Interactive Review: 2011 Cadillac SRX Turbo Premium
Drew Dowdell replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Reviews
It could have been an unknowing car jockey that put regular in it. It only takes one time to blow up an engine if you use the wrong fuel and push it hard. They were supposed to get an ECU flash to prevent that though. -
.... but for which.

I think Tom is saying that it was an error on their part.

I sent a note to Consumer Guide pointing out your questions in this thread. And I sent a note to the GM fleet provider to find out if the TSB has been applied to the Cruze being delivered on Thursday,.

Yeah, the one site that I remove links to when I can. But I've also sent an email to Cadillac to get some more information about this announcement. -

The only Civic I like, and it swings the needle from dislike to like, is the Civic Hybrid because the power train noises are greatly diminished while also helping out a lot with around town torque. -
Further explanation: Not all of the articles will be reviews. Some will be technical articles like my EGR Technology or Z-06's eAssist article. Some will be a framed article like "The case for..... (insert vehicular wish list here". And I also need someone to do top 10 lists each week and run the polls.

Cheers and Gears for 2011
December 31, 2010 - Drew Dowdell - Chief Editor CheersandGears.com

2010 was a year of steady growth for Cheers and Gears in terms of revenue and traffic. I am looking to accelerate that growth for 2011. I fell I should share with you our goals for 2011 and some of the plans in the works that will help us to reach them.

More unique content. As some of you may have seen, I am looking to hire out writing work. In the coming year we will be scaling back on the use of our NewFeeder bot and instead generating our own articles to post. Partnerships with automobile dealerships. People who join the writing staff will also get a form letter and business cards to be able to interact with local dealerships. Quite frequently, the manufacturers can't get the newest vehicles to me for long term tests until well after they arrive on lots. In the age of the internet, months become years. By partnering with local dealers, we will offer "Quick Drive"reviews without having to fib our way into an extended test drive at a dealer. At the same time, the dealership will get free advertising by thanking them with a link in the article. We will be adding the ability for direct buys of advertising on Cheers and Gears. This system was up and running as of yesterday and will be fully implemented over the next week. In the absence of direct buy advertising, our normal Google Adsense will be shown automatically. Direct buy advertising generally brings in a higher price than Adsense, but happens less frequently. We will finally be opening our Cheers and Gears Wiki in first quarter 2011. One of our dedicated users is already working to build the basic framework of the Wiki. You should expect to hear something about it in late January to early February. We will be offering unique merchandise not available anywhere else starting summer of 2011. Yes you'll be able to purchase a shirt with a C&G logo on it, but it will be even more than that too. The software that runs the front page needs to be replaced. At the moment, the replacement is beyond my technical abilities, so a programmer might need to be hired. The replacement is needed because the company that built our front page portal appears to have gone defunct. I don't want to risk being left behind on IP.Board upgrades by being unable to upgrade the front page. The Gallery software will be replaced in early January. Hopefully before Detroit NAIAS.This is important because the upload routine in the new software works much better over a poor connection...which is the case when I'm sitting in the Cobo Center in Detroit. I just have to wait for IP Soft to release the damn thing. Hiring Promotional workers - this will be what's called "piecework" where the worker gets paid by the number of links you post. This will greatly generate traffic to Cheers and Gears. New Skins. I have already hired someone to replace all of the skins on Cheers and Gears with new branded skins and colors. We will be rolling out those skins over the next 2 - 4 months.
As always I welcome your comments and suggestions.
Happy and Prosperous New Year to all!

Drew

This is the official thread to apply in. I know people have offered in the past, but it's becoming more and more clear to me that I can't run the site mostly by myself. Producing original content is what is most important for C&G, and I would like to devote more of my time to that as well as getting more people in on that action. The Auto shows are where this is most important. I'm going to try and assign everyone a brand or two and I want those people to write about whatever news comes out of the auto shows regarding that particular brand. Promoting that content can be a full time job in of itself, so that's why I made that a separate position. Croc, I thank you for your application and you're one of the first in line to get forums when they start getting handed out. I just wanted to make the announcement globally rather than respond to just one email.

I'm going to have to go to the BMW and Benz dealer to find out. I'll say this, it feels exactly like a small Cadillac crossover should. Fast, handles decent (so far, haven't pushed it hard yet) feels luxurious, looks it too. -
Guys: I am looking for help with some areas of the website. Some of the jobs available: Permanent Jobs Forum Moderating duties - this includes Forum cleanup of your designated forum - i.e. removing threads that are over 90 days old and have 2 or less posts. There is an automatic script that can be run once a month, but it needs to happen per forum. Maintaining order in the forum, moderating disputes. Sending people to their room with no supper, etc. Maintaining accurate descriptions on your designated forums. Spam hunting Gallery Moderating duties - one position available Cleaning up descriptions of albums approving picture comments Making sure pictures are in the right album closing empty albums Setting the album cover if not done by the user Promotion Managers Linking to relevant articles on C&G via other website (digg, rededit, facebook, twitter) Submitting C&G articles to link directories At a later date, soliciting for advertising sales on C&G once the software is installed to manage it. - Once this part becomes active this will become a paying position. Article writers - this will become a paid position depending on how successful it is. Write articles from a list of topics approved by me. List will generally include writing about new vehicle launches, concepts, new technologies. Plus some editorial articles as assigned. Come up with, and manage, top 10 lists, polls, etc, to be run weekly Come up with contests and work with a budget to locate an appropriate prize. - this will be discussed more in depth with the candidates applying.
