  1. Welcome RuthMurray, Glad to have you join us, looking forward to hearing about your current and past rides as well as passions for what you like in the auto industry. Look forward to your responses to our various discussions.
  2. CNBC is reporting an interview with Volvo CTO who has stated, NO FUTURE LONG-TERM for ICE auto's. As such, they have stated the following: Online Only sales model working with Volvo pickup locations. People can still go to a Volvo location to test drive and buy if they do not want to order online from volvocars.com Location sales associates will help you place an order online. Orders placed will then be delivered to the pickup locations from a regional holding area. Demonstrator auto's will be at the global Volvo locations. Hybrids are a bridging technology and will only be around till 2030 2030 moving forward will be pure EV only for global product line Due to competition, online ordering will lower costs, better transparency, stronger customer loyalty, faster purchase response for the auto you want. Volvo says it will be 'fully electric' by 2030 and move car sales online (msn.com)
  3. I think Fisker is hurting for money as to why they abandon their Solid State battery. Without deep pockets, you cannot deliver and we already are aware that both Toyota and gm are planning to show off their solid state batteries this year in concept auto's. Toyota ready to unveil solid-state battery EV in 2021 | Autoblog Plenty of write up on the benefits and I still think we will see at the high end Solid state batteries by the later half of 2020's Solid State going into production in luxury EVs. Solid-state batteries to change the game for electric vehicles - TechHQ The future of electric vehicles is powered by solid-state batteries (techwireasia.com) The Eternal Promise of Solid-State Batteries (autoweek.com) Big difference in size of a traditional Li-Ion battery and Solid state of the same power.
  4. MEH, Sounds like a BMW lover driving these rather than the common women and men that do. I will disagree with the vague steering and body leans. The CUV is solid in driving and is not a race auto, performance auto, etc. It serves well for those that want a mid level luxury auto that makes driving a relaxing thing. My sister lives out of her Envision as an in home wound care nurse. She loves the way to handles and drives and did not like the harsh racer type of response the RDX/MDX gives. Again, that is personal opinion on how they feel the auto drives and others love it. The second and half difference to 60 is nothing now a days. Most people are not constantly hard throttle to 60 and even then your figure is way off from other reviews that constantly seem to say 6.4, 6.5 seconds to 60. https://www.carindigo.com/buick/envision/0to60 https://autotk.com/0-60-times/buick/envision/ https://autofiles.com/0-60-times/buick/envision/ Buick Envision 0-60 Times and Quarter Mile (zero60times.com) So those are just a few of the ones covering 2021 and my sisters 2017 is stated as 7 seconds with a 15 second quarter mile. Buick 0-60 Times & Buick Quarter Mile Times | Buick Regal, Century, Enclave, Riviera & LaCrosse 0 to 60 stats! (zeroto60times.com) Over all, I have to say for the bulk of people out there, the speed is fast enough as is the handling. If you want sporty more performance driving, then there is the RDX/MDX if you want more luxury you have the Envision. Something for everyone. I would agree with what they say. My sister looked forward to driving her Envision every day as a relaxing drive to her patients compared to her Mazda she used to own that made her body feel tired. I think Buick hit the Refined Driving Experience as when you drive it, it is very relaxing and enjoyable and yet push the accelerator and it does move. Pay attention and you can pick up the slight Turbo delay, but over all, the auto delivers on response.
  5. In 2017, we first heard of a change with GMC moving to Carbon Fiber beds that would outperform the Ford Aluminum bed or the high strength steel that RAM and gm has been using. GM to use carbon fiber in redesigned pickup beds (autonews.com) In 2019 We were introduced to CarbonPro beds and the news media seemed to be very excited. GM Could Expand Carbon Fiber Use Beyond Trucks | GM Authority GM increases use of carbon fiber for durability (autonews.com) GMC has this official site on their web site. Sierra CarbonPro Bed: Innovation & Durability | GMC Life Been searching to see if this will be used in the Hummer, but not found anything yet. Makes sense to use it to reduce weight. @balthazar I hate to make assumptions, but was wondering did you upgrade to this bed or is your new truck going to have the standard high strength steel bed?
  6. I do wonder how much of the existing use of various metals can be replaced by using lite weight high strength plastics / carbon fiber. That would be interesting to know the impact of those materials versus the pit mines. I know BMW has one of the worlds largest Carbon Fiber manufacturing plants in Moses Lake Washington as they off set their use in the i series auto's by selling spools of the fiber to Boeing for the Dream liner planes. Supposedly that is one of their greenest plants for BMW. BMW Group and SGL Group to triple production capacities at Moses Lake carbon fiber plant From 2014. BMW plans big expansion of Moses Lake carbon-fiber plant | The Spokesman-Review From 2014 local paper. Plant has been constantly growing as they now also sell the spools of Carbon Fiber to other auto companies.
  7. Seems more V's are coming to Cadillac, but not Blackwing so as to not dilute the name as being the top performance auto. Seems the Supercharged V8 in the CT5-V Blackwing could become the Escalade V edition which makes sense for a 3 ton auto with a .6G holding. 8. 9. Some good reading as it rights many wrongs on the attack by the ICE side on EVs. Study Against EVs Backed By Legacy Automakers Is Debunked In Epic Way (insideevs.com) Electric Cars Need Way Less Raw Materials Than ICE Vehicles (insideevs.com) After reading both stories and then following the links to see what all is in the reports used for these stories, EV is the right way to go for Humanity.
  10. Good review and one very important point, unless you are new the Newest fast charging stations, getting an 18 min recharge of the battery to 80% is going to be hard due to the limited 800V fast chargers. gm says they are going to invest to increase the number of chargers, but I think all OEMs are going to have to think about investing in the charging networks if they want high speedy charging like that.
  11. 1949 Mercury in Candy Apple Red is just sexy as all get out!
  12. Found this, I put on CC with English so I could read what they had to say about this Ioniq 5 that is out and about in Korea.

  15. Petaluma City California in 2019 put a moratorium on new gas stations. Now in 2021, the city has now made it permanent, a ban on all new gas stations. The focus is on Charging stations and moving to an EV auto city. Petaluma City Council moves to ban new gas stations (petaluma360.com)
  16. @ykX Thanks for the reply, very glad your wife love it. Interior space is very personal as the RDX and MDX, interior space for large people sucks. If I sit in the front, no one can sit behind me where they can in the Buick. I also find the interface of the Buick dash much more to my liking than the crazy button overkill mess of the Acura. I have never driven the Acura AWD in snow or heavy water, but I have the Buick and it handles very well. So while engine power is different as you quoted the base to mid level, my sister has a Premium II Envision so 252HP / 260 ft-lbs of torque and it does move very well. I will say that the Buick being 300lbs heavier than the RDX shows gm has room to remove weight. 4000 versus 3700 lbs. Both seem to be very capable CUVs, seem to run as very reliable auto's. So I think both since style is a personal matter works well for customers in the market. Reviews posted by actual buyers seems to bear this out compared to the magazine reviews which I do question allot. I saw a battle between two people posting on Edmunds the love hate relationship of the interior dash. I agree with you that I think the Envision looks better than the Acura, but for those that have had positive reliable experiences, I cannot blame a person for sticking with one over another product. Thank you for posting your info and your personal experience, always good to read what others experience as I think it is more valid than the magazine reviews.
  17. What proof do you have that GM produced Buicks are not as good as US built Honda products? The Buick Envision is a pretty damn nice auto and been very reliable for my sister. I have not see the problems on her Envision compared to my neighbors accord that seems to always be in the shop. Could it be the lack of care by us labor?
  18. So then would the Clear Coat not protect the Matt from smearing? ? So you can rest while charging. The Hyundai press release clearly wants you in a relaxing reclining chair while you recharge on the road.
  19. Cruella
  20. Cool, I honestly always wondered how you protected the pain job and how it handled compared to a traditional gloss clear coat paintjob. Do they make a protection type wax for Matt paintjobs? How does one go about protecting it as I honestly am seeing more and more on the road, so was wondering. Right now I love a polished clear coat paint job.
  21. Then for sure you would want to buy white so a solid base color to cover up with a nice Green.

  23. OK, was checking out the Photo's on their photo site: Hyundai IONIQ 5 Redefines Electric Mobility Lifestyle - Hyundai Newsroom Sadly, they clarify that North America will only get 7 color options while Europe gets the full 9 and Korea will only get 4 color options, but Korea and Europe get the one I want, Mystic-Olive green Pearl. Why do they not think the US would want a green colored EV? ? Korea does get an extra interior color combo of Terra Brown/Mud Grey. Sounds like a warm earthy tone interior. Found the Mystic-Olive Green Pearl color on the Korea web site. I like it! Great color for an EV.
  24. In rereading the Hyundai press release for the Ioniq5, the take away they want you to understand is at the start of this press release and is as follows: IONIQ 5 all-electric, midsize CUV debuted today in a virtual world premiere event Design explores new experiences only possible with dedicated BEV platform …Evokes the daring attitude of Hyundai Pony, the company’s first production car, highlighting 45-year journey of Hyundai design and looking ahead to the future …Exterior achieves unique proportions on a 3,000-mm wheelbase emphasizing EV specific typology .…Interior raises bar of comfort and usability with flat floor and Universal Island Reflects commitment to sustainability by utilizing eco-friendly materials and nature-inspired colors in many touchpoints Delivers powerful performance and ultra-fast 400 V and 800 V multi-charging Provides Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function, which can turn the vehicle into a charger on wheels IONIQ 5 - Hyundai Newsroom Over all I am very excited to see this auto get here and test fit my Shrek size frame in the EV. While they do not infer if there is extra charges, I am excited to see the following in the release: Customers can choose from nine exterior colors, including five nature-inspired hues exclusive to IONIQ 5. The interior has three color options. Hopefully the 3 interior color options will be more than black, black and white and grey. I think auto companies need to expand beyond the blah interiors we currently have. I hope this EV is available in Green. This is one area I am just befuddled by as gm has released the colors for the Hummer and Green is NOT one of the choices.
