  1. Pontiac needs a car like this stat. The new Pontiac performance for the future, a well rounded lineup of performance cars. I love that interior, exterior is great too. There's a big market for this kind of car, with the right street cred and performance Pontiac could sell a lot. Maybe no more than 30-40k/yr, but it'd still be cool to replace the G5 with something young kids actually like.

Exactly. BTW I really like the interior but I doubt I would want it in a car I would buy.

I actually like the simple functionality of the Cobalt SS Supercharged interior better. Seriously.

  2. Umm. It's a Camaro. GM should be putting that kind of exceptional effort to make it great.

Let's not have 'em break an arm patting themselves on the back, yet.

When marketshare rises, then they'll be worried. Until then, GM's renaissance is in it's infancy.

Actually...I might get flamed for this but here goes. My concept of a great G.M. is a smaller company that builds really great premium vehicles at a real profit and gets loyal customers for life. They make a whole lot more on one CTS or Z-06 or H-2 than they do on a Cobalt or an Ion.

Part of being profitable is doing things that otyhers aren't. Spending huge effort to compete in overcrowded segments may not be the most profitable thing for G.M.

BTW, Part of the cool thing about this being in its infancy is that we are around to watch it happen from the start.

  3. This is just like a guy i work with said he saw a japanese kid driving a Supercharged Cobalt SS.....I told him You will never see that happen.

Too bad. The Cobalt SS is a great car...and I am thinking about one as a DD for my wife next year when we get a new car.

As for the asian kid in the story...Just more Si's that will see the Cobalt's two sets of round taillights. :pokeowned:

  4. One more thought:

$hit like this pisses me off so much for the fact taht the car hobby is

awsome in many ways but one of the best things abotu it is how it

brings people together. People of all races, religions, & of different

political, economic & social status enjoy cars and we are all on a

level playing field when the hobby is discussed.

I've sold car parts on ebay to places all over the world. once time

I sold K-car Imperial emblems to a guy in south Australia, Pontiac

emblems to France, Switzerland & Hungary, Impala emblems to a

girl in finland and buick parts to Saudi Arabia, a GM fanatic in Israel

bought a few Monte Carlo emblems off me while a guy in bahrain

    needed parts for his Cadillac...

Cars are supposed to tear down walls not put up new ones. <_<

    Thanks capt. obvious. :P

And in the same way Opel had a gun to its head after 1938.

I like this approach to the hobby. Too many people talk $hit on the internet or in print and don't know what they are talking about.

Besides, no one has brought up the U.S. auto industry's role in building things like the B-24 liberator that put the Nazi's down forever.

  5. Actually I am not a huge monte fan but I like it because it is clean and modern from a visual standpoint. Dislike the interior of that car, tho.

As for the Civic it is very different and I kind of like it but I like the Golf Gti, Mazda 3, Mini Cooper S, etc. a little better.

  6. Actually to me a smaller car is safer because I feel like I can avoid bad situations more easily. Being able to stop/steer/react is what driving on the street is about to me.

I've seen some bunched up 3's and Cobalts in yards. Seems like the passenger compartment stays pretty intact. Wouldn't bother me to buy either car.

  7. Reg... I wouldn't mind a stick, but in areas like Long Island/NYC, you'd probably get exhausted using one. Rush hour traffic would just make it that much more frustrating to have to operate another pedal and go in and out first and second... accompanied by the frequent panic stops on the LIE you'd have to endure.

It'd be nice to save a little money by buying a stick, get a bit better fuel economy, but in my area, it wouldn't pay. I had a friend who bought a 99 Eclipse Turbo, with a manual... LOVED IT. He loved driving that thing--but when it came time to commuting in and out of Staten Island to NJ every day, he was finding it tiring to be stuck in dead-stop traffic (where you can shift into Park). My friend who bought a 2005 Corolla LE (I tried people, I tried), could not even find one in stick... he was forced to take an auto... his first automatic since his Buick Skylark back in the 80's.

Actually I lived for a year in Atlanta, which is just about as bad for traffic. I don't know why but I prefer a stick for stop and go driving. Must just be odd.

  8. I just had a brand-new Fusion SE L4 as a rental (7 miles on it when I got it) and what a fabulous little cheap midsize sedan.

    I loved it.

Great interior fit-and-finish and material quality, attractive exterior, smooth and responsive powertrain, and impressive content for a "base" model rental (steering-wheel radio controls, foglights, power driver's seat, full intrumentation, 6-disc CD changer, alloy wheels.

Ford is doing more right than most people give them credit for. While I wouldn't buy a Fusion I do lust after the departed SVT Focus.

  9. Legacy GT

    Altima

    Mazda 6

    Accord

Everything else is a wash to me.

Notice what all 4 of those have in common: can be had with a decently powerful engine mated to a standard tranny.

I love the NG Malibu's interior, and from what I've seen, the exterior is sharp as well. I sure wouldn't mind a Malibu SS with a 6 speed. Too bad that will never happen.

I've been lurking here for quite awhile and I enjoy all of your comments. This is a great board!

Personally the above would be my list, but I'd add the G6. I prefer manual tranny but On-Star would be a big consideration for my wife who would be driving it long distances.
