GeigerCars Christmas Edition HUMMER H2 Not to say that the GeigerCars' HUMMERs aren't ridiculous. They certainly are. But some of its specials have a certain kind of charm, and the latest fun creation is a perfect example. Behold the GeigerCars Christmas Edition HUMMER H2. Created for a German television program, the machine sports the seemingly-requisite Lambo doors, is finished in bright red, and has a custom winter scene featuring the Star of Bethlehem airbrushed on its newly-panelized side (Geiger welded steel covers over the rear windows). In addition to all that, the truck's full profile is decked out in lights, Christmas-style. And here we thought people got carried away just lighting up their homes... Autoblog

Honda Light Trucks May Gain V6 Diesel In an interview with Automotive News, Honda's CEO, Takeo Fukui said that the automaker's newly developed diesel technology will find its way into their light truck offerings of the future. The vehicles identified by Fukui as being the likely recipients of a V6 diesel are the Ridgeline pickup, Pilot SUV and Odyssey minivan, with Acura's MDX also being a candidate for oil-burning power. The V6 engine is currently under development and will likely debut sometime after Honda introduces their 2.2-liter diesel in 2009. Autoblog

Lexus Gets "F"-ed 'F,' as it turns out, stands for 'fast,' and will grace the trunk lid of Lexus vehicles that seek to do battle amidst the AMGs and Ms of the world. The first F-inagled Lexus to make its debut will be a hotted-up version of the IS sedan, equipped with a 5-liter V8. What was originally assumed to be called the IS500, the newly dubbed IS-F will come with a revised version of the V8 that resides in the LS600h L and will produce upwards of 425 HP. Pricing is expected to come in around $50k, and is aimed squarely at the upcoming M3. Other models expected to get the 'F' treatment include the GS sedan and a coupe version of the IS. Autoblog

Car & Driver 10 Best for 2007 Every year the entire Car and Driver staff gathers at a rural site about 30 miles west of our home office in Ann Arbor, Michigan for a week of evaluating all the new cars and, hopefully, avoiding cops. We judge the cars in three general areas: First, how well the car performs its intended functions. We expect sports cars to be fast and exhilarating, while we presume a family sedan will be practical. Second, we show a preference for the more engaging cars in each category; be it better driving manners, a double-take-inducing look, or a powerful engine. Finally, we are suckers for a good deal, so an inexpensive car that’s fast, fun, and practical will certainly rise to the top of our list. The invite list works as follows: Last year’s winners are automatically invited back, as well as other all-new or significantly upgraded machinery for 2007 — each car gets only one shot at making our 10Best list, but many stay on the list for years. This year, all cars had to have a base price no higher than $71,000, which is 2.5 times the average new-vehicle transaction price as of August 2006. Eligible cars must be on-sale no later than January of 2007, and the manufacturer must, of course, deliver an example for our evaluations. The winners: BMW 3-series Chevrolet Corvette Chrysler 300 Honda Accord Honda Fit Infiniti G35 Mazda MX-5 Mazda Mazdaspeed3 Porsche Boxster and Cayman Volkswagen GTI Car and Driver

Edmunds Evaluation: 2006 Sport Compact Comparison 1st: 2007 Mazdaspeed3 2nd: 2006 Subaru WRX TR 3rd: 2006 Honda Civic Si 4th: 2006 Mini Cooper S 5th: 2006 VW GTI 6th: 2006 Chevy Cobalt SS S/C Ask five different people what defines a sport compact car and you'll get five different answers. Look it up on Wikipedia, the everyman's encyclopedia known for its everyman definitions and you get this: "a high-performance version of a compact car...often compromising cargo space, seating, gas mileage, drivability and reliability." Here's the three-word definition we like: small, sporting, inexpensive. And because these cars are frequently the only transportation their owners have, reality says we should add a fourth: practical. This test is performed in that spirit. That is, find the best small, sporting, inexpensive and practical car sold in the U.S. today. We narrowed the field to six that we feel are genuine contenders: the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged, 2006 Honda Civic Si, 2007 Mazda Mazdaspeed 3, 2006 Mini Cooper S, 2006 Subaru WRX and 2006 Volkswagen GTI. The first generation (B13) certainly did (still does). The one that followed (B14) was/is not nearly as respected and the previous generation (B15) garnered somewhat more respect preformance-wise than the B14 but some still think the B13 is better in some dynamic respects. The 1991-1994 B13 SE-R was a very competitive sport compact in its day (140hp, LSD, fully independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes). Sadly, many have been neglected over the years.

Really? Granted, I've never seen one in person but I thought Mitsubishi finally had a competitive product that wasn't an Evo. -
You know, if you wonder why people get pissed at you, this is a great example.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I thought Hyundai's big plan was to increase fleet sales? Now they're backing off of that? And I suppose their Elantra strike explanation for the sales fall would hold water if: -They were selling every Elantra on dealer lots. -The Sonata didn't nosedive in sales. -The Azera didn't slip a bit either.
