The 2024 Hyundai Sonata represents a significant mid-cycle facelift of the 8th-generation DN8 platform, introducing a dramatic new front end with full-width horizontal LED daytime running lights, slim quad headlamps, and a repositioned center Hyundai badge that stretches across the hood. Inside, a dual 12.3-inch display panel housed under a single curved panel replaces the previous setup, bringing a more modern and cohesive cockpit feel. The lineup spans SE, SEL, SEL Convenience, and Limited trims powered by a 2.5-liter inline-four, with the N Line adding a turbocharged 2.5T producing 290 horsepower for drivers who want genuine sport credentials in a midsize sedan.

The Toyota Crown is sort of attractive. When it first showed up, I didn't know what it was. I have no idea where it slots into the lineup and what its price point is.

How I appreciate cars like this ... absence makes the heart grow fonder. I just parked next to this. The strength of this car was its sweeping dash that melded with the doors and its thinking out of the box provocative shape. The 3800 V6 could be seen as strong, but I didn't like that it was Series II. I did not care so much for the praying mantis grille.

I wasn't even looking for such photos, but I'm glad they sort of showed up. Ying and yang Take your pick. Chances are you like both of these to the point of being unable to break the tie. That's how I felt. However, for a while, I had a "ying" as a second/project car.

There will be no EV for me until there is a living situation where you can charge it overnight within a short distance from where you are sleeping. That you'd have to charge them on the open road during a trip is understood. Yeah, if it isn't convenient, it isn't worth it. I'd never even consider an EV if I couldn't charge overnight at my home.

About 95% for me. Some of these systems really want to prevent you from speaking to a live person. It made me wonder why everyone was going to jump on the EV boat so early in its infancy. Just getting chargers to the people to make them as useful as ICE ones was going to take a decade at minimum. I think they will continue to grow, but we are going to see a mix of these products going forward. Heck, I still plan to have a mix of both myself. I driven EVs and love them, but I still like my gas powered ones too……

@knightfan26917 believes that something like RWD or FWD, EV or Gas, is something that is a defining characteristic of a nameplate. I don't agree. I don't think that changing which wheels drive the car necessarily ruing the spirit of the nameplate.... maybe on something like a Corvette... but a vehicle like the Riviera or Eldorado has been RWD and FWD and the FWD models are arguably the best ones of the bunch. I'm still miffed at Chevy for not calling the Silverado EV the Avalanche since it is so clearly a design descendant of the name, but Cort would disagree with me there because it's an EV and not gas powered.

It's a bit of a selection bias there. R&D dollars have been poured into EVs over the last 10 years while R&D for ICEs has been drastically cut. I don't remember exactly when it was, but somewhere about 5 or 6 years ago, several automakers including VW and MB came out and said they were no longer developing new engine platforms and were just going to let their current (at the time) engines live out their useful production cycle with minor refinements. Now, I'm sure that policy has changed since then, but it shows where the development dollars were flowing at the time. Additionally, EVs also had the most room for improvement, and selecting 2 years is cherry picking at its worst. Those 2 years ALSO happen to be the switch over from 2nd gen EVs on primarily gas platforms to 3rd gen EVs on dedicated EV platforms. The 4th gen is just starting now with the Stellantis and MB platforms that can easily do both. Walmart is motivated solely by profit and Amazon has already proven that delivery vans with 150 mile range are a perfect use case for home delivery. They aren't providing chargers out of benevolence, they are building charging stations, paid for in large part by state and federal rebate checks, for the primary purpose of powering their home delivery fleet. Amazon may have led the field with mass deployment of EV delivery vans, but Walmart is going a step further in getting tax dollars to build out their infrastructure. I'm sure if it wasn't a requirement of the tax rebates, Walmart would rather you didn't use their chargers at all.
