  1. I disagree that the CTS-V doesn't count just because of the color of the interior trim bits. An AMG63 or M5 is going to run you another 20-30 grand over a CTS-V. What you're really saying is that Cadillac should offer a CTS-57 which is just an LS1 in a loaded CTS body. except looking good..... Had BMW ever made an M7.... you would have been able to make your point.
  2. It took a 21 year old in an M3 to beat an 80 year old in a CTS-V around a track. Don't tell me the CTS-V is only a straight line car. And the rest is Bull crap. None of the models introduced since Lutz came in are 10 years old yet for you to even know that. My CTS was as solid as the day I bought it when I turned it in 4 years later. I'm sure the trim pieces, cup holders, buttons, and switches falling off my ex's Passat were of the highest German quality. The very idea that BMWs or Jaguars don't age is ludicrous.
  3. You should have told him to post the listing here for free!
  4. How come you and SMK can't see the Cadillac with V8 power? I can. And at $62,165 for 556 hp compared to the E550i's $59k and 400hp, it will easily blow the BMW into the weeds. NONE of the other sedans you mention offer CTS-V power for that money. Add on top of that... if your basis that Cadillac is moving down market since they aren't offering a V8 in their soft lux car, well, MB and Audi are ahead of Cadillac on that. Both are preparing to bring out 4-cylinder versions of their big daddy cars.
  5. It's it an '04 CTS in handling ability? Probably not, but I don't know yet. What I can say thus far is that it's a much more willing dance partner than almost any mid-size family sedan out there right now. I've yet to drive a CC, but I'm guessing it's the closest in agility. The Camry handles like a '92 Century compared to the Regal. If you're in the market a better handling family sedan, my guess is that it would come down to the Regal, CC, and Mazda6.
  6. The photo is stock from GM's media archive. Oh yeah - Any Aura buyers or those who were interested in the Aura could slide right into this car and be very happy with it.
  7. I think the target market for the base Regal isn't going to be "us". It's designed for people who want to grow up a bit from their Jetta/'02 Passat/G6/Fusion/Mom's Camry but still want decent fuel economy. It's only EPA rated 1mpg less on the highway than the CC, but again I think it will beat it's highway rating without any attempts to hypermill it. I don't think the engine is light off the line at all, as I said, throttle tip in is very nice and at suburban/city speeds, it feels more like a small 6 instead of a 4-cylinder. The only time I really wished for more was an uphill onramp. No, the car doesn't feel heavier than any general mid-sizer out there. (I haven't driven a Sonata) Ride is definitely firmer than your typical family sedan. I haven't gotten a chance to throw it around yet, but steering is very responsive in my short time driving it so far.
  8. Has CSpec found a topic in which he and I agree completely!?
  9. Wasn't that 4-cylinder Porsche a boxer engine though? Those have different vibration characteristics.
  10. I've actually had to purchase it 3 times because I keep destroying the CD somehow. Steam to the rescue, never have to purchase it again!
  11. I wouldn't call the 2.4 underpowered at all in this application, it's simply sufficient. Throttle tip in is aggressive and when you're just bopping around town, it feels like there is more engine under the hood than there really is. It's only under full throttle do you realize "hey! this isn't a 6!" At a drag race, yes a Toyota Camry V6 will win, but in every day driving this 4 cylinder is rather nice. Also, I bet it'll beat it's EPA highway fuel economy of 30mpg in the real world; 65mph with the cruise on was registering 34-36mpg
  12. :-P I still play it all the time

  15. Far too many variables to give a serious answer. Am I expanding an existing right of way? Am I just rebuilding existing lines with welded rail and concrete ties? Am I going for full electrification or will we be using the current diesel design? Basic double track freight line is $1m per mile when starting from barren land. Concrete ties add another $500k per mile Electrification adds $5m per mile, but allows much higher top speeds Bridges, tunnels, etc, add to cost substantially.... and since you can't have grade crossings with high speed rail, roads sometimes have to be moved or underpasses created. When all is said and done, you're looking at $9m-$12m per mile electrified depending on terrain. As a point of reference, standard 4-lane highway is about the same per mile until you throw in interchanges. One interchange alone can be $30 million. For $400m in Ohio, lets pretend we'll be using an abandoned right of way for a slight discount (there are lots) and we'll use diesel instead of electric and aim for an average cruise speed of 110mph. Cost per mile would probably be in the $4m - $8m range including bridges and such. Which means you'd get 50 to 100 miles for your $400 million. However, $400 million was just what the feds were kicking in. Ohio was going to have to kick in money too.
  16. I think we need to clarify our definition of Highspeed Rail. 79mph is not high speed rail... as such, I'm not sure how the Madison Milwaukee line qualified for funding. 79mph is actually fairly standard speed for most of Amtrak.
  17. yes I did, just a busy few days.... we'll work something out
  18. and especially cutting weight
  19. Regal will be joining C&G for an interactive review this afternoon. :-)

  21. “What's good for GM is good for America” used to be just a slogan. It might even have been true.

    a 2.5L?

without a turbo, generally the larger displacement, the lower rpm that torque becomes available.
