 years in about 2 years' time as all the plants come online. Even if Tesla gets their Cyber Truck POS starting to be produced, it will still take them a year to ramp up to a steady build of trucks which tesla has stated will be about 100,000 trucks at full capacity. They are working to get test mules out and even that is not running yet. Full production is expected by the end of 2023 with them recording their first quarter full production sales at the end of March 2024. Tesla to start Cybertruck production two years late - report - Just Auto (just-auto.com) Tesla has not stated what they consider full production but has stated it will likely follow the other models that were brought online in a plant and ramped up, so that would be 100,000 trucks at the end of 2023 and who know s how much more. GM and FORD are officially on record with turning out a new truck every minute or less. Ford is on official record that this year they have been turning out a new truck every 52 seconds. Ford Dearborn Truck Plant Gives Birth To An F-150 Every 52 Seconds (fordauthority.com) Tesla will have a harder time ramping up than the Legacy OEMs will. Toyota and pretty much any company that is behind in the EV race is going to find it harder and harder regardless of how much money they have to catch up as they slip further and further behind. Toyota has not prepped well for the EV future and so will find it harder and harder with every year they are delayed in moving to EVs.
  2. Had to spend money on my rides this week. $1,600 for new rotors, calipers and ceramic pads front and back on the Escalade. 180,000 plus miles and had only needed a pad set last few times, but this time, the rotors were warped due to having been machined the last few times and one of the rear calipers had frozen so messed up that. Went new all around to ensure solid safe braking with Ski season approaching and wet cold fall. $1,124.91 for troubleshooting and new CPU on the SS. 200,000 miles almost, probably will crack it by the end of November, but my check engine light kept coming on rotating the same error message among all my oxygen sensors. I honestly when the repair shop said they suspected the CPU was thinking 2 to 3 thousand or so due to the chip shortage. Lucky for me, due to it being the 6L V8, the chips are readily available and was much cheaper. Now to wash them one at a time, put them in the garage to warm and dry and then give them their fall/winter wax job.
  3. Seems North Carolina is wanting to move faster than other states, much like California in a Govenor mandate to move to Electric buses and medium and heavy duty trucks. Governor Cooper Signs Executive Order to Grow North Carolina’s Clean Energy Economy by Supporting the Market-Driven Transition to Zero-Emission Trucks and Buses | NC Gov. Cooper
  4. Seems Taco Bell is wanting to ensure folks can get to their restaurants for the EV generation. As such, they are going to install fast charge chargers for customers to use that will give 100 miles of range in 20 minutes so that folks can stop, charge up the EV and themselves with Taco Bell food. Taco Bell will install chargers at 100 locations next year and continue that every year till all have chargers. EV fast-charging at 100 Taco Bells: A new norm for fast food? (greencarreports.com) Very cool electric conversion of an old Nissan Pickup to a modern Leaf Powertrain. Vintage Nissan Sunny electric pickup hauls with Leaf power (greencarreports.com) 1987 Nissan Sunny Pickup left the assembly plant new with 73 hp and 78.6 lb-ft of torque. Now it has 147 HP 236 lb-ft of torque. Cool Conversion
  5. Interesting read. GM Dials Back EV Sales Target, Following Upbeat Earnings Report - WSJ Pretty much what I have been saying about the chicken or the Egg. In this case ramping up the battery production is not easy or fast and LG while ahead of schedule in building the battery plants, is still working out the nuances of battery cell production. GM is now planning to sell 400,000 EVs from Jan 1st 2023 to the end of June 2023.
  6. Wrong, Tesla is not just the default everyone is buying, the discounts and quick delivery is proof of that now. Like all new Autos, there is a ramp up period and you know this that they cannot just turn a handle and go from 50,000 to 500,000 a year.
  7. If I had any artistic skills, I would love to photoshop into a modern version this 1986 Monte Carlo Aero on the Ultium Platform. Stretch the trunk back a little, but otherwise a smoother modern version of this would be cool.
  8. True, one could always overwhelm the existing chargers, but then that is the point of all new things, they grow and get more plentiful. Especially since by 2025 even the OEMs and yes this includes Tesla are expecting to start moving to solid state, so I really do not see this as an issue.
  9. I chalk up the gasket thing to being no different than all the little nit-picky things ICE autos have when a new auto is released. Look at all the issues Ford has had with the Bronco or GM had with the tick tick sound of the engines in the most current trucks and SUVs. Yes, I agree it is a bad look, but I also get it that they will have overlooked small issues in their initial EV startup. Yes, I would have expected something like this to show up in the test mules rather than the customer rides. This is not the end and I think GM will be just fine.
  10. According to the Feds, there are 14 Level 2 / Fast DC charging stations in Redding. Charged Future website of public charging stations show that 3 of these stations are high power or DC fast charging stations. This to me is no different than having to search out a gas station. The only difference is the longer time to charge up, but as I have said before, you could easily plan around going to a place, plugging in for Charging and then go to do your activity while the auto charges. Easy Peasy!
  11. I find plenty of chargers at hotels, most seem to have 4 to 6 chargers. I know for a fact that the Best Western Hill Top Hotel in Redding California, my halfway point to visiting family in the greater LA area has 4 chargers. Seems to always be one available for charging.
  12. If this had the sexy looks of the mid 80's Monte Carlo, I would be all over it. But that series 1 does not look good, it is terrible. Fords GT is way better looking than this as is the original Shelby. Nope, will not agree with you, but glad you like this Carp Mouth air intake, fisheyes headlights, weird sized wheel wells and the odd styling flow. At least we can agree to disagree and I am very happy that you and @oldshurst442 like it and would own it. For me, I will stay with a more mid 80's Monte Carlo auto style or my love of Trucks and SUVs. ?
  13. @oldshurst442 @ccap41 Come on guys, we all do not like trolling, but at the same time, freedom of speech is freedom of speech. Let this water flow under the bridge and move on with the Discussion of the Awesome Cadillac CELESTIQ and how it will push the boundaries of Standard of the World. Agree to disagree and move forward. While we have the expected Battery compartment leakage in the Hummer so a stop sell on them and awaiting a fix for the gasket seal issue, I do find it interesting how various news outlets and even some people have stated this is a death nell for GM and EVs. Like all new technology, the whole reason for the very expensive 1% crowd ownership is their ability to spend money on helping get the technology to full real world use ready. Tesla had these problems also in the early days, so like Tesla, GM as well as all Legacy Auto companies that are moving into the EV space will have issues they have to iron out before mass adoption is done. Better to have a few hundred Hummers find a problem like a bad gasket design than a few 100,000 customers.
  14. Yes, they have for this year maxed out capacity, increasing capacity like all auto makers are for next year. January shutdown will allow them to make some assembly line changes and get other things ready for a doubling of production. Good news for the U.S. as Kia and Hyundai also next year move production of their EVs to the U.S. I understand your work truck, truck thinking, but due to Rivian being a smart marketing company, they hit the term Lifestyle truck and now when you look at various advertising forms, that is a very popular term for all trucks that are not actually bought and used by a commercial company in the work field. Cost, Options and especially now the woman who are buying more trucks than guys, Lifestyle truck is the modern marketing term now. I stand by my thinking that a Denali, AT4, etc. trims are far more a lifestyle choice by the buyers than a truck to be a truck, used as a commercial truck in a dirty muddy work site truck.
  15. Yes as I posted, standard Escalade is 211 inches long, CELESTIQ is 216 inches long. Escalade ESV is 229.6 inches long. CELESTIQ will fit in between the two options of Escalade.
  16. Let me fix this for you, Free HATE speech Twitter ownership thing. I give Twitter 24 months before it closes down due to Musk. Musk needs to be fired from his CEO duties of Tesla, he is clearly way too focused on Fake news, Conspiracy Theories and his own Narcissistic needs to LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME to properly run an auto company.
  17. Yet Tesla is already having to discount as sales have dropped off the cliff and they are now into pretty fast delivery times. These are the Tesla wait times for every model | Tom's Guide (tomsguide.com) Want a Model Y or 3, depending on the choices you pick in building your EV, you can get it from a week later to sometime in December. Clearly having discounts, bringing back the Tesla Loyalty Ownership program, Tesla is no long the EV auto to wait for as better options are hitting the market. You actually have to wait if you want a Kia or Hyundai EV. Imagin that.
  18. Are you sure you are not sick again with Covid? This has the looks? A weird hood / light design with a Carp like air inlet. This is anything but good styling, even the wheel wells from front to back look off and just not good. This is a weird butt ugly car. That is OK, Usually the harder they try to sell this will never happen, the more truthful it is that it will happen. GM as well as other auto companies seem to have always followed this messaging to protect current existing product, but usually it has become tru.
  19. FYI - My Cadillac dealership is almost done with the new building as they tore down the old 1950's Cadillac,Buick,Oldmobile,GMC dealership as it still had sandblasted windows with all 4 logos. I wonder if anyone thought to save the glass, probably not, but a modern Showroom will be open on November 17th for a by invitation only grand opening and they will have a couple LYRIQs on the show room for people to check out and more from GM according to my invite. I have already RSVP's for the wife and I. Yes, I am going mainly to try my large frame in the LYRIQ and see if I can fit in the back also with the front seat set for me. Will take pictures. It is much farther along than this from during the summer.
  20. But it should since Mercedes is saying the same thing about 3D printing that they say they have used for the last 30 years which I find weird and hard to understand since 3D printing has not been around that long, but according to them it has and they have been using it all along. Mercedes-Benz replacement parts from the 3D printer. Mercedez-Benz restarts classic cars with 3D printed parts - 3D Printing Industry Mercedes-Benz Turns to 3D Printing for Plastic Spare Parts | Additive Manufacturing Mercedes Vision EQXX features directly and indirectly 3D printed parts (3dprintingmedia.network) Mercedes-Benz Trucks Rolls Out First Metal 3D Printed Part: An Aluminum Thermostat Cover for Older Truck Series - 3DPrint.com | The Voice of 3D Printing / Additive Manufacturing Daimler Buses implements 3D printing to produce bespoke Mercedes-Benz parts - 3D Printing Industry So how do you justify it not being a cool or important thing in auto building when Daimler / Mercedes-Benz says they have been doing it anywhere from 30 years ago to 10 years ago using it on trucks and buses?
  21. ? Really, you used to compare the S-Class to these as well as you have mentioned in the early days before the EQS actually started to ship that it would be in this class, now because Mercedes does not have anything to compete, you try to play it down. Just accept that Cadillac is getting here first ahead of Mercedes. END OF LINE!
  22. Ran some errands today and saw a number of interesting sites. Like New Chevrolet GEO that has a Classic Auto license plate. Built from 1989 to 1997, Amazing that someone kept it in such good shape for the old guy driving it and he had it licensed under the classic auto licenses. Oldsmobile Aurora, still running, but wish I could have grabbed a picture, back end and front end held together with black duct tape. RIP CT6 V, saw it ahead of me, my wife recognized the V on the rear of the CT6. Rare auto indeed.
  23. Very cool, 7 pages of cars, interesting that American Muscle is cheaper than European or Asian autos. Toy Cars – Drive What You Love | Vehicles | LEGO.com | Official LEGO® Shop US
  24. I like all the new Lego sets, interesting is the love hate debate over the new Lego Logo and box design. Guess some are really hung up on the past and see no reason to modernize or change. Crazy. ? Wonder how long before they get the EVs done as Lego Sets, would be cool to have the Cadillac LYRIQ, CELESTIQ and ESCALADE in a Lego.
  25. If someone actually looked at the Cadillac website you would have seen in the specifications that the Escalade ESV is 229.6 inches long, Escalade standard is 211 inches long and CELESTIQ is 216 inches long. Yes, it is sized to the Escalade, but not the ESV version.
