  1. C'mon, you know better. Yes, I want to see American-style cars being built right here, but in the meantime I'll take what I can get from an American corporation even if it is built elsewhere. No FWD Camry wannabes will ever be in my future. The domestics have a lot of work to do getting back to building genuine American cars, when they get there, I'll be waiting to buy one.
  2. Bite your tongue, Fly! I'd say more like a used 4th gen F-body, a GTO, or a '77 wagon. :AH-HA_wink:
  3. No, and I wouldn't call them crumbs. The V8 is an American one as you well know. Holden just wraps it in a package that is more American than all of the japanese- wannabe designs our domestics have been churning out since the 80s. Someone remembered how to build an American car - it just happens that the "someone " is Australian.
  4. While I agree that better small cars are needed, I don't see them as a viable, long-term answer. And in any case, I will never buy one. Fuel economy isn't the answer either, alternative fuels and propulsion are - that's where we need to focus our efforts. We will never conserve our way to energy independence.
  5. The first order of business should be to shed the notion that the rest of the world can do a better job automatically. Americans should innovate, not compromise or accept the defeatist notion that we "can't". The existing "coping mechanisms" (especially in Europe) aren't acceptable to me - I won't accept that we have to drive tiny tin can cars just because "that's how Europe does it". We can, and should, do better than that.
  6. Americans shouldn't "think like the rest of the world" , they should think like Americans.
  7. Exactly true. BTW Enzl, I am not ignorant in the least. I see quite a few valid reasons for optimism and none for your brand of fatalism. Concern yes, but not wholesale negativism.
  8. Rotten bastards!
  9. And, incrementally, my interest in new cars will disappear.
  10. I guess that I just see these as the new minivan, the basic shape and configuration hold no appeal for me.
  11. It's obvious that these choices reflect each of our different situations and sets of priorities. For me, I buy the trucks new as I want to get exactly the right tool for the job. The performance coupes I buy new to avoid the mistreatment many owners subject these cars to, and to get exactly what I want. Anything else - used is just fine, or even preferable. For instance, I can't see spending 10-15k on an economy car when I could get something much better equipped and enjoyable for the same money or less.
  12. Saw a couple of points of interest at the Wawa this morning. The first was a very clean 5.0 Mustang notchback that sounded great. I haven't seen one of those in a long time, although they were everywhere in the late 80s /early 90s. The second was a Highlander plastered with Marine Corps stickers, the driver got out wearing a Marine Corps T-shirt with "University of Vietnem" on the back.
  13. Just to expand a bit: Sedans - Why would I spend new-car-money on that? If I needed a "family " car , it would be a used one. Minivans - Under no circumstances would I buy one. SUVs - More than I need 99% of the time, since I always have a truck. An Avalanche is a possibility at some point though. Crossovers - see minivan Economy cars - I'd rather walk. Wagons - none on the market that are worth the price to me. Magnum is an "almost"
  14. I have only ever bought two types: Trucks Performance Coupes And once, I got to combine the two. :AH-HA_wink: I really don't see that changing. Except, possibly, for the Volt.
  15. Haha! Something like that. You saw that crazy place when you were here didn't you?
  16. Don't hold your breath Fly, Enzl doesn't know how to be positive. :AH-HA_wink:
  17. Part of the problem? That's a shot of my neighbor's McMansion taken a few minutes ago. Every room in the house is lit, and all of the bright lights you see are outdoor spots. The picture doesn't convey just how bright this house is, lights are also trained on all of the walls of the house. I can see individual bricks in the chimney from here. I took this pic from my yard - about 1/4 mile away.
  18. I don't give a rat's ass what any media says about him. The Americans held hostage for over a year in Tehran say this guy was one of the hostage takers - and that's good enough for me. This also means that he invaded U.S. territory in an armed attack ( the embassy in Tehran). Therefore, he is an enemy combatant and should have no rights here. Arrest the bastard, I say.
  19. Saw the Isuzu version of the Colorado yesterday - the first one I've ever seen on the road.
  20. Hmm, the Blazer got "tippy"? More like the driver was "tipsy".
  21. Really?
  22. I certainly didn't seem that way when I was in Pittsburgh.
  23. Very cool. I can see that the Suburban was the right choice for you. :AH-HA_wink:
  24. The man is a terrorist and hostage-taker, he should be arrested and charged as such if he steps beyond the UN's diplomatic zone. I'd happily push him over the line.
