  1. Actually, if I remember right, the reason that GM put out the gas cap in Florida and California is because those are the two primary states where GM truck sales are slower than any other state. By the way, here in Alabama, I see at least, 10 new Tahoes, Escalades, Yukons, and Suburbans running around each day.
  2. Then the movie will suck just as the cartoon series with Prime as a fire engine sucked. Optimus Prime was (at least in my heart) and will forever be a 80,000-lb Frieghtliner that just happened to turn into a 30-ft tall kick-ass and lead to you anything robot.
  3. All right, with the exception of normal wear and tear items on the Impala, I've had to replace wheel hub assemblies once (need to do the driver's side again due to a bad wheel speed sensor), and the oxygen sensor behind the cat finally pissed me off enough to make me remove it and install and newer, shinier one. The truck is a different story, in 273,000+ miles and 30 years of family owner ship the engine was rebuilt at 199,876 miles, transmission at 142,359 miles, and now the differential no longer likes me or the rest of my family. The rest is normal stuff, you know, shocks all the way around (1), fuel pump (1), alternator (2), starter (1), water pump (1), master cylinder (1), calipers (2), wheel cylinders (1) and u-joints (1). Otherwise its all stock, including the 30-year old suspension that is in need of rebuilding, but still overall drivable. The 1999 Grand Am SE2 sport coupe I had was wonderful, replaced the passenger side mirror at the stupidity of a friend, both window regulators went bad (stupid plastic pulleys), and the alternator bracket broke due to a not there, but supposed to be bolt (replaced under warranty). Great car until an Expedition t-boned it on the passenger side.
  4. My only real thinking on this one is that Optimus Prime better be a damned Red cab-over Frieghtliner (like he's supposed to be) not some blue and white truck like all the supposed clips show. Now, there could and should also be a white cab-over in there too, we will all know him as Ultra Magnus. I can't believe I remember all the names, although I do have the entire 1st generation series on dvd along with the movie and MANY MANY MANY Transformers toys..
  5. I've thought of painting the calipers on my Impala, but I don't know what color to go with....the car is black with a tan interior with gold pinstriping and silver Impala badges on the doors and trunk lid. So dunno what color to do the calipers in.
  6. Here's mine! 350cid, bored .040 over, 272/282 Melling Street Performance cam, Dynomax headers, Holley aluminum Street Dominator Intake, 670cfm Holley 4-bbl vacuum secondary carb, Accel 48,000-volt supercoil, port and polish job on the heads....all in all, 385 horses to the rear wheels, 415 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels.
  7. All right... let me see if I can put my semi-rational thoughts into this one. The V8, as an engine is a reliable, strong (both in the horsepower and torque departments), smooth running engine. The V6, in 60* form is a reliable, smooth running engine, and as everyone else has said, if you get a 300 horsepower V6, you lose all mileage increases you'd "normally" see by not opting for the V8 in your vehicle (if it has one as the option). Being that I'm someone who prefers a truck over a car in most of my driving situations (although yes, I do own a FWD, V6 powered car right now), I will always lean towards a V8 in any vehicle, no matter what they are. I like the idea of downsizing a V8 into the 3-4 liter range, and also have larger-displacement engines for the high-performance versions of cars and trucks. I'm also a fan of diesel engines. They're very torque-y engines and are also typically excellent when it comes to mileage. Do I think the V8 will die, no, I don't, there's too much of a "warm, fuzzy feeling" about it to have the V8 just up and die. Do I think that the V6 is currently playing catch-up with the V8s? Yes, I do, hands down. Do I also think that the V6 will hit a wall where they become exponentially more UNreliable with more horsepower, YES, I do. ON the same hand. Do I think that V8s will continue to gain in the horsepower and torque department? Yes, hands down. Do I think that they will also hit a wall where they become exponentially more UNreliable too? Yes, I do, every engine, no matter how many cylinders and how much technology you have in the engine, it WILL break, sometimes it just takes a helluva lot more to break them.
  8. All right, your car needs too reference signals off the crankshaft so that it can provide an accurate picture of where the piston is so it knows when to fire the spark plugs. The 7x signal is just that, its a reluctance ring in the middle of the crankshaft that the primary crankshaft position sensors reads off of. Its a ring that has a shutter wheel on it with seven teeth, the first six of course are the six cylinders that the car has, then the seventh (actually first), provides a reference signal to let the ECM know that the first cylinder is on its way by. The 24x camshaft position sensor is the one located on a bracket behind the harmonic balancer (crankshaft pulley). That sensor provides a more defined signal that the computer can use to help advance/retard the timing when you stomp on the gas and also helps the vehicle from pinging and detonating.
  9. Good point reg, only one problem, not an Izusu dealer anywhere close (closest one is about an hour away and I don't really want to drive that darned far for a ride). And I've seen some of the deals on the TB, and I've test driven one, and I like it, but right now I've got too much negative equity built up in my Impala at current time, therefore, I can't really get the vehicle in the next week, or even month right now. But I am definitely looking.
  10. I dunno, something about assuming a lease just never sounds 100% right to me. If I'm going to get another ride, its going to either be a new lease, or a new or used purchase, assuming a lease brings up too much worry in my mind.
  11. I wish that I could get my wife back into "real" teaching again, but right now she's happy where she is, although I would enjoy her teaching at a real school again simply because I actually enjoyed helping her grade.
  12. You sound about as giddy and happy-go-lucky as I did three years ago when I met Amy. I couldn't stop thinking about her, and every date, minute, hour, second I could spend with her was better than the last. And thank GOD its still that way with us, although right now I'm on the confuser and she's watching TV, we are still talking and laughing like we did on our first date, August 1st, 2003.
  13. That's a nice looking mo-chine there SP. I've always had an affinity towards the big cars like the Malibu, Impala, and Caprice.
  14. I have seriously thought about an Av, and I don't, repeat DO NOT wanta minivan (the wife wants one, or a Magnum, but I damn sure don't). And yes, I know that the DuraMax's fuel filter is huge, I sell at least one a day (I work at CarQuest Auto Parts...so yeah, i know how big some parts are). I really wouldn't mind the diesel option on a truck simply becuase I know that the Duramax is a reliable oil-burner. I also plan on doing some towing with the vehicle, so that pretty well ousts any choices from the minivan and cross-over market. And I can't have a Tahoe or Suburban (according to the dear wife who is currently standing over my shoulder).
  15. It was an eye-opening article, but it did make a lot of sense. I guess that although I'm only 23, a big part of me would be better suited for the 60s because I still think of a new car as a status symbol, and I've had to more or less fight for everything I currently own, but that's beside the point.
  16. those are the miracle cars that everyone always looks for.
  17. Best of luck to you Paulie, I know that multiple interviews can always be nerve-wracking.
  18. All right, what have you done to fix that code? The computer on the cars can actually "prioritize" the codes and will only show one if the ECM deems it as a more important code than others. Which means if you haven't fixed and erased the P0300 code, then that's all that's going to show because the computer see's a random or multiple misfire as a greater evil.
  19. Whoops, part of my mind was screaming at me about the 67-72 body style, but part of me was also saying "no, its 68-72" so I went with the lesser of the two evils.
  20. Yeah, i've heard that buying a house normally always requires buying a truck of some sort.
  21. All right, currently I have a 2001 Chevrolet Impala LS 9C1 sedan. 3.8L 231cid 90* Buick V6, 4T65E transmission. 115,720 miles on the odometer. Oil changed every 3500 miles (give or take 20miles), transmission fluid changed at 100,000 along with coolant flush and refill. Full tune-up (plugs, wires, oil, trans fluid, coolant, hoses, pcv valve, etc) performed at 105,000 miles. Brakes replaced all the way around by 80,000 miles, front rotors turned at that time. Replaced front wheel hub assemblies at 109,000 miles (although I have to yank the driver's one out again due to a bad ABS wheel speed sensor). Front end aligned at 85,000. Struts never replaced, although that's the next project along with both Oxygen Sensors. Car runs great, gets excellent gas mileage (averaged 34 mpg on the way to Pensacola this weekend), looks pretty good (if you can forgive the running crack in in the windshield and hail dings). I still owe about 9-grand on the car (don't ask, I got screwed into it after totalling my 99 GA SE2 coupe), but I'm looking forward to trading it in in the near future. I'm looking at really only two vehicles to replace it with, a crew cab Silverado/Sierra, or a Trailblazer (for some reason the Envoy just doesn't look as good). I don't really have many requirements, color and options package doesn't really matter to me. If its one of the trucks I'd prefer it with the V8, or the DuraMax/Allison combo; if its the T/B the I6 is the perferred powerplant. My only other requirements are that there is enough room for my wife and our upcoming rug rat and that it has a cd player. Payment-wise, I'm looking at probably no more than my current payment on the Impala (about 260 a month), but I know that I could handle up to about 280 if necessary. Anyone got good suggestions, or ideas?
  22. The Durango is hideous (to quote a good friend "It looks like buffed $h!"). The Pathfinder looks better to me, but I still don't like it becaues its a Nissan.
  23. Yeah, you could 68, but then you'd have to recoup from the surgery and it would be even longer before you could start on that beaut.
  24. First question. Is the car setting off the "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light? Second question. If it is, have you run by an AutoZone and had them run the codes on it? Third Question. If you have, can you remember what they are, or at least the DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) number, should start with a P-and then a four-digit code, like P0300 (random/multiple misfire detected)? Because without more information I could easily suggest all the above sensors and still not fix the problem without more definite information.
  25. Of course, my personal is the '73-'87 since I own one, there are three in the family, and well they are what I more or less expect a truck to be, you know?
