just the 2.5L will be offered in the US till the 2.0-X comes.
2.5L slightly upgraded to 188hp&ft-lbs. found this info elsewhere... i'l try to find it

just another probable point that the EPA cycle doesn't do a good job of showing real world gas use.
and another that any company can claim the cycles aren't representative.

I'll be the oddball here and say that for a 2-seater toy I would get a Sky Red-Line. 260 HP would be plenty for me and I don't autocross.
I liked how the sky looked more than the solstice. and compared to the miata.... driving dynamics would play a part in that decision

Mazda is also way down. One wonders how long they will hang on as an independent-shades of Studebaker and Packard here.
perhaps, but they have a turbo cx-5 coming, and the skyactiv-x engine around the corner. rumor has it the 3 and the cx-3 will get the 2.0 x. it will be interesting what the market will do with these products...when they hit lots.

True Robust, but one has to wonder life of the engine when your base is a 2.4L 4 banger and you downgrade to a 1.3L turbo. I question the long life of the engine compared to short term power but lack of a long life.
Disposable 1.3 ever 100,000 miles? 🤷♂️
it'll be a steal with how efficient it is. /s

mr2 with the 2L that has ~160hp. coo!

i miss dwight's topics like this.

just the powertrain, if upgraded to the same as the corolla, would be a huge upgrade as far as driving and efficiency.

My fault, the way I said it came out wrong and unclear. Trump is arguing with China to get them to stop this requirement. That's what I agree with him on.... not the domestic requirements he is doing here.
ah, that makes it clear. i don't understand how this would work since it's directed at auto manufacturers and not directly at china, or it's exports, but we do keep hearing that Chinese brands want to export to here, sometime in the near future.

being a controlled economy, they can slowly increase the price of gasoline. take the profits and use them to subsidize electric charging station installations.
do you mean through direct taxes, indirect taxes or that their refineries are state owned?
not that i agree with subsidizing these things, but i generally think that as wealth increases and production and tech ramps up with better and more batteries, EV's have to get more prevalent.

any/everything is in the national security interest. /s
is the just a tit for tat policy @Drew Dowdell? is that why you support this?

i wonder if the mx-5 sales were affected by the news of the '19's hp increase.
-
but how much RGB will it come with?!😅

It's one of the flat out biggest reasons I've seen...this coming from someone who owns a few Cavaliers and a Cobalt...
They are easily about almost a third too much right now...that same hatch should still be well under 25k.....
Between the economy and gas prices, I feel like I am changing my choice of car daily....
The Nox and Escapr are the easy choices....but one can't go wrong with a Cruze hatch either.....
more so with the 'nox diesel.
it'll be interesting if mazda puts the x engine in the CX-3 soon. 29 city / 34 highway now , but add ~25% makes it ~35/43 This will be why the small CUV/Crossovers(?) may continue to dominate even in $3.50+ gas prices

Totally makes sense, right now many feel comfortable in their job and security and are willing to give up MPG for room, comfort and space.
Yet as the BP study seems to show, demand is increasing big all around the world and as such prices are rising across the board. I have to wonder if we have not seen the final days of low gas prices with the next wave of increases in gas to be permanent. 🤔
would be interesting to see some $/mile for vehicle categories, brands, industry average over, idk, quarterly timescale. it feels like the last 10 years big jumps have happened in all but the biggest SUV/truck groups.

I nearly was run over by a Pruis today, but I was paying attention and she wasn't.... she was also running a red light.
What an insulting way to go that would be....

Yeah, I almost backed into a jogger in black at end of my driveway once at 5am...
i nearly hit one a few months ago on a road barely lit and no side walk... admittedly i was also a tad distracted.
-
just gonna add night joggers and such. sometimes its more the pedestrian being visible before having to swerve/slam on the brakes.

nice OCN,
depending on weight and gearing, that might make it kinda sporty with the manual.
will the next ~5years get us to a new "golden age of engines"?

Good idea of power output, 152hp.
Thats enough as my Focus has 160 but me personally would like a middle ground to the hot hatches for a nice daily that can get out of its own way a little better. I’d like numbers like what Ford’s 1.5t put out in the 180hp/200tq range.
are you exited for the mazda SPCCI engine?!
-
i skimmed it. decent diet it went on.
what are active roll bars?

I'd drive one of those based on looks and interior..
137hp for the outgoing model and if this is more, I'd guess it would be a marginal gain so like 145hp or so. That'd matched to a CVT would be what would keep me out of it more than anything else.
power handling of the CVT is unknown, right?
best way to estimate it would be base it off the camry's engine(s), let's average the eco and "normal engine" performance to =~190HP from a 2.5L. a 2.0L could produce more like 152HP. not far off.
/remindme when real specs for it are released.
interior does look class competitive. mostly simple/straight forward. i wonder what the base will look like.
exterior looks euro/scion/camry derived... mostly on the ugly side.
this makes me glad the sedan market is shrinking.
-
why not return to it's roots and use the new VC turbo engine and make another...260(ish)Z?

Finally it gets the turbo 2.5, sadly it won't offer a manual like the Accord Sport with it's 2.0 turbo. Still enough to make the future list thouh.
with high grade gas, make the same power(~1%) but mazda has like ~15% more torques. the 6 is slightly lighter for the '17 6 to the '18 accord.
The tuning and transmission will be the deciding factors for FAST!- 1
