  1. Thunderstorms are great, I love to watch them no matter where i'm at, at work, at home, on the porch at my mom and dad's house, they are awesome to watch, normally I just turn the tv off, let the blinds up, kill the lights in the house and just watch....kinda mesmerized like a little kid watching a baby blue 1972 SS454 Chevelle slowly cruise past you in a parade.
  2. Another word from me on this one. I say keep the Camaro as a bare-bones, go out and kick someone's ass through a wall car. Then, lets add in a four-door sedan, strap the Camaro's underpinnigs, call it Impala. Then lets come up with a wagon, two and four door variants, make it both bare bones and fully loaded, and call it Chevelle, then make a VERY lux coupe and call it Monte Carlo.....but I dunno, this might not work, but it sounds plausible to me.
  3. I was watching the news this morning on CNN and just before a commercial break, I caught the clip about the new side-impact crash ratings. Chevy Impala is number 1 followed by the Toyota Camry (or fat Mazda 6, if you so desire). I think that this is good news, considering the car comes standard with side-impact airbags, meanwhile some of its other competitors don't. I'm also surprised to see that someone else hasn't already posted something about it on here. Guess I get to be the one to spill the beans! Yay for me!!!
  4. I read the bible every day at lunch while I work (helps keep my sanity whilst slinging car parts every day), and I've been re-reading my Dale Brown books, currently I'm on Day of the Cheetah, then it'll be Shadows of Steel, and the rest of the series. To see more about his books Dale Brown's Site
  5. Big congrats OCN, glad to hear that you've gotten a job to replace the one that you had, and good luck on the relationship, I normally don't give people second chances, but it may work out.
  6. Yes Sly, I do my own maintaining, its FAR cheaper. And I forgot about the possibility of debris in the pad.
  7. CV axles would make more a clunking sound. The wheel bearing would possibly squeal. Easy way to check, jack up the wheel in question, grab the tire and check to see for any free-play at the wheel. If you get a whole lot, replace the hub assembly. As far as replacing the hub assembly, remove the wheel, remove the spindle nut, remove the caliper and caliper bracket, remove the brake rotor, remove the three mounting bolts holding the hub assembly on, unplug the ABS wheel speed sensor, slide the hub assembly off the axle, slide the new hub on, reverse procedure.
  8. faulty ignition switches, after this many years? Sheesh, wouldn't that be just a "failed" ignition switch?
  9. Not always a good thing to see slow sales numbers, but like what everyone said, Cadillac doesn't have the biggest image in Europe, and what everyone over there needs to see is that its not just another American car, but its a competitive ride that deserves the same respect as the already well-known vehicles in Europe competing in the same catagoery.
  10. Like I said before, if you were coming out of said semi-flooded store with a loaf of bread, something to drink (other than alcohol), you know, things to SURVIVE with, fine, but if you were coming out with a TV, eight pairs of shoes, etc, you deserved a round to the head and another to the heart...call me cruel, I call it justice, you don't need a TV when you've got no power dip$h!.
  11. That's true, but still. I wouldn't really got with the Cat simply becuase I've heard issues with fuel mileage on them. They're great pulling and strong engines if you've got nothing but short hauls, but for something long-distance, the MB diesels, along with the Detriots and Cummins engines are longer-legged.
  12. The 3100 and 3400 are both prone to the Upper Intake Manifold gaskets leaking on them, causing the thing to eventually overheat and blow the head gaskets out. The 3800 has a problem with the coolant and EGR passages in the plastic upper intake on the vehicle, in which the hot EGR gases eat through the plastic (that's right, a plastic upper intake, brilliant idea), and compromises the coolant passage also, allowing antifreeze into the rest of the engine, and oil, causing all sorts of haywire. By the way, go with the Alero, they're good cars, I had a 99 GA SE2 coupe with the 3.4L, no problems, loved the car, got good mileage with my "very spirited" driving, until an Expedition decided she didn't like my passenger side rear fender/quater.
  13. If I wreck my Impala, I honestly won't mind, it'll let me "hopefully" get into a truck without being so damned upside down on the Impala right now.
  14. I'll bet its still driveable
  15. All right, if GM wasn't around and I couldn't drive any of my current GM vehilces.....a 1966 International Harvester 1600 Loadstar with the IHC 304, or a 1997 Massey Ferguson 231 tractor with Perkins Diesel, or a 1995 Kenworth with a newly dropped-in Detriot Diesel 60-series....(which by the way, means I'm still driving partially GM)
  16. I agree with sly on this one, give me something that isn't as complex, or as likely to break....imagine what you're going to pay when this thing goes on the blink, as compared to a "normal" automatic transmission, or a "normal" manual transmission.
  17. I kind of agree that Monte Carlo is a name that has become a little tired, meanwhile Chevelle is a name that really NEEDS to come back after the disappointments we've had with the Impala namesake and the Monte Carlo namesake coming back as FWD cars. And I really hope that the Chevelle comes in both two and four door variants.
  18. I've let it set in and I have to say that its grown on me and I can see more '73-'87 cues in it now that I've had a good chance to really look at it and study the pictures well. I like it, I really do, but I still want to see a regular cab or extended cab version simply because the crew cab STILL looks out of proportion.
  19. 76ChevyTrucker

    Yay

smart donkey! Well, I wouldn't hope for "bloody" rain either, but I would rather enjoy some liquid sunshine, the lawn and flowers need it...
  20. Lets see, we built a spray booth on our shop when it came time to paint my truck. We had a Craftsman suction-fed gun with a gravity fed detail gun. 5hp, 60-gal air compressor with a moisture filter at the compressor and again at the quick connect. For ventilation, we strapped a large (about 6 ft diameter) fan to the back of the shop and put two air filters in the doors with little let-down doors on it to drag air in. It worked pretty well for the time being and we still have the fan up to help with air circulation even when we're not painting. They aren't that hard to do, just make sure that youre equipment is in good shape and that you've got plenty of space to move around and good ventilation.
  21. Alabama has a helmet law, so I guess my arguement against one would be moot. I know that I would wear one along with some form of body armor or pads under my regular clothes to help pad me some if I had to dump the bike expectedly or unexpectedly. Then again with a kid on the way, the wifey won't exactly let me go get a bike like I want, but that's beside the point.
  22. yeah, its a Belair four door sedan, hard top, needs paint, maybe some minor surface rust, last time I asked, it ran (about a month ago), I just don't have the available cash for it and I can't convince Amy to let me go and take a loan out for it.
  23. Looks good to me. good luck on getting it into good condition. If I had the money for it, I would go and offer the guy that lives down the road from where I work the 4500 he's asking for a '57 Chevy Belair 4-dr that looks in very good condition, but alas, I don't have the money....oh well.
  24. Yeah, Darrell was the 2nd Gen Monte, and Junior was Dale Earnhardt Jr (although I'm sure you knew what I meant) I really do want to go and see that movie again, it'll probably be my weekend treat, probably take my mom and dad to it so that they can roll.
  25. Looks like you took a pretty good little knock, but like everyone else said, a car can be replaced, you can't. Good luck on getting it put back together and back on the road.
