I always find this odd.. Why can't they produce both transmissions that are capable of 317 lb-ft?

I remember the RX-8 had a similar situation where the auto had much less power(and/or TQ) than the 6spd.

autos have a hard time spinning to the ~9K rpm the rotary can do. lower rpm(all things equal otherwise)= less HP.

comment says the rev limiter was removed on this vid..... factory it came with a rev limiter, probably <8Krpm... so factory rating HP was lower.

also, the s2000 didn't have an auto tranny.  some praise needed for that, but woul dhave had some reliability issues most likely.... like an unlimited RX8 would have....probably.

It's fad... just like fender vents were a fad 10 years ago.

I don't think Fuel Cells are going to catch on, car companies have tried it for 10 years now, no one wants it.  Good to see them planning a lot of EV's, I don't think the Bolt's shape or a Cadillac wagon is the way to go, but if they build sedans and crossovers those will sell.

fuel cells, "HCCI"... we'll see about the 2nd from Mazda, hopefully "soon" in production(2019 model)

Riv, yeah, if the "powertrain" can be modular, just pull it out if it's a flop and and change it to the other version...

But you're not in a downsized turbo that this article is talking about. If Mazda did a 180hp turbo 1.6 liter.... you'd probably get different results.

yeah. if they got the 100HP/L they get in the CX-9, be interesting if they did that to the 1.5L to compare with the 2.0L, but that'll probably never happen.
EPA should really just post numbers at several MPH increments and then a "city" cycle and agressive Highway driving cycle.

Ohio has cheap insurance affordable housing, and lots of overcast days, there are trade offs.

    Isn't that special....!

People complain about everything even when it is for the better.

insurance... mine dropped ~33% from IL...

Interesting to see the 400 v8 2bbl at the bottom of the fourth paragraph on the bottom. At least this confirms that our Olds was not a freak but actually part of an available package.

I was thinking of noting my bolded in your quote...  I had never before seen "barrels" called out differently than bbl's

    1) Hate to see the V6 go. Honda had one of the best ones.

    2) Good to see they are going to still offer a manual.

    3) Even better to see the CVT is not spreading.

    4) The 10AT is overkill, though.

    5) I wonder what this means for Acura?

#4, according tho the ratios on honda's website, the ratio spread is 6.04.  i'd guess they're aiming at more than 7:1... like GM and ford.. and others...will help MPG and smoothness that a 4cyl may lack compared to the v-6. just sayin.

Without delving into politics any further than we need to, we pretty much have a thirteen year old boy in a mans body in the white house, and another 13 year old boy in a man's body in leadership in North Korea. We have seemed hell bent on marginalizing and invading Iran for a decade or more, and the middle east is less stable every day. Putin is a wild card. Both parties pretty much are owned by the corporate state. We have very little in the terms of a press or journalism in this country that is connected to reality in any way. The average American voter is either as dumb as a box of tree stumps or a bar of soap, given the day of the week. We have lots of nukes, as do lots of other countries.

Maybe the Voluntary Human Extinction movement (a real thing, google it) isn't so voluntary...

gah, i was just talking about the star trek timeline... but then comes warp tech.. in comes vulkans, then peace and expansion till... klingons, romulans, cardasians, the borg...

  10. just personal experience..

got a 5Y loan on my mazda when i bought it...

I refi'd almost a year later to 66m and 1.76% Less.  Over the past 2 years I had made 5 months ahead payments (was on track to pay it of in the original loan time)... this was good cause of my job loss, but planning to start one next week at more than 2x the pay i had been making.
