  8. Democrats probably will not get 60 Senate seats. They would therefore not be immune to filibusters and have free rein.

  10. A mileage-based tax would be one of the best ways to fund roads and highways. However, the privacy issues of in-vehicle black boxes need to be overcome. As vehicle fuel economy improves, and alternative energy sources become more mainstream, the funding shortage will only get worse, and paying per mile traveled would be the most fair way. Transportation is one of the fundamental services of government, and it needs to have an adequate funding source that cannot be siphoned off for other purposes. The Highway Trust Fund has largely worked well. The amount going in has just not kept up with inflation and the needs. With the huge drop in demand for gas from the increased cost, the amount of money going into the Highway Trust Fund decreased, leading to unfunded highway projects. That's why the Congress had to put $8 billion from the general fund into it recently.

  12. Eight years ago on election night, Florida was called for Gore, and all seemed good in the world. The next morning came the truly stomach-churning news that Florida then belonged to Bush. It was no surprise that four years of incompetence followed, and the country was driven into the ground. Four years ago, a hapless Kerry ran an inept campaign, and Bush was given the opportunity to continue to drive the country into the ground. Why anybody would want to continue that trajectory of the country is totally beyond me.
  13. The long, national nightmare in America will soon be over. Obama is too pragmatic to lead the country to a sharp left, though Congress will try to steer there.

  18. I've driven several hundred miles in the original Prius, and shorter test drives in the current Prius and Camry Hybrid. These are obviously not cars bought for driving dynamics. For daily urban commutes, they are fine. If I were to buy a new car now, the Prius would be near the top of the list.

  22. What's not to like? With a formal grille, opera windows, and Cadillac Deville taillights, it's a modern classic.
  23. Isn't the CTS Coupe the worst offender? I don't have a problem with short decks. In fact, if it improves aerodynamics, I'm all for it.
