  1. You honestly believe growth would have been any different without those tax rates? Hell those tax rates probably actually helped because the government was so in debt at the time. But those are different times than now.

As for Japan, their economy isn't exactly stellar :AH-HA_wink:

I think those tax rates did help and are something we should consider today.

  2. Oh i know it would totally ruin everything and make things bad for the worst off. BUT the point is that in the long run everyone is better off than they were before.

Your plan still puts us into debt whereas mine does not. Yours stabilizes and draws poor growth for a long period of time until said debt is repaid.

Mine drags us out of debt through government downsizing crashes the economy and allows it to rebuild from the ashes with very strong growth in the future.

Plus mine drags down inflationary powers of ALL kinds as well as relieving people of debt since they will all be bankrupt and thus debt free :P

Something to consider: Taxes for the 3% richest in the United States was not below 70% until the 80s. Infact during the strongest growth period of our country, 1940s, 50s, and 60s, taxes where at 90% for the upper income group.

Something else to ponder: In Japan and Europe, where CEOs make modest wages, income tax reaches 90% for those making in the millions. In the US, where CEOs make millions, taxes are 35%.

  3. If GM added BAS II to every car they had now, they would achieve the government requirement without changing a thing. Yes, a V8 Camaro might cost $1500 more, but in the end atleast we would get to keep the 400+hp V8 in all it's glory, and you could have the opportunity to use the "pulse and glide" technique to try and get 30+ mpg with it.

  4. Hasn't GM had some supplier issues with the batteries for the BAS I? If the issues are sorted out, and they can get the volume, it would be an interesting idea. Personally, though, I would rather have a car that gets awesome gas mileage because that extra cost was invested in some better, safer, and more lightweight materials. Put the cars on a diet, GM! :)

Why not both? Also BAS II gives us the opportunity to keep cars like the Camaro and G8 while still achieving the EPA requirements.

  5. My local Chevy Dealer, Loren Berg, is rated #1 in the Oregon so they are here to stay. The GM rep told them they are the model Chevy Dealer.

The next nearest Chevy Dealer towards Portland is being closed down, Russ Chevrolet (poor service, crappy building, bad location). The one in our county seat, Jim Doran Chevrolet, got a warning letter. Rumor has it that the Buick/GMC/Cadillac dealer in the same town was approached by GM to take over the Chevy Dealer.

  6. Something else to consider. GM could increase product they have beyond the government requirements by making BAS II standard equipment in every vehicle. At a cost of $1600 to $1700, they would be able to make up the loss by eliminating incentives, which would be easy to do when every product you have eliminates the competition in gas mileage. GM could easily have a 3 to 5 year advantage by doing this.

Also consider that the government is stating it should cost automakers $1300 to improve the mileage and with GM building BAS II in bulk, I'm guessing they could quickly get the cost below the $1300 mark.

  7. The Cruze is being introduced to the US in 2010 and so is BAS II. GM has stated that BAS II is platform flexible, unlike BAS I. The press release and interviews about BAS II seemed to focus alot around the use of a turbo with the system. Could GM be "smart" enough to introduce BAS II with the Cruze? What about the Orlando?

If the combined gas mileage for a 1.4L Turbo Cruze was 32 mpg, which is not unreasonable considering statements made by the company, than a Cruze with the 1.4L Turbo, with flexfuel capability, and BAS II could/should be 38 to 39 combined mpg. That would provide some major help to GMs EPA #s and would be great PR.

  8. ...Yeah this SUCKS....& F******G Toyopet just got 25 BILLION from the Japan National Bank for USA Operations ???

You KNOW what they are gonna do with that !!!....

"Hey Missa Pontiac Deera, we gonna pay to keep you doors open,....Just sell our S*** Ass cars....Many American SUCKERS will buy...We sending CHECK to you Right NOW !!!....Sianara, Bitch"

    ....this is BAD.

Very Bad, see Toyo's New add on TV ???

...bunch of RETARDS running to the Local Toyo dealership, & they DO NOT even show ONE car in the Ad !!!!

....They are doing a "McDonalds" on the USA....!!!

...ARE WE REALLY this STUPID ???

Sadly, yes. We do the same with walmart, mcdonalds, toyota, etc.

  9. We're not in a free market and haven't been in one for over 100 years. If the government had said that 30 years ago, there'd be no Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge, or Jeep.

All of you anti-government people really need to put down your Reagen tribute books (because he's the one who made it cool to vilify government) and get over yourselves. Government is NOT the root of all evil. It is not the end of GM. We're not going to be all driving Eco-Trabants.

I hope you like your Audi's and Porches built by a company PARTIALLY OWNED BY THE GERMAN STATE OF LOWER SAXONY!

France owns about 15% of Renault who owns 49% of Nissan.

You people need a hard slap in the face and calm the f@#k down.

Edit: This is one of those times I wish I wasn't a mod and we didn't have politics rules so I could really kick the crap out of you people on here. This was a nice, yet unnecessary, tribute thread, ruined by idiot politics.

    Well put. Thank you.

  10. Yea, with Brocade closing the engineering site here in Kirkland, WA and Microsoft having just let another 2500 engineers go, the job search is very lousy and I am actually thinking it might be time to try something else. Hate the Idiots in this country who think the way to profit is to out source your job to india.

Wake up America, out sourcing is a short term fix for Upper mgmt stupidity over not doing the right job to begin with, not budgeting properly, not managing the project properly, not PIPing the poor performing employees, etc. The list is long but I am not too much of a I do not give a $h! as I am tired of working my ass off for a company that cannot look long term to making things happen the right way.

Nice is the weather here in Seattle has been awesome. :P

IT has been going through what GM, Ford and Chrysler went through years ago. I do wonder if it makes any IT people reconsider buying "foreign". At some point in time, the IT industry will learn they can get people cheaper in the south, just like the automotive industry, and they will move. As they move there will be no job protection, as they are non-union, and there will be union to blame for companies execs getting greedy and making stupid moves.

On a more positive note: I do love the Northwest. We have good weather overall, assuming you can get used to the spring, fall, winter, summer rains. Never to hot for long, never to cold for long.

  11. Dsuupr, what did you think of the interior?

I sat in one earlier this afternoon (1LT) and actually found no problems with the interior, save for the latch to open the center console.

I found the interior on the RS to be nice, not Audi nice, but decent overall. I like that it didn't have to many buttons like an acura or honda. It was an easy to understand layout.

  12. My wife and I went over to our local Chevy Dealer (Loren Berg Chevrolet) to test drive the new Camaro. We got to be the first "customer" to drive it, so we took it home and got some pictures of it in front of our home (for proof). In typical Loren Berg fashion we took it out without any salesperson in the car. It does help that I am friends with the owner, Loren.

The car drove just like all the reports said it would, darn near perfect.

It is a Silver V6 model with the RS package.

You can see pictures of it at www.flickr.com/dsuupr

  13. City West is all the unionized Seattle workers and west west is the RedNeck Crowd that works in Bremerton. :P

Yup I agree us Eastside folks in Kirkland area are the normal, laid back Independants. :D

Over the years I have learned that an independent is considered to have a Republican mindset in the Northwest and a liberal mindset in the South. As my Father-in-Law says, he is a liberal in Arkansas and a conservative in Oregon.
