  1. The transverse leaf spring is cheaper than a coil spring setup, plus Chevy has been working with this since at least C4 maybe longer.
  2. Naw, people drive AMC Gremlins (not Pacers) which came from the factory with a V8 and then they modded them out, they aren't too much bigger than a VW OLD Beetle (of course it was heavier), heard one guy got his running in the 7's with the original motor and the rest of the car intact (not stripped to a shell), they may be ugly as an Aztec but they could go when built right.
  3. Its really happening, I mean it is really going to happen, someone get me a kleenex ™, I think I am going to cry, god if they cancel it now I am picketing the Ren Cen (aka: GM World HQ).
  4. Not much here in Michigan, Jennifer Granholm (our state governor) took care of that (our state government was supposed to shut down at midnight 10/1/07 because of lack of money), and as you can see I don't make enough to move elsewhere (plus the wife doesn't want to move, I tried) so I have to tough it out an make a stand right here.
  5. You really do believe everything you read in the the media don't you, I am (obviously) a member of the UAW, I am a employee of Delphi Saginaw Steering Systems Plant 6, now I don't sit and work on a line I work in the machining dept. fabricating parts for the steering columns, plus I also run two furnaces for heat treating of these parts, yet I make less than $15.00 an hour, but my job requires that I have the combined skills of a machine operator, a millwright, a electrician, a pipefitter, a hydraulic and pneumatic tech, a computer repair specialist (IT), a quality inspector, and a pyro tech, I see at least 6 college degrees or certifications in what I do on a daily basis (40 hours a week minimum), but yet according to you I have an "inflated pay/pension based on market conditions that are making my employer uncompetitive", If you question at all what I do for a living (or what I have just said) you are more than welcome to come to where I work and spend the day with me (I can make arrangements) to see for yourself what I have told you is true.
  6. You know it is really easy to talk like you do living in Arizona where the states economy is not based on the ups and downs of the auto industry, but here in Michigan things are ALOT different, and yes GM is selling more cars but who in the hell do you think is busting ass to build them, (and no not all of them are Mexican, Japaneese, Chineese, Korean, or Canadian autoworkers), and let see how you would like it if after working 15 or 20 years at your job your boss comes up to you and says that you need to take a pay cut and loose your health benefits what kind of mood you will be in.
  7. QUOTE(enzl @ Sep 25 2007, 01:16 PM) I tend to agree with the conspiracy theorists that this 'action' was pre-ordained, allowing the UAW to appear strong and GM to look like they're finally not agreeing to business as usual, vis-a-vis the UAW. If the strike cuts a few weeks of inventory, relieves GM of the burden of pay for the days off & results in a historic deal that the Union can sell to membership, its all good. Of course, if the UAW isn't careful, they may be killing their golden goose. Interesting, just to add fuel to the fire while all this was going on at Delphi (at least my plant) they were really pushing us to get our "strike banks" in (for GM) while they laid off 400 workers, and then today (9/26/07) out of the blue our goals were all completed (my bank still had 60,000+ parts to go for what GM paid for back in Feburary) and most of the laid off workers are getting call backs.
  8. Because in many cases that is all that is out there, and you take what you can get to make a half way decent living esp. if you live in the state of Michigan and you don't really have the money to move to another state for better employment, plus if you ship all of the jobs out to China what are all of the plant supervisors, manager's, accountants, advisor's, engineers, foremen and other anti-UAW crybabies in these forums going to do for employment if all of the factories in the U.S. are closed as you suggest, wiseass.
  9. For what? conspiring against the American worker, you might as well throw the Canadian government in there for offering free health care, since Canada has recieved alot of new buisness from GM lately (ex: the Camaro).
  10. Until recently look at the product they have been offering the consumer, unless you are a die hard GM fan (like myself and others on this site) what has Rick had to offer and really how much of that credit goes to Bob.
  11. Something needs to be clarified here, this strike is affecting other UAW workers here too, sure the GM workers are on strike and the Ford and Chrysler workers are watching closely, but alot of UAW workers who did settle their contracts (Delphi) without a strike (sure there were threats, but NO ACTUAL STRIKE) that are now being laid off because of this, so when you decide to slam the workers (which in itself is wrong unless you have actually done the work, hearsay does not count) please clarify that it is the GM workers that you wish to hurl your wrongful accusations to.
  12. Guess what that is exactly what they are doing, because I work for Delphi and right now just about all my parts (for steering columns) are going to Mexico.
  13. Out of curiosity what does your wife do? is she a nurse? And have you ever worked in a production facillity or a plant and I am not just talking on the line, what is your point of reference?
  14. I don't know, Chevy had that ultralight ZR-1 prototype that they called SS, but instead of Super Sport it stood for Snake Skinner, with Dodge waving their 600 hp Vipers in everyones face I could'nt think of a more appropriate name, even ZR-1 SS would fit in this case. Oh and the ZR1 (or ZR-1) name plate is no way more legendary than the SS (or Super Sport) name plate, just because only 2 Corvette's (from GM) ever were known as SS'es (the afformentioned Snake Skinner and the 1957 Corvette SS race cars [of which only 2 and the mule {which became the Sting Ray racecar} were made]) you can't rule out the Camaro's, Chevelle's, Impala's, Nova's, etc., etc., that contributed to the SS legacy.
  15. Um you are a little off in your math, the article said that for the price of a fully loaded C6 convertable you could get a mid engined C7 I check GM Buy Power and for a C6 convertable and it is as follows: MSRP $58,995.00 and $66,495.00 fully loaded, granted these figures are for 2007 (2008 was not yet available) but they are not the $72,000 that you are quoting which doesn't seem like a big difference, but it is a HUGE difference in the monthly payments and the amound of intrest you are going to pay.
  16. But still, only a FOUR speed automatic, come on GM step up, everyone else is eating your lunch.
  17. Well there is Toyota (though it probably would'nt all be accurate but for alot of us it would be fun).
  18. This guy has been around before, the Clenet should be your first tipoff, it was basically a rebodied Lincolin, designed to look like somthing from the 20's or 30's, it sold somewhat in the 80's but ultimately it failed. http://www.clenet.org/ http://clenetcorner.com/jpegs/whatis1.jpg http://clenetcorner.com/jpegs/whatis2.jpg
  19. I stand corrected on that, then, but at the same time when someone throws the word "legendary" around they have to be careful what they are measuring themselves up against, Corvette, Camaro, Bel Air, Impala, GTO, Firebird, Chevelle, Suburban, K5 Blazer, S-Series Trucks, C/K-Series Trucks, C10 Trucks, GMT-Series Trucks, ALMOST the entire Cadillac line through its history, Roadmaster, Century, Rocket 88, just to name a few, and if I am not mistaken Chevrolet hasn't done too bad in off-road racing itself.
  20. I replied with this (I expect that I will be locked out by their admin soon after this because they are so sensitive): "Yes it is obvious that I favor GM products (my father help build them for over 40 years, and I to am involved with a major parts supplier to GM), but I have sat and observed this site for ahwile and watched the "GM Bashing" go on for along time, I will play by the rules of the game and not curse or use sexual or profane material, but I WILL NOT KEEP MY MOUTH SHUT IF MY OPINION CONFLICS WITH YOURS, Toyotas are good vehicles but they are NOT the LEGENDARY vehichles you make them out to be, people don't write popular songs about them for instance (409, Little Red Corvette, GTO, American Pie, etc.), for the most part they are utillitarian tools that people have little to no passion about, and they certainly are not perfect, they are machines and they do break, or do we need to bring up faulty camshafts in 5.7 liter V8's or transmission problems in new Camry's (because I know you guys have a laundry list of all of GM's failing's some true some probably made up because of fanboy pride)."
  21. Well I posted this: "A locking differential is not the same as a limited slip differential. In very low grip situations a locking diff is superior to a limited slip diff is superior to an open diff. The point of this demonstration was to show what Chevy can do in 2-wheel drive while the Tundra requires 4 wheel drive, therefore this is not a "half truth" or a "smoke and mirrors" campaign." And this is what I have recieved in reply: "FToyota, say what you want, but Toyota has a legendary reputation for off-road capability than GM cant match. Since you are obviously such a lover of GM products, perhaps you would be happier on a forum thats made for GM enthusiasts. If you come here for the purpose of bashing Toyotas, save it because the powers that be here on TF wont stand for it." I think I may have touched a nerve here.
  22. Unless they are reading this site, to paraphrase Sgt Shultz: they know nothing they see nothing, btw I am no newbee I used to be SS427 so I have been around for awhile.
  23. I posted this video on ToyotaFans.net (http://www.toyotafans.net/having-380-hp-is-not-so-great-if-you-can-39-t-get-to-the-ground-t2376.htm) just as a experiment in "natural curiosity" (O.K. I was seeing what kind of Sh t I could stir up, I did'nt choose the user name FToyota over there for nothing) and here are the responses so far: "Ive seen the vid, and heres my take. Notice how much harder they hit the bank with the Chevy? They hit it so hard that the driver's side rear tire came off the ground. The Toyota would have went though that no problem if they had only locked it into 4x4. Also, a limited-slip diff comes standard on the Tundra, so I dunno what GM is talking about with their automatic rear locker claim. One again, typical half-truth on GM's part. They will do anything to try to discredit Toyota, even if that means a smoke 'n mirrors campaign." "Repeatability is the key to any experiment. This is only marketting." "Totally agree. Though I do like Chevy trucks, there is no proof that this commercial stunt could be repeated in real life. I can make a truck do anything I want it to do on TV, including climb a tree. That doesn't mean it would actually work." And my personal fave (from a Dodge Dakota owner no less) copied word for word (minus all of the emoticons): "HAHA... Well, I used to own a Silverado Z71 and let me tell you. Chevy ain't got nothing on Toyota AND my husband's cousin has a Tundra and we live in Southeastern Oklahoma. Do you know what we do for fun in Southeastern Oklahoma? We FOURWHEEL DRIVE ANYTHING!!! No Chevy ain't gonna out do Toyota. PERIOD. I ain't gonna say Chevy isn't pretty but that's what they do.. They look pretty and sit.. Toyota looks GREAT and PERFORMS!!!! And that's my 2cents worth! LOL" As for the just lock it in 4 wheel drive comments I asked what if you just have two wheel drive (My exact comment was: "What if you only have two wheel drive?") I was thinking I would get a intelligent answer because you never what will happen ON or OFF road, the response was this: "If ya only had 2 wheel drive, leave it on the pavement,,, my 2 cents worth" Have fun with this.
