WOW, just had an interesting chat with a coworker who is Maga and always made fun of me about my EV9. He was an ICE forever person last I talked with him. Today he showed up with a Cadillac Lyriq at our Seattle office. I asked him why the change? His response: I just got back from PTO where I visited my brother and he shocked me when he picked me up in a Rivian. He was an ICE forever person like me until he spent a week on a road trip for work with a coworker who only drove EVs and realized he was wrong about everything. Jason my coworker said this Lyriq is his first EV, will not be his last and he will never buy an ICE again. I asked him if he had installed a charger at home and he said not yet, was just starting to investigate it, but was not worried about having to have a home charger and he did understand that charging at public places was more expensive. This is when he then really surprised me with the following: David, for more than a century we have been conditioned to drive somewhere to get energy. With EVs, energy comes to where you already park. Hotels, Offices, Restaurants, Shopping centers, etc. Charging becomes part of your day instead of a separate trip. The mindset shift is one of the biggest changes in transportation since the invention of the gas station. Once I wrapped my head around it, I saw that there was no reason to not move to an EV, stop spending time on ICE maintenance schedules and just drive and enjoy the auto. Due to our Seattle office having a large charging area of L2 chargers, he pretty much charges at work or when he is out running errands. A huge change from what he was last time I talked to him about auto's to today and he gives his brother all the credit for showing him the way. Habits change with technology and charging up is based on the length of driving you need to do, not on getting a full tank of gas in his opinion.
