Graduated Highschool at the start of the 80's, college in the late 80's and second round in 91, married and family since then. For me the major news is the mess of the 80's and 90's, this is the bullet list of what hits my memory: Iran Hostage Crisis (1979–1981): The U.S. embassy in Tehran was seized by militants, leading to a 444-day standoff. Reagan Era & Reaganomics: President Ronald Reagan promoted tax cuts, reduced government spending, and a strong defense posture, aiming to counter Soviet influence. Iran–Contra Affair (1985–1987): Secret arms sales to Iran and funding to Nicaraguan Contras drew congressional scrutiny and legal action. Fall of the Berlin Wall (1989): Symbolized the collapse of communist regimes in Europe and the end of the Cold War History. AIDS Epidemic: First recognized in 1981, it became a major public health crisis, especially affecting gay men and others History. Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster (1986): The shuttle exploded 73 seconds after launch, killing all seven crew members History. MTV Launch (1981): Revolutionized music and pop culture by bringing music videos to mainstream TV History. Economic Challenges: The early 1980s recession and high unemployment were countered by aggressive monetary policy. Iraq Invades Kuwait (August 1990): Saddam Hussein’s forces quickly overran Kuwait, prompting a U.S.-led coalition to form. Coalition Forces Free Kuwait: The U.S. led a multinational force to liberate Kuwait, with major battles in the Persian Gulf and the use of advanced air power. End of the War (February 1991): The conflict ended with Iraq’s defeat and the restoration of Kuwait’s sovereignty, though the war was relatively short and decisive. Yes, my grandkids, gardening and EVs are my passion along with work, home theater, cooking, and wine. But I still like to stay up on the news, after all I have a wife to provide for and kids/grandkids I have to think about.
