The 2013 Ford Fusion represented a complete ground-up redesign on Ford's CD4 platform, bringing Aston Martin-inspired styling and a dramatically wider range of powertrains. Buyers could choose from the 1.6L EcoBoost four-cylinder, 2.0L EcoBoost four-cylinder, 2.5L iVCT four-cylinder, 2.0L Hybrid, or 2.0L Energi plug-in hybrid, paired with a six-speed automatic or eCVT and available in FWD or AWD configurations. The Titanium topped the lineup with HID headlights, 18-inch alloys, leather seating, MyFord Touch, and Sony premium audio.

Today marks the 70th anniversary of the sinking of Italian Line's "Andrea Doria." She was en route to New York and would have been in the harbor early the following morning, so she was very close to her destination. This was the first post-war peace time transatlantic liner that Italy built and it transported both celebrities and people moving to the United States, albeit probably in different classes due to people's budgets. It was famous for its avant-garde interior design, creature comforts, dining, and extensive artwork. People loved the ship because, before jet travel became more popular and affordable and before other Italian ships were built, this ship essentially functioned as the bridge between Italy and the United States. There wasn't a storm or anything like that. It was a mid-sea collision where the SS "Stockholm" t-boned the Andrea Doria in heavy fog and tore open a few watertight compartments such that she would roll onto her side. You could say that there was some "luck" involved because it took the ship from eleven o'clock that night to ten o'clock the following morning to roll over and sink. Fifty-one people died: 46 on the Doria and 5 on the Stockholm. The captain stayed with his ship. Another big hero was the French liner "Ile de France," where the captain was hesitant to turn his outbound ship around because of the fog and the schedule. However, the captain did turn back and picked up over 800 Andrea Doria survivors and took them to New York. The Ile de France passengers and crew were reportedly very generous in sharing clothing, blankets, bedding, and food with the survivors picked up from the sinking Italian liner. The hits real close to home because I have made this crossing 4 times with my parents on this line's newer ships when I was a kid. My parents knew people who moved to the United States aboard the "Andrea Doria," including one couple who was on the voyage in which she sank.

Hello @ccap41 I have an 80amp circuit breaker with my 50amp charger, delivering 11kW to the auto steadily. Works great, certified and signed off by the city. Chargepoint manages the power to the auto, so the 80 is available to the charger, but it will not go past 50 unless the auto regulates the maximum input. This way any other EV I buy down the road can still get maximum power. Let me now put it in engineering speak: How an 80A Breaker Powers a 50A ChargePoint Unit When you have an 80A circuit breaker feeding a ChargePoint Home Flex unit rated for 50A output, the system works by matching the charger’s maximum draw to the breaker’s capacity while following NEC continuous-load rules. 1. Continuous-load rule (NEC Article 625) EV chargers are considered continuous loads because they operate near full current for long periods. The National Electrical Code requires that the branch-circuit overcurrent protective device (breaker) be rated at least 125% of the EVSE’s maximum load. For a 50A-rated charger: 50A × 1.25 = 62.5A → rounded up to the next standard size, which is 70A. However, in practice, many installations use 80A breakers for 50A chargers because: The 125% rule applies to the equipment’s rated current, not the breaker’s nominal rating. 80A is a common panel breaker size that safely handles 50A continuous load without nuisance tripping. It provides a margin for fault currents and transient surges. 2. How the 80A breaker “does” the work The breaker protects the conductors from overcurrent and short circuits. It disconnects the circuit if the current exceeds its rating, but at 80A, it will not trip during normal 50A charging. The actual charging current is limited by the charger’s output setting (e.g., 40A, 48A, or 50A) and the vehicle’s onboard charger. The breaker’s higher rating ensures the circuit can handle the continuous load without tripping, while still providing safety protection. 3. Wiring and installation considerations For a 50A charger, the conductors must be sized to carry the continuous load (e.g., 6 AWG copper for 50A at 60°C). The breaker must be in a panel with enough capacity and space for the dedicated 240V circuit. Hardwired installation is often used for 50A chargers because plug-in installations are limited to 40A or 50A circuits ChargePoint. In short: The 80A breaker is sized above the NEC minimum (62.5A) to safely protect the wiring and equipment while allowing the 50A ChargePoint unit to deliver its full 11kW output. The breaker doesn’t “limit” the charger’s power — it just ensures the circuit can handle it without tripping, while still providing overcurrent protection. This information is gathered from the National Electrical Code website.

Hey David! So I've gone over this and am a little confused as to how you're getting about 11kW of power from this setup. I'm sure it's my ignorance on something here as I'm certainly still learning, but my math would equate to either 13.4kW (more than the vehicle can handle - and I'd assume the vehicle would only allow it's own maximum) or 9.6kW. If it's a 70 amp circuit: 70 * 0.8 = 56amp 56 x 240v = 13.4kW However it's a 50amp charger so even at: 50 x 240v = 12kW Or 50amp circuit (which I don't think you have based on what you said above and your app output): 50 x 0.8 = 40amp 40 x 240v = 9.6kW Is the difference to 10.98kW just the what the vehicle is ACTUALLY accepting, even though it's rated for 11.5kW?

This is pretty much easy and convenient. I have not yet been to a place be it retail shopping or eating that did not offer L2 charging or better. Always seems to be a place to charge on the west coast. One thing I did notice that has changed is my local mall went from free L2 charging to 29 cent per kW charging. Probably due to the increase of folks having EVs here. The big noticeable thing is that the days of each vendor having their own app while still there is you want to sign up for discounted charging is nice, so far, I am seeing even from Rivian, EVgo, ChargePoint, EA, etc. everyone is pretty much supporting just tap and charge with a credit, debit or your cell phone.

While I agree with most of this, I'm not 100% on board with the bold portion. It can come to you, but even in the most populated EV areas of the country, they're still not literally everywhere. They also don't need to be literally everywhere. You have to look into hotels that offer charging, not every office job has charging available (if they do, I'm sure they don't have 100 chargers for most people to make the change), you have to find a select few restaurants that offer charging, and shopping centers are probably growing the quickest, but still not every shopping center has chargers. I'm sure out west most shopping centers have chargers, but do the ones that you need to run to have them? I know one can certainly publicly charger out west with ease. But is it easy or is it convenient? Those are two very different things.

It's a Nissan Leaf. Nissan did what they always tend to do and give it no extra power and just suspension tweaks along with some aesthetics. There is nothing special about this NISMO, unfortunately.

WOW, just had an interesting chat with a coworker who is Maga and always made fun of me about my EV9. He was an ICE forever person last I talked with him. Today he showed up with a Cadillac Lyriq at our Seattle office. I asked him why the change? His response: I just got back from PTO where I visited my brother and he shocked me when he picked me up in a Rivian. He was an ICE forever person like me until he spent a week on a road trip for work with a coworker who only drove EVs and realized he was wrong about everything. Jason my coworker said this Lyriq is his first EV, will not be his last and he will never buy an ICE again. I asked him if he had installed a charger at home and he said not yet, was just starting to investigate it, but was not worried about having to have a home charger and he did understand that charging at public places was more expensive. This is when he then really surprised me with the following: David, for more than a century we have been conditioned to drive somewhere to get energy. With EVs, energy comes to where you already park. Hotels, Offices, Restaurants, Shopping centers, etc. Charging becomes part of your day instead of a separate trip. The mindset shift is one of the biggest changes in transportation since the invention of the gas station. Once I wrapped my head around it, I saw that there was no reason to not move to an EV, stop spending time on ICE maintenance schedules and just drive and enjoy the auto. Due to our Seattle office having a large charging area of L2 chargers, he pretty much charges at work or when he is out running errands. A huge change from what he was last time I talked to him about auto's to today and he gives his brother all the credit for showing him the way. Habits change with technology and charging up is based on the length of driving you need to do, not on getting a full tank of gas in his opinion.
