  1. The Insight was also a hybrid and cost 3 times as much new. This is a trike in the eyes of the law (except Connecticut's) but for all practical purposes it is a car. It's got better amenities than my Sunfire. It would put a huge dent in the cost of my 48-mile work commute. An economical car should be about saving money, which is the opposite of what you do when you by a current hybrid. This is the high-MPG car for the rest of us. I'm excited for it.

  2. Several years ago Dartz was going to offer one of their models with the option of being upholstered in leather made from whale foreskin, until the World Wildlife Fund became outraged over it.

  3. At one point on my way home today I was literally surrounded by Mopars. 3 T&Cs, 2 200s, a 300, a Charger, a Dakota, and an old Voyager.

Later I saw a tan mid-70s Vette at a local root beer drive-in, and a gold Fiero GT at a gas station.

  4. This is not really a spot. But I had a dream last night about a car. It was a kit-built, low, wedge-shaped, 2+2 shooting brake with metallic purple paint, parked in a yard in my neighborhood. I saw it and thought about posting about it here. Then I "borrowed" it and took it for a joyride with some friends, and ended up getting pulled over by the cops.

    Just thought I'd share.

  5. I quite like that Viking 45 concept. Good looking and 118 MPG? Fits my dream daily driver parameters. The program has a very interesting history.

I don't know much at all about engines, but while I suspect we could have had present-day fuel economy ten to twenty years ago, the companies didn't have nearly the same incentive to make them back then as they do nowadays after the War for Oil, the Great Recession, and new CAFE requirements, and all the extra equipment cars carry now.
