How big is the Chinese market?

Featured Replies

How big is the Chinese market and how much of it is it held by local producers? Are the local producers focusing on the cheap car section of the market or are they making luxury cars as well?

Great Questions, we do know that auto companies must partner with Chinese companies to produce a certain amount of product in the market and then you have the pirate auto companies that make cheap knock off's of these auto's.

Volvo now being Chinese owned is essentially the only luxury car maker I know of in China.

I agree with you that it would be interesting to know. Anyone have any solid sales facts on Chinese versus foreign auto company sales and production numbers?

Everyone who sells there is a local producer, very few cars are imported into China from other locations... this is based on Chinese protectionist laws.  GM has to partner with other manufacturers to build their cars for the Chinese market.  They basically are building licensed version of say, the Buick Lacrosse, to sell there.
