Very well said.

Like I promised on the other thread: I donno why I felt obligated to give a Quiet-Tuned comparo to C&G, but I did. That's why this thread exists.
-
Thanks for your perspective on my perspective, Brian. Your comment on individualism vs. mundane was spot on. Oh yeah, I can tell by your tone that you're just asking. Grow up. I slapped my judgement on the Lucerne months ago (my first review), the good folks at C&G read it, we had some fun...but now its the ES's turn for judgements.
-
Works for me!
-
I like the sound too. But don't tell me that ride is quiet tuned, with both on the highway, at least the Lexus is dead silent sometimes.
-
Because it growls all the time. Have you folks driven a Lucerne and its competition?
-
If Buick had an engine on par with the Lexus, it would truly be "Quiet Tuned". Simple as that.
-
I never said the Lexus doesn't fail, did I? Whatever makes you feel better. I got plenty to complain about with the Lexus, but that's for the road test review on TTAC, not for C&G.
-
Damn right. Headers on my Mercury Cougar too.
-
We seem to have a communication problem, so let me make a couple points CRYSTAL CLEAR for you. 1. The Northstar growls all the time. Part throttle, full throttle, it doesn't matter. You only hear a Lexus come to life when you floor it. 2. Quiet Tuning is a joke if the motor is still loud. Unless you make the whole car quiet, you failed.
-
I donno if you've drove one, but the northstar growls all the time. I like it, but my daily drivers have headers and 2.5" exhausts. Most prefer a Lexus-quiet motor.
-
Well, I just came back from a 400mi trip in the Lexus ES 350 and here are my thoughts. 1) At 75mph, the Lexus ES has SIGNIFICANTLY more wind noise than a "Quiet Tuned" Lucerne. 2) The ES has a lot of road noise on coarse pavement, more than a Lucerne on any pavement I drove on. 3) Stomp the throttle for passing and the ES gives a muted howl, its much quieter than the Lucerne at WOT. So I stand by my words, the Lucerne is a quiet car on the highway, provided you don't get on the gas much. The Lucerne needs an engine as quiet as the Lexus ES to fit my definition of "quiet tuning."

Enzl said entertainment, not humor, and there's a lot of that. There's also a lot of inflammatory opinions and analysis of financial reports, which you don't have to believe to enjoy reading it. If something bad does happen to GM, you can bet the Death Watch chronicles will be a reference, much like this recent movie based on a book.
-
You should get a sense of humor.

1. I gave up everything to go to design school in another state (CCS in Detroit, anyone?) and for a year it was worth it. Things soured, and I came back home and I had most everything back the way it was...so I'm probably not much of a help. 2. I felt doomed to a life of pointless jobs and wasted energy (no kids, at least not yet), but I started writing car reviews and my whole life changed. I haven't felt this good in years, maybe ever. Come on dude, tell us why you started this thread.
-
That was right on the money. I mean, damn that's good. Thanks for that.

You forgot to copy this part of the article: Please hyperlink to other people's work when they have a message like this at the end.

LOL, that was hilarious. I wouldn't be that direct to you, Tama...but hey, we don't plan on changing our style because tens of thousands of readers like our work. And you guys have been less than cordial with my work, we have to deal with $h! like this all the time. So quit yer whining.
-
Well they already do. :AH-HA_wink: Maybe that was the mantra back in the 1960s, or maybe Alfred Sloan said that. These days GM needs to focus on making money, one good way is to introduce class-leading cars at every opportunity.

Nope, like I said before, I'm an attention whore looking for an ego stroke. LPE Z06 Review: http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/?p=200 Z06 Review: http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/?p=422

Well you're certainly entitled to your opinion. We provide a wonderful service to the (tens of?) thousands of readers we have. Case in point: my review of the Lingenfelter Z06 was read by a dude in Russia, who chatted with me and decided to ship his car back to America for Lingenfelter's engine package after that. I could probably dig up a few more, but the press junket to Canada and the Russian Z06 getting a heart transplant are good enough for me. All in all, not a bad deal for a college kid who started writing for TTAC back in March.
-
Says you. Again, TTAC is a thriving website. Its a guilty pleasure for many people in the car biz. If Buick read my review and wanted to meet the man behind the (insert negative remark here) writing, we gotta be doin' something right.
-
I get Kudos from an owner of one of my fav GM products (Aurora). Most excellent.
-
Maybe so. Too bad it didn't work. No more free lunches for me.

balthazar: what can I say, I'm a drama queen. cmattson: I don't need people to think I am "neutral" because I'm not. If I don't like something, I'm gonna say it. buyacargetacheck: Of course all MBAs think they know more than they actually do. And sweeping generalizations are fun too. But I had a Buick, I like old 1970s-1980s Buicks, and my smartass doesn't like the bean-counted, old chassis'd Lucerne. And since I've never driven a SRT4 or Evo, I really can't write about them. Maybe I'll round out the package and drive a Lucerne CX. Yes, yes and yes. Except tens of thousands of people (aka "unique visitors" in computerspeak) read TTAC every week from around the world. Or to put it another way, about 20 times more people read TTAC than C&G's current number of registered users. Thanks for distilling 800 words into one phrase. Do you normally lock onto one statement and judge an entire body of work on it???
