  1. It had to have been the Ion. What an ugly little car, with a crude interior. I was worried when GM said the Cobalt will be based on the same platform as the Ion, thankfully it was a whole lot better looking. The L-Series did nothing for them either with all the troubles they had, factor in a Relay and Outlook and Sky they never belonged getting and an over-priced Astra we have a failure. Thank God Saturn went instead of Pontiac, my belief was it was going to be one of the two. If Pontiac had gone and Saturn would have stayed I prolly wouldn't be buying a new GM car again.

  2. Why does this matter? Does one have to be a gearhead to own a GM? By your rationale, since the majority of female car owners out there don't fall into your second or third category, and it's the public that speaks for the auto-industry, it's any wonder why there are any performance vehicles at all.

BTW, my wife knows the basics of a car. She can add air or change a tire, check the fluids, understand what the gauges are telling her, all basic essentials. The fact that she didn't know how the internal combustion process powers her car doesn't mean anything. I'm pleased she asked me to describe it to her, but it doesn't mean she wants to go and buy a 300 hp sports sedan.

I was just defending females and some of there knowledge on cars is all.

  3. i like this rendering....a lot. the only part that is excessive and unartful are the rear taillamps, but i don't know a more direct way of connecting pontiac's history. perhaps a simple rectangle which would be less differentiated but still in line with the original firebird. the current rendering shows lamps that are too cartoonish. the front end is sober and aggressive on the same token, simply re-drawing a distinct and extreme charicature the original had that worked and was never overdone, as the firebird became in latter years.

It's too bad there isn't enough money to draw on a rich history of design language pontiac has had.

    Couldn't agree more.

  4. So just chillin' at home today and surfin' the web... went over to Craigslist.com and played around looking at different vehicles for sale. I decided to see what GMCs were listed and found this one:

It's a 2001 GMC Sierra 2500 SLT Extended cab 4WD with 38,400 original miles for $12,900. Is this something I should look into? I'm questioning the 6.0L V8 and 2500 series - if it were a 1500 series with the 5.3L V8 I'd probably not be asking for any advice!! I don't really need a 2500 series, and the 6.0L V8 I think is overkill for my needs. However, for some reason I really like 2000-2002 GMC Sierras the best (maybe because I sold new 1999 & 2000 Sierras), and I love how this truck is equipped (SLT, upgraded polished rims, the two-tone white & pewter, etc). Is the 6.0L V8 too much for me? Are there any problem areas I should know with a 2500?

I figured if I have to buy used, I might as well buy something I like!! I just don't know if a 2500 series pickup is the right one for me. I'll appreciate advice and thoughts on this truck.

Roger I understand your point about not needing a truck. But wanting one. I like trucks and car equally. I had considered a month or so ago a '07 (new style) Silverado 1500 regular cab, long box, LS, with a 4.8 with only 25K on it for 9,200 it was RWD. I wouldn't need a truck but could find a use for one over the summer doing landscaping. If you want that clean 2500 get it and get them to take another thousand off the price and go for it, if thats what you want!

  5. call me chauvenist.

point one. do women (as a whole, not saying their are not hot rod gals out there) GET performance cars like guys do? if so, why is a woman in charge of pontiac? or at least, speaking on its behalf.

point two. oddly enough, the men must be women haters if Saturn and Pontiac are going down. Since both were kinda in charge by women?

There are four types of car ladies...

-Don't know jack $h!... (Toyota buyers because everyone else has one...)

-Know something about vehicles and know the difference between a L4 and a V8... Some might value performance or buying American...

-Have a good knowledge of vehicles and understand hp and torque and value "performance and well styled vehicles"...

-Know as much as any other gear-head or car nut.

I hope Miss Docherty is one of the last two, I assume she is as well. Most ladies fall into the first section I fear. My wife would fall into the second or third. It would drive me nuts being married to a female who is clue-less when it comes to cars. I am glad to hear this but it won't mean anything until 5 year down the road until Pontiac actually has a new products and a "clear plan". I just hope she is right. :unitedstates:

  6. as long as the lefties, greenies, CR bangers, college professors, journalists, uptight rich whiteys, self obsorbed youngsters and trendies, and otherwise confused 'can't make up their mind themselves so someone has to tell them what to buy' set are happy, that means GM must cut their second biggest selling car brand.

I certainly hope not. I don't believe this will happen. On a side note ALOT of young people were at the Pontiac display in Milwaukee and not very many young ones were in the Scion display.

  7. Well if GM has high fixed costs, cutting Pontiac won't make them go away will it? Nope, just less cars to spread those costs over.

Exactly my point. On a side note Scion is nearly dead that is interesting and one Pontiac RWD sports sedan nearly outsold the entire line-up. Hmmmmmmmmmm, sounds like even Toyota has a few "flops".

  8. Wow and here I was thinking I was the only one going to do that (with my Impala). All I need is a nice rock-solid, inexpensive second car to drive in the winter and the equation is complete.

Nope because cars like ours with real motors and OHV's will be long gone someday. It will be worth something just you wait, because not everyone will want a Pri-Ass wanna-be. :unitedstates:

  9. While things may look bleak for perfromance to some of us here to the majority of the public the car is just a way to get to work and the mall.

This is not the last, first, second or third time performance has been under attack. Even if all we have are electric cars someone will have more powerful motors and bigger batteries. We will get throught htis one way or another.

In real life as we age you eather adapt or die. I am too young to die so I plan to adapt. That is why I now drive a 300 HP 4 cylinder, adapting can still be fun.

In time many will tire of the present administration as they will drive cost up with their energy plans and the green movement will not have as much drive. People are good with things till they take a hit in the wallet. Just like truck sales tanks when gas was up. They still love trucks but will abandon them if they have to pay more.

I understand your point, but what they will be building will have no desire to me. I am starting to sound like 68!

  10. If GM files chapter 11 all I see is a stronger GM with less gov't hoops to jump through, because now that the gov't has a hold of GM they will want to make GM build more and more and more hybrid and green cars. Before we know it cars like the CTS, G8, Camaro, Corvette, Solstice will all be a thing of the past. Next will come Sierra, Yukon, Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban you just wait. They ain't even started yet. That is what I fear so enjoy these great cars like the ZR-1, Camaro SS, CTS-V and G8 GXP even Solstice GXP while we have them, if the economy didn't kill demand for products like this the government will. Along with all the "green people" of Al Gore ilk. Just what I want to have happen. The word eight or even six cylinder along with turbo or supercharger will not be in anyones vocabulary anymore. If you think the cars we have suck now, and we bitch and complain about the next DTS/STS being a DT7 and Ep. II based you just wait, because the worst part is not over yet. You wonder why my son or I will be getting a new Camaro SS before they are gone? **There won't be ANOTHER ONE!** 68 someone I thought to be crazy orginally just might be right who needs new cars? Honestly a day will come like it has for 68 for the most part that he won't even consider nor desire current cars out on dealers lots. That day could come for me sooner rather than later. Leave it to Uncle Sam to "fix" Detriot like they have so many over things.

My plan file chapter 11, fire all UAW, blue collar and white collar workers, then hire them all back with reasonable pay and no Union. Sales will suck for a while but then GM would actually have a fighting chance to beat Toyota, because all this bailout is about is saving the Union's ass. I don't think one politican in Washington save for a few really give a rat-ass about the Big Three, if you think they do then your easily fooled. They care about the UNION, and that is what is a large part of GM's problems. GM let the Union have to much and GM must make it right, or sadly they will die.

I am already collecting badges and parts for my SLE so it can be repainted and kept for a classic, I have no doubt I'll do the same for a Camaro. That is how bad I fear it is, my Bonneville will be considered a "gas hog" and harmful to the world. Get ready boys because sales will keep slipping in the industry and we will be in for a load of $h!, what better time for GM to file chapter 11 and loose a few more sales when sales already suck? This bad economic time gives GM a chance for that and not to piss away tons of sales. I promise a stronger and more well balanced GM if chapter 11 is filed, then slam the door on Uncle Sam, government has proved to me they can't run a buisness well and why would I want them to run or "help" GM. Might as well push them into the ground. Thats my view.

  11. I think I've seen the same car a dozen different times. It would be more efficient and less of a bandwidth waste to post of a few pics of the most notable vehicles and then link to the album for those who to look at all those vehicles that are old news by now. Seriously. I doub't very many people are getting hard-ons looking at an ancient Trailblazer. :P

    Lacrosse and Camaro look good.

    Your a smart-a$$.

  12. At least it would be step up from the DTS--maybe even have a 6 speed automatic instead of the ancient 4 speed? But what name--DT7 is lame.

But, a large FWD/AWD Cadillac could be competitive with Lincoln, since the MKS is FWD/AWD.

I happen to agree one traditional large FWD Cadillac isn't a bad idea, provided it has a V8 of some sort and has a six speed automatic standard. I am actually happy, and you know how much I like RWD but I want a balance of the two.
