    Thank you for the response.

I want to reinstall them into the computers, especially the "newer" one.  The old one has been a real champ.

The reason for not leaving them in the desktop is that the basic tower might have to be transported ... and not by me.  That means it will be out of my possession for a while.  Since the HDs would be traveling with me, they'll have to get scanned through airport security a time or two.  I'm guessing that shouldn't mess with the data.

I've already backed up the C drive on several large 1 TB portable hard drives.  I don't want to touch the basic functions and files on the computers since I don't know how that all works.  I stay away from the drives and files I am not familiar with.

I tend to donate other things to charity.   I did give the Regal I once owned to charity.   A good friend told me that, about a month or two later, he saw it being driven around the city by its new owner and we had a good laugh.

This is what I want to do.  I'm just trying to figure out if the guy or gal at Office Depot can size a case based on looking up the unit and the HD in it.  Any ideas on that part?  Or should I do that and approximate the size and weight of the part to get the cases?

I am not aware of travel cases for internal drives. Usually you have the drive and once you have made sure you own static electricity is discharged on your body, open the computer and unplug the power cable and data cable to the HD. Then you unscrew the screws holding the drive in. Put the drive into an Anti-Static bag and then usually into a box that has foam padding on all sides to protect the drive and then tape it up to close it.

With both drives in their proper storage bags, you can then have both drives in between foam insulation for handling any dropping of the box, etc. Pack them in a box and tape shut, should then easily handle going through your carry on or checked in luggage.

To ship a hard drive, you need to:

    1. Secure the hard drive in its original packaging or anti-static bag.
    2. If you don't have an anti-static bag, place the drive into a zipped freezer bag to prevent any moisture getting into the drive during transit.
    3. Sandwich the drive between foam or wrap it in bubble wrap to absorb any minor shocks.
    4. Put the hard drive in a padded shipping box.
    5. Close and seal the box.
    6. Label your package.

Amazon.com : hard drive shipping box

This is pretty much all you need.

I'm wondering about a lot of things related to this.  I am sure that, sadly, the passengers inside were jolted.  This is way different from a rough landing.

Why was it even necessary to do it?  What was going on at the airport property at that time?

How does one even pull this off?  I've seen some vids of where they barely touch and then go off again, but this one looks way more complicated.

Either a co-pilot first time landing or something truly went wrong on the plane.

I can see electric motors going the same route as ICE, getting bigger/more powerful but not as huge as the big block caddy days.

    This was on my homepage.

This is possibly the weirdest go-around I've seen on video.  It was Lufthansa's big bird (latest version) at LAX.  (Leave the sound on)

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/moment-lufthansa-plane-s-touch-and-go-landing-caught-on-live-stream/vi-AA1nysOo?ocid=socialshare

I was on one major go-around about 20 years and, it too, was on an older Lufthansa 747 going from Munich to SFO to connect up to Portland.

He was still some 200 feet off the ground when he announced it, the engines started purring strongly, the plane started climbing, and the go around from my window showed San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, then on down south next to Stanford, and then back up over San Francisco Bay to land.

WOW, that is crazy, wonder what happened the first time as that was a hard bounce. Need a full inspection on that plane after that hit.

Tech help needed prior to going in to Office Depot or other store to inquire ... or conducting research and spinning my wheels:

I have 2 HP Pavilion desktops ... one is circa 2019 and the other is circa 2009, and it still works.  They are boxed up.

    Questions:

    1.  If I needed to get hard drive carrying cases, how does one go about sizing the one they should buy?

    2. I have never seen one before, but I'm assuming the construction of the case is thick and tough enough to protect the hard drive, yes?

    3.  How much do hard drives in typical household HP Pavilions weigh and are they easy to remove so they can be transported?

    THANK YOU!

Usually one does not pull out a desktop HD to transport it but packs and moves the whole desktop computer.

If you are wanting to remove the HD to transport it, you need to ensure it is in an Anti-static bag to prevent electrical discharge that can scramble the data in worse case scenario.

Depending on size HD can weight from just a couple of OZ to 1lb.

Question for you, are you just thinking of putting these HD into a new computer or just taking them over separate from the existing desktop system and installing them back in again? If your just thinking of transporting the desktop I would recommend keeping the drive in the desktop and packing the whole unit securely in a box with packing material for protection. If your wanting the data on the drives, I would recommend buying a proper USB drive, copy all the data off the drives and then you can wipe the drives and donate the computers to Goodwill for a tax write off.

I don't plan on gardening anytime soon. We need to finish other things before I'd have a permanent spot for a garden, but I would like a small garden in the future. We consume enough various peppers, onions, and zucchinis that I think it would be pretty cool to grow them myself.

Flavor is amazing over bland store bought veggies.

Speaking of growing trees in buckets/pots, did you over-research what type of potting soil/media to use? I think I'm going down a wormhole of too much information and overthinking.

What did you end up using?

My wife gets starter trees for landscaping, and we use 5-gallon plant buckets that have the holes already, but you could use a normal 5-gallon bucket and drill some holes and put it in a planter plate to hold water to help with feeding.

We always just use miracle grow soil and the trees are doing really well. We have a bunch of Leyland Cypress trees to be planted once I finish the yard retaining wall and new fence.

I didn't realize how bad my passenger side headlight had gotten. It looked horrible so I did a little research on the "headlight restoration" kids. I ended up on this Cerakote one and it seemed to work pretty dang well. It did take some patients and elbow grease to net good results, but it seems to have worked.

I did both headlights but the passenger side was so much worse, so I didn't even bother taking pictures of the driver side.

Again, not sure why the site rotates them, but whenever I rotate them on my computer, they still manage to change directions upon uploading.

Once you change the rotation, your saving it correct? If you rotate it and then post it, the original image is still being used with it in the wrong rotation. Usually you have to save it as a new image so capture the new rotation change.

I agree that it is a pain in the butt when a phone camera does this.

Great Job, cleaning the lenses are never easy and you did a great job.

I am currently detailing my SS, will post pictures once I am done, but getting it cleaned inside and out, so started yesterday and almost done with the inside, still have the outside waxing to do.

    Thank you!

Yeah, as much as I love the vehicle, I REALLY tried to avoid Land Rover because...of their well-known UNreliability.  Well, we have a 100,000-mile (unlimited years) warranty, so we should at least have that peace of mind. I know they're not supposed to be the most reliable, but I don't really hear of people getting stranded. It's usually "just" lights going off saying something needs fixed. Hopefully that is just the case.

Oh, oh I know! I REALLY tried pushing ANY other brand, because reliability was our G issue.

It absolutely rides better than the G. Almost anything rides better than a vehicle with two solid axels though, hahaha. My wife loved her G though. She was so used to it that she really didn't notice how shtty it rode. Anytime we'd drive something else she'd say that she liked it but she still liked her G and that she still thought that drove just fine.. I had to tell her that she was just conditioned to like to because it really drove like @ss.

Yes, 100,000 mile warranty with unlimited years. It actually seemed like a "bargain" at $4340. That's like one repair and I'm sure it'll be used plenty, unfortunately.

As much as I tried to get her into either an Aviator or SQ7, a little thing in the back of my head said it's okay because when those broke, it would be my fault, hahaha. Now when this breaks, I'll give her the ole "I told ya so".

WOW, Never heard of a 100,000 miles unlimited years warranty, that is a great deal.

Agree that the $4340 will pay for itself on the first major repair. It did with my SS as I paid according to the paperwork $1993 for a GM backed 3yr/36,000-mile warranty and when in the first six months the cooling line cracked and contaminated the transmission and cooling system, the Cheverolet dealership had it for 4 months as they awaited the new corvette transmission and cooling system and the paperwork, I have shows that the charge back to GM warranty was almost $12K dollars plus the Tahoe loaner they put me into which was new and I put a ton of miles on while I had it.

I hope you never have to use it and it is just peace of mind for you as I would hate to have the wife and kids get stranded anywhere.

Awesome looking ride, wishing you all the best on it.

Welp, we finally got rid of my wife's G55 AMG. I've talked about it here a few times but there was something inherently wrong with it. It had left her stranded at least 5 times and us once. Luckily everything was covered under an extended warranty, so it was minimal out of picket and the loaners were covered or just given to us via a couple different Merc dealerships. Anyway, after getting stranded once since we've had our lil baby, my wife finally had enough of it. I tried convincing her a year or two ago when the market was nuts to bail on it and just make a bunch off of it. That didn't happen, hahaha.

When we got her G55 back about a month ago, we were looking for a replacement. She's been spoiled and had to have something of a luxury brand. She never said this but anything she'd look at had a luxury brand...of course.. She was stuck on the shape of the SUV and she hates how everything modern is bubbly or rounded. There's nothing "old school boxy" that's mainstream, really. I had her look at X5, GLE, Aviators, Q7 anything in that range. I ALMOST had her into an SQ7. We test drove one but there just weren't anything around us in the price and miles we were looking for. She didn't like the exterior of an X5, GLE, or GV80. @David She's a part of the "electric vehicles just aren't there yet" crew.

Well, after a lot of looking and she was getting more and more anxious about the lack of faith in her vehicle, we came across a 2020 Range Rover Sport SVR that she fell in love with and it was fairly local. Typically, we have no issue driving up to 5hrs one way for a vehicle we find for the right price. She had zero faith in doing that with her G55 at this point. So the range and available vehicles decreased by soooo much. Normally we'd have Chicago, Indianapolis, Memphis, Kansas City, Louisville as potential places to buy from.

2020 13,550 miles. SVR = 575hp, s/c 5.0 V8. All of the auto lane keep stuff, auto braking stuff, head-up display, heated cooled front AND rear seats, 4 zone climate control, massive sunroof (that we don't care about), active exhaust (that we LOVE - exhaust note was actually high on her priority list - her list was...confusing, to say the least). Apple CarPlay, all sorts of off-road goodies that we will never use, hahaha, air suspension,

I was waaaaay off of another all-black vehicles but, again, that was on her list. I hate the black maintenance and just how quickly it looks dirty/bad.

I'm pretty sure I was all over the place with my little story but feel free to ask about any detail I probably skipped over, forgot, or jumped around and made confusing.

  11. Life Happens, I was always planning to convert my 1994 Suburban to electric and drive it.

Grandkids came last year via my son's marriage, great kids and now I have a new Grandson.

As such, time to simplify my life. Sold my suburban and said goodbye over the weekend. Some one else can enjoy the custom 402 V8 making 505hp/551 lb-ft of torque.

    Newest Grandson

  13. Saw my first Cyber Truck today in the wild, WOW, What an Ugly Turd of a so called truck. Blind Spots bigger than California. Pretty much a true love or hate of the Tesla truck for sure. Funny thing is it had a California license plate. Made me wonder, did they move up here or a PTO trip to the PNW. Either way, yes it grabs heads as people look.

The interior is very good and competitive in its market segment.  I really like it.  Good thing that GM replaced the 3.6 with a turbo 4, since the latter should be more reliable.

The new Enclave could do without the big mouth bass type grill.  It looks like it belongs on a RAV4 or some other Toyota.  As for the exterior, SAD.  Buick needs to go back to the 1st generation Enclave and make it curvy and Buick again.  I could mistake this version of an Enclave for an Acadia or Traverse.

Did I miss something that the 3.6L V6 is less reliable than the Newer Turbo 4?
