  1. What's with these upgrades? Midas Touch with the people at the counter or something? Wow.
  2. Do you have weird requests for food orders that raise eyebrows or elicit sighs from the wait staff or order takers for fast food? Here's a couple of mine: 1. Beverage: 50/50 mix of regular Coke and Diet Coke 2. Bevarage: "easy ice," to get more content, ideally 3. Onions withheld on anything that would have them as a condiment 4. Heavy pickles, olives and tomatoes on anything that would have them as a condiment 5. Side of bleu cheese for dipping my fries (without fail at Bob's Big Boy restaurants) Do you have any such requests (or quirks)?
  3. Ok, I thought about this after my last vacation. I had Grand Prixs back to back in both FL and Atlanta, putting 1,700 miles on the first and 600 on the second one. (I took the Florida car to beautiful Pensacola and back). I've also rented about 10 other Grand Prixs, putting at least 700 miles on each one. When added up, it occurred to me I've exceeded 10,000 miles in rented Grand Prixs. Heck, getting into one and knowing all about them is so reflexive, that if I were to buy one it would be a "non-event." What types of rental "sleds" do you seem to get into most often?
  4. WTFMy reply to thread: sweet potato a staple of Southern cooking
  5. Yeah, it would also mean that it would be more likely that residents of Miami, FLL and Palm Beach County's western suburbs might be more likely to have alligators floating in their back yards...another undesirable side effect

  7. designergood job on the spelling, reflecting the good breeding / sheepskin I give you grief for. :AH-HA_wink:

  13. I knew it!!! As soon as I read the headline on MSN, I knew someone on C&G would capitalize on this and that it could very well be reg. Wow. Hard to believe that Marcia and Jan bump(ed) p*s*y. It's hard to close one's eyes and visualize that...not because they're unattractive, but rather because they are Bradys. And, if you grew up in a squeaky clean split-level, yet very dated, home perched against the backdrop of the SFV's rim, and in a "nuclear family" to boot, you're just not supposed to do something like that. And isn't there a book some opportunist is putting out / put out about Anna Nicole that claims she or someone else walked in on some encounter between the "real" father of Danielynn (what's his name) and the ultra-nerdy Howard K. Stern? (So glad the latter had "egg on his face" when it was revealed he was NOT the papa). Now, is that crap, or what? Munch that carpet, baby!!!
  14. Ditto. I thought they were cool and goofy at the same time. I would have bought one, but liked the Regal coupe more. They look great in "Maui Blue" more so than in any other color, IMO. Why are they lingering on lots... or elsewhere? I always assumed someone out there would want to scoop these up, given their relative rarity.
  15. abstinence ...please

  17. Someone explain to me why he comes over here and goes to speak at an Ivy League school when the messages he sends are clearly antagonistic. Why did he come here? Aren't we currently in some kind of a "cold war" with Iran, anyway. Why was he even let in? I was sitting there running on the elliptical last night watching Christiane Amanpour (she's a trip, isn't she?) talk about it but without sound.
  18. See, this teenager is smarter than most of us!How goes it Chargerino? Interestingly enough, they have measured the "mean" tide level around Florida. In the last century, the surface level of the sea has risen by 8", IIRC. They are predicting that, in this century, it should rise by anywhere between 8" and 16", depending on contributing factors.
  19. Prices are set independently of the exchange rates, reflecting what is going on in their country. Canadian wages and prices have always run at about 1.15 to 1.30 of what we pay/spend, that's why the $23K base price for the LaCrosse/Allure in the US is $27K in Canada. That our currency deflated against theirs is completely independent of that. It doesn't change what they pay/spend. It's just that it's a pain when you go over there and get the hotel/restaurant bills. Same thing in Europe. A hotel room in Portugal that costs 60 Euro is supposed to more or less reflect a value of about 60 dollars, given the wage/price levels. However, currencies move independently. Take that "bad boy" and multiply it by 1.40. Right now, it will cost us Americans about 84 dollars. My last trip to Europe was a disaster because of the weak dollar.
  20. implode watching those planned building implosions is cool
  21. Yeah, since they didn't make the US News and World Report Top 50 Ranking, of course I'm put off. Ha ha ha.
  22. There is indeed a lot of gratification from raising kids. I don't have to have any to know that. I just talk to my friends who do have them. And some of these kids have turned out great.However... It's a vastly different experience when they grow up in a "nuclear family" as opposed to a divorced household. I think that the "nuclear family" may experience more joy around child rearing (though "nuclear households" have produced some really dysfunctional children). My parents do NOT get good marks....I have raised myself, unfortunately. However, when there is a 58% divorce rate out there (+/-), it's an experience I can do without. In that case, there is no way I want to write a check or transfer money for a kid that doesn't sit at my breakfast table on a more or less full-time basis. Since this is a public and relatively anonymous forum, I have no problem voicing this opinion. However, in an office setting, I keep it to myself as it does not make me popular....and I already know I'm NOT very popular here.
  23. Response to thread:gone (and isn't it great...the most successful thread ever on C&G was started by a 13 year old)
  24. Ah, yes...comparatively speaking, La-la-land IS quiet. The numbers don't lie! Part of the reason is: NYC's 5 boroughs: 7.4 million people - approx. 330 sq. mi. Los Angeles, within city limits: 3.8 million people - approx. 460 sq. mi. And, BTW, it can be 72 degrees and mild in the middle of January.
  25. Usually agree with these guys, but not this time. I say make a move, but not to NYC. It could set you back financially as you shell out for the high set up costs. I'd say Philly for you; heck, you could go to NY as much as you wanted on the train...it's a mere 95 miles up the road. Or, another major city, but not NY as a starter.Agree with the latter part. Moving away makes you more "wordly" (ouch, I said that word, slap my wrist) as you will grow up faster and know how to handle yourself around different kinds of people, because your survival will depend on it. NYC is more sensory overload than you need, just look at all the Islanders and Jerseyites who prefer to keep it at a distance. When I wanted to leave the nest, and I had a completed college degree AND a professional certification in hand, I chose to go to Atlanta rather than deal with a "rat race" type Northeastern city. And it was the best decision I ever made. The "ballsier" people may head for NY or Boston....more power to them. However, ATL, Dallas, Houston and PHX seem to be much easier places for those leaving the nest or finishing school to settle into because of the lower density and lower costs. But, it's up to you, and you will make the decision from your gut. That's what I did.
