Why do you have the assumption that only people not born here are going to be pulled over? I'm also white and speak very well good english. The assumption for this law is; if you are brown and speak spanglish, you are assumed to be here illegally. That is where the racist element comes in. I'm sure there are a great many people who fit that description who are natural born or naturalized citizens. To give you an example of how this law is unfair. My boss is Canadian, but lives in Texas. Has a Texas driver's license. He is not a U.S. citizen. He speaks perfect American English except for a couple words. He is as white as the freshly fallen snow. He is required under that law to carry his papers. Do you really think, if he were caught speeding in AZ while missing his papers, that he would be hauled into jail while his immigration status gets checked out? As long as my boss doesn't say the words "about", "project", or "process", the cop would be none the wiser, give him his ticket, and send him on his way. ....but if he's brown and speaks spanglish, he goes direct to jail, do not pass go, do not collect $200, even if he was born in Corpus Christi.

Ok... how about we state it this way; The law itself is not racist, however it was written with racist motivation in order to enable racism. Remember, the poll tax wasn't racist, neither were literacy tests for voting.....it just happened to disproportionally effect "colored" people.... which was the intent behind those laws in the first place. THERE IS NO LAW IN THE U.S. THAT SAYS I MUST CARRY PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP WITH ME AT ALL TIMES! And since that law hasn't been written, how can I possibly get locked up for 3 days in jail while my birth certificate is attempted to be located 3 timezones away? It's wrongful imprisonment. If I get pulled over in PA for speeding, I have to produce a driver's license, registration, and proof of insurance. A driver's license is not proof of citizenship. My passport is kept in a safe.... you're not getting to it if I'm in jail.

And again you're ignoring that cops can pull you over for a seat-belt check if they want.

uhm... no, just a very vocal, bat $h! crazy segment of the AZ population is racist..... it's true everywhere, but more true in AZ apparently.

Just in case it wasn't clear that there might, just might, be a racial element to the AZ law...... some more FAIL from Arizona.

The CTS has detents...Medium and "all the way"

It's not a 2004 CR-V in rear visibility, no. There is a blind spot on either side of the car that can't be covered with the mirrors. But straight out the back, you can see what you need to see. I haven't sat in the back seat yet, and tomorrow I'm taking it on the same road course I took the Regal on last week, so I haven't gotten a chance to really try the handling.... but all indications are that it's not a cruiser. I can say this right now though. He loves the look and the interior, but Albert doesn't like the ride. He's not a sports car kinda guy. Of all the cars we've had as testers, he still likes the Lacrosse best because he is almost always the passenger and wants quiet, smooth, and comfortable. If you include CUVs, he'd want an Enclave if it were smaller (note to Buick, there is a market for a baby Enclave out there) The doors are not heavy, I haven't done a hill test, but I will. I also haven't moved the Toronado in two weeks (feeling guilty) so maybe I'll take her for a spin and then try the garage test.

Side visibility is fine. Ingress/egress is easier than a Camaro from the driver seat.

Again.... illustrating the problem. But if a Canadian is here after their visa expired, they're not going to get random traffic stopped because "their left blinker fluid looked a bit low" and then hauled to jail while the authorities figure out their immigration status.

Don't disagree, however most of that time is not from "process" but from insufficient staffing by the government. If all paperwork is in order, it shouldn't take much more than a year. I can be repatriated to Germany in about 6 months assuming everything is in order. 10 years is a bit much don't you think?
