  1. Another Crewman AWD name if it has the Midgate: CASCADE Thanks for sending my thoughts in that direction, Roger.
  2. Well, my digging has paid off - sort of. It's coming It's not a Chevy El Camino Any future El Camino depends on its success I hope for the best and will likely buy one, to trade-in when the El Camino does arrive. No more postable details at this time.
  3. Since I think a GMC version should only be a Crewman AWD: Adirondack.
  4. Imagine a Denali trimmed crew cab with AWD (higher ride height and discrete fender flares) and an Avalanche-style midgate. Now thats a GMC! Other versions belong elsewhere.
  5. A crew cab, especially one with AWD, makes complete sense for GMC. The standard cab, performance version does not. EDIT: It would also be a natural for the Denali treatment.
  6. Very well-reasoned, but I disagree entirely with this assessment and approach. I've been doing a bit of digging and it is becoming clear to me that a misguided sense of "caution" is driving this decision. Leave it to GM to snatch a failure from the teeth of a success. I would like to give you a point-by-point reponse later when time permits as your last post deserves that. For now, a few quick points. - My buying decision will not be based simply upon a badge, more on this later. - This is a vastly different issue from the Camaro SS vs, Z/28 debate! - The current GMC styling looks like crap on this vehicle. More later.
  7. Actually, I'd rather see them in short supply or sold out each year but wearing a Chevy badge.
  8. This is great stuff!! Now where are the ads that tell the world about it?
  9. I would hope so with the success of the SUVs over recent years. But this vehicle? I think it would be lost in the shuffle at GMC and do little better than the Sprint and Caballero of the past. As part of a potential G8 "family" I think it has a shot. But not one which would approach a Chevy version.
  10. Why the venom? This, by rights , should be an El Camino and sold as a Chevrolet. If that cannot be, then that's a shame no matter the reason behind it. I would love to have that SP of yours, because it is a very, very, rare car. Which leads me to my main objection to GMC getting this one. During the years when both GMC and Chevy built these, the GMC couldn't even sell 10% of the Chevy numbers consitently. If the Ute goes to GMC now, I am afraid that it will fail dismally and, as a side-effect remove any possibility that Chevy will ever get an El Camino again. I can't stand that possibilty. So, yes, I'm a bit ticked-off that GM would even consider the idea. I have other objections to GMC getting it, but this one point is all I really need to give the notion the thumbs down. I am , however, warming to the idea of this being a Pontiac G8 variant. But it should still be a 50th anniversary Chevrolet El Camino. That's the right thing to do whether or not GM does it. Will I buy a Pontiac or GMC version? Maybe. But I was ready to order the Chevy. And, I don't feel the need to be grateful to GM for getting things almost right. Especially when completely right is within such easy reach and they've had most of a decade to plan for it.
  11. Not the Camaro wheelbase, it will be longer.
  12. According to GuionM, a case is being made for the G8 wagon right now. Seems it was a little tidbit he ran across while searching for information on the Ute.
  13. It seems that a G8 wagon is under consideration as well... So, I'm thinking that a G8 Ute is what we are looking at rather than a GMC. It's like the Chevelle Project come to life in Pontiac form! I have also seen a rumor that the Monaro will be the next Holden reveal.
  14. You might get the chance,Roger. The word is that a case is being made to do just that! And no, the wagon has not been officially released yet. These pics originated from an Australian website. Don't forget that these are HSV models that we may never see.
  15. Yup! The pair of them are the modern equivalent of my two project cars! I'd love to see all four side-by-side in my barn. :AH-HA_wink:
  16. Love 'em both!
  17. Yeah K.C., I was up past 3:00 AM trying to chase this down. Nothing new to report right now.
  18. Holy crap! http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=1795584
  19. OK, let's run 'em down. I agree on the names issue, but would argue that anyone who remembers El Camino would also remember that it was a Chevy. The SSR has little to do with El Camino beyond a vague similarity of configuration. It is not a valid basis of comparison. GM is only planning for this to go to one brand, the question is which one?
  20. Count on it!
  21. Yeah, that was me. I kept trying to chase this down until after 3:00 this morning, I feel like I'm close to an answer. And close to falling back to sleep.
  22. There is still the chance that it could be called El Camino under a non-Chevy brand. The plot thickens.
  23. Well, I no longer know what my next new car will be. So I guess I should enjoy the hunt. Maybe a Challenger.
  24. Seems like some pretty basic logic, doesn't it.
