  1. You and your significant other NEED to get away...and soon! That's exactly what WE needed to do and did. But our choice of getaway was an almost kitchy Pocono resort...any less red paint would have been tacky, but as it turns out this much made it fun! The place is called Paradise Stream and it's a couple's all-inclusive resort. Check out our little getaway to the Poconos in the latest issue of Automotive Traveler. We had a great time and you will too! http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/3103 What do you think of it?
  2. How many Jaguar X-Types do you see? I seem to pass three or four everytime I leave the house!
  3. The problem with these old ads is that the EPA has changed the formula for fuel economy TWICE since then. This underpowered little truck would be rated around 22/28 today.
  4. I'm far from the first to get the keys to a Chrysler 200. I also don't think I'm the first to be pleasantly surprised at this car. Sure, it's not the greatest mid-sized car on the market today but it's amazing the kind of lemonade they made out of the lemon rinds that was the last generation Chrysler Sebring sedan. I liked the car. I liked its styling. I liked the interior. I liked how it drove. Did I say it's so much better than the Sebring? http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/3082
  5. Cheesy? C'mon! The Marzal is wonderful...the Bravo's pretty nice...I'm not really sure what to say about the Athon...but the other two are really great!
  6. In May, Bertone is unloading a handful of their one-of-a-kind concepts including three Lamborghini concepts from the 1967 Marzal (my favorite), 1974 Bravo, and the 1980 Athon. They've never been owned by anyone other than Bertone so sign up now to get in on the auction. All I ask in exchange for this information is a ride in your new car! http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/3060
  7. I'm not so sure about that...somewhere I read that the GMC Motorhomes may have been the only such vehicle built by a Big 3 company.
  8. GMC's first Front-Driver Back in 1973, GMC launched its first front-wheel drive model. Thoughout GM's history, they've launched so many radical vehicles from the "copper-cooled" Chevrolet of the 1920s to the electric and steam-powered prototypes of the 1960s, but this one is one of the most radical...and, oddly enough, one of the most mainstream. And it was a movie star...check it out and give your thoughts! http://automotivetra...r.com/jump/3031
  9. I, too, was not immediately taken in by Mr Davis and his work. His picture just always seemed to be in the magazines I read. I guess it was when we were introduced that I realized I was judging his book by his cover. When we spoke, he was very nice to me and provided excellent insight from his 50+ years of experience. I'm glad to have a signed copy of his book and I don't expect his like to be repeated anytime soon.
  10. In less than one year, we've lost David E and Jerry Flint....add in the losses of Beverly Rae Kimes, Fred Roe, Stanley Stephenson, and Taylor Vinson...the worlds of automotive journalists and automotive historians are noticably less well stocked. If you don't know who they are (I assume you know the first two names), look them up and start reading. http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/2994 "Freedom and Whiskey!"
  11. No misinterpretation there...just a brain fart on my end where I couldn't come up with the actual term I wanted to express. You are among the minority who actually know the history...and I know you're not alone on wanting to know more about the specific featured vehicles. Unfortunately, I didn't have much information to go on for the specific cars. You gotta made do with what you've got...and still entertain and inform.
  12. Yes, and the name first appeared on the 1950 model. But it's the 1957 that people remember most...it's the "legendary" version. In any case, the '58 is no '57...agreed? Maybe because it's a DeSoto and not one of the longer-lived names? I'm a big fan of the early 1960s Imperials...first car I fell in love with was a '62...I know, I've got issues. There are better writers who have covered the Imperial/DeSoto territory in more depth elsewhere. I'd love to write something more...if only I could add something new to the story.
  13. 1957 was a great year for cars...Ford outsold Chevrolet, Chevrolet introduced its legendary Bel Air, a few companies introduced fuel-injection to American cars, and Chrysler reached a peak in styling with the Forward Look. Especially nice were the '57 Imperial and De Soto Adventurer convertibles. Check out these two '75s going up for sale soon...the Imperial was even owned by Howard Hughes at one point. What do you think of them? http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/2793
  14. Thanks. I agree with your assessment that it probably would have worked better if it were an actual minivan. Those big doors in the back are dangerous in a parking lot, especially if kids are opening them. I didn't have any problem using the cruise control, but it took a while to get used to where the turn signal was located, which is slightly lower than almost every other vehicle on the market. I wasn't the only person to have a problem with these stalk and I have spoken to Mercedes-Benz owners who made the same complaint as I did. It just takes some getting used to.
  15. I just spent a week behind the wheel of the R350. It wasn't as much as I thought it would be...it cost more than I thought it would...it drank gas a bit more than I expected...and I still kinda liked it. Check out my review and let me know what you think... http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/2781
  16. The auctions are over but unless you were in Scottsdale, you wouldn't know about some of the best cars to cross the block. Is the audience for SpeedTV so focused on Corvettes and Mustangs that they wouldn't even want to see the other vehicles? And what about the other auctions? What do you think? http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/2747
  17. BV: It was more than a "handy-cam" (it's filmed in 1080i HD) but YouTube brings down the quality. For a YouTube video, I think the quality (which I had nothing to do with) is outstanding. THIS is NOT an actual audition tape, but practice to get up to that level. And the best out-takes are already in there! My forte is in writing, not performing. I'm trying to get better...in this age of multimedia, you've got to have a toe in everything.
  18. Go to the link...and click on the inset picture to see the video!!! What do you think of it?
  19. Here's my behind the wheel analysis of the Ford Fusion Hybrid. What do you think? Can I use this as an audition tape for replacing one of the guys on Top Gear? http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/2662
  20. The auction is right around the corner, so you're going to have to get registered quickly! It's a beautiful Porsche 904 (one of 106 built) and it's won races...back in the day. Wouldn't it make a great million dollar vintage racer? Is it on your list now? http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/2536
  21. It's just out of my budget, but maybe you can afford it. If you can, please invite me once in a while? I showed it to you...c'mon! Please!?!??!? Take a look at this little property and tell me what you think...maybe we can go in together on it. http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/2487
  22. The new issue of AutomotiveTraveler is available. Check it out as the new format is designed to be read on a Tablet or on your computer! In addition to my fine articles, there are pieces on the Corvette ZR1, driving through Italy in an Alfa Romeo MiTo, and "Chop Cut Rebuild. Let me know what you think! http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/2431
  23. Lennon's Chrysler sold for....$5,500. Not quite the $40,000 some were anticipating.
  24. I didn't realize John Lennon ever HAD a T&C, but he did. He owned it when he was murdered 30 years ago. It's being sold today...check out the car: http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/2380
