  2. Beautiful....so is the one that Dodgefan mentioned. Nice work. I had a friend who worked as a consultant that got a fairly long assignment in Helena. She really liked it... and she's very East Coast-big city. They supposedly have a really interesting Catholic church/cathedral there. Funny that names like Virginia City and Nevada City show up there...there is one in NV and CA, respectively. I go to CA's Nevada City every now and then...except that it's a mecca for granolas who work in the funky stores/restaurants.
  3. You can't believe how much I torment myself over not having picked up an Intrigue brand new from a dealership. I like my LaCrosse just fine, but it doesn't have the sleek cat-like looks of the Intrigue. The Intrigue is my favorite car of the last dozen years.

  5. Ok, part II, there was a whirring sound coming from the front of the 92 Regal, 3800 V6, with almost 260,000 miles, that changed with the rpms but did not affect drivability nor economy. I had written down stethoscope for athis Saturday morning's errand. No need. (I was intially thinking pulley, alternator, water pump, p/s pump, or even a minute exhaust leak) Today, driving home from the rail station, the low coolant light came on and off. In fact, last night, at Borders, I noticed some drips in front the car, but no temperature issues. No temperature issues today, either, but that can/will change real soon. There is a coolant leak under the water pump area. That water pump has gone for about 140,000 miles. Ok, so some questions now: (1) UNBELIEVABLE - when I lifted the hood, there was a small linear gash in the under-hood blanket. Then I noticed that the edge of the serpentine belt appeared torn. It was about 10,000 miles old. WTF!!! How does that happen? (I was really lucky last night, driving home from a rural area about 35 miles away when I heard a weird noise). (2) Chicken or egg? Belt (replacement) about 10,000 miles ago affected water pump, or water pump affected belt? (3) Water pump repairs - can't/won't do this on my own. How much is the average R&R for a water pump at (a) a dealer, (b) Firestone/Goodyear, (c ) Pep Boys...or anyone else you recommend. Not having had a repair in about 2 years, I don't have a regular mechanic where I now live. Your advice/input is sought.
  6. Well, see, I was right. If the above posters represent a sample of the buying population, they will sell a lot of them.

  8. I know most people here love the new LaCrosse/Allure...the design, the mechanics, the fit and finish. I know there are a few of us who think it wasn't handled that well and that it's no big deal. I wanted to quantify this with a poll. What's your take on this new car?
  9. Like: - the shape/size of the grille, and the vanes within the grille that fan out - general shape and sweeping design of the dash/console Dislike: - the pointed return of the turn signals, a la BMW - the rear taillamps, a la Toyota Yaris - the chunky and undefined meshing of roofline and deck lid, a la Lexus - the little "hat" on top of the dash instrument cluster, a la Malibu I keep trying, but I don't like this car. I think it will sell, though.

  15. Right...Chrysler and Ford couldn't touch the GM opera-windowed quartet. Their styling was odd. It works with my belief that clean, slab-like styling trumps over bulbous (Cordoba) or overstyled (T-Bird) every time. Yes...a new Riviera would be nice...but a slightly more upright one, where it still looks and smells like a coupe, but people can get into the back seat easily without having to train as astronauts.

  21. I'll be stuck there...no problem. My '84 Cutlass Brougham coupe was more comfortable on long interstate trips than anything I've had since then. My 2 newer cars have been more reliable, though.
  22. When I was in grad school at U of I, everyone got weirded out when the sky got real dark in the afternoon. I would be looking for some kind of authorized underground shelter! Great pics.
  23. I was looking around at pictures of mid-80s Cutlass Supreme coupes today. They were beautiful...from every angle. For at least 10 years, 1976-1986 +/-, no other car captured the heart of America the way this car did. That's why they were everywhere. Do you think there will ever be another mid-size personal luxury coupe? Can't the market handle just one...either at a Cutlass Supreme price point or a Riv/Toro/Eldo price point? Or is this a matter of timing where the market has to take a break from this genre and then come back to it? What do you think?
