HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA SETS ALL-TIME NOVEMBER SALES RECORD • Retail Sales up 85 percent • Total Volume up 45 percent • Hyundai First to Report 40-mpg Vehicle Sales FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., 12/01/2010 Hyundai Motor America today announced an all-time record for November sales of 40,723 units, up 45 percent versus 2009. November retail sales were up 85 percent from last year. For the year-to-date, Hyundai has already established a new annual sales record with total volume of 493,426, up 23 percent versus the same 11 month period in 2009, with retail sales up 33 percent for the same period. Fleet sales mix for the month of November was 11 percent. “We are encouraged by a second consecutive month of strengthening industry retail sales. With Hyundai’s rapidly expanding lineup of fresh, fuel-efficient and high quality products, we’re positioned right in the sweet spot for this recovery,” said Dave Zuchowski, executive vice president of sales, Hyundai Motor America. “Hyundai’s DNA is all about delivering best-in-class value, quality and fuel efficiency. We are equally committed to providing customers with a memorable retail experience as was recently reflected in our improved position in the rankings of the 2010 J.D. Power and Associates U.S. Sales Satisfaction Index (SSI), where Hyundai was the most improved brand in the industry and the top-ranked Asian brand. We have aggressive plans in place to sustain this momentum into December and leverage a healthy holiday selling season to finish out this record-breaking year with a flourish.” With the first 192 sales of Hyundai’s all-new 2011 Elantra already recorded this month, Hyundai begins a new sales-reporting methodology it hopes all brands in the industry will follow. “The 2011 Elantra is the first of four planned 40-mpg vehicles in Hyundai’s lineup,” said John Krafcik, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor America. “But for us, leadership isn’t how many low-volume special-edition 40-mpg models we offer, but rather how many 40-mpg vehicles consumers actually buy. We aim to lead the industry in the sales of 40-mpg vehicles, and to make this a challenge that everyone can follow, we’ll be the first to report our monthly 40-mpg vehicle sales tally. We’d love to see others follow our lead.” Elantra, Sonata, and Tucson sales for November increased 41 percent, 72 percent, and 243 percent respectively, while Genesis achieved an all-time sales record of 3,005 units, up 72 percent, marking the 17th consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases for Hyundai’s award-winning premium car. Genesis will be joined by Equus, Hyundai’s all-new flagship, in dealership in December. Leading into the close of the year, November 2010 sales of Audi cars and SUVs not only marked the eighth record month of 2010, but also comes on the heels of the best-ever October U.S. sales for new and certified pre-owned vehicles in Audi U.S. sales history. The November results keep the German luxury automaker on track to set a vehicle sales record in the U.S. by year-end. The existing annual sales record for Audi in the U.S. is 93,506 vehicles sold in 2007. For November, Audi sold 9,365 vehicles, a 37.5% increase over the 6,810 vehicles sold in November 2009. Year-to-date in November 2010 Audi new sales rose more than 20% versus its prior year-to-date total of 73,686 vehicles sold. Audi has enjoyed significant sales growth across all U.S. regions as November 2010 marks four consecutive record-setting months for sales. In particular, a new all-time Southern regional sales record has been achieved, with vehicle sales currently standing at 21,351 for the year. Additionally, November marked the debut of sales for the highly anticipated and redesigned 2011 Audi A8 flagship model – the most technologically-advanced vehicle Audi has ever produced – with 310 vehicles already sold (on top of 23 2010 Audi A8 models for the month). November 2010 Audi A3 U.S. sales not only jumped 102% over 2009 as consumers continue to demand the Audi A3 TDI clean diesel, which is the reigning 2010 Green Car of the Year, but also represent the best November for the Audi A3 in company history. Audi A3 TDI clean diesel models accounted for nearly 70% of vehicles sold in the A3 line. In addition, the Audi Q7 full-size luxury crossover sales rose by 500 units when compared to November 2009. “It is no surprise that Audi continues to remain in the coveted pole position within the luxury vehicle market with an exceptionally strong brand identity and superior vehicle offerings,” said Audi of America Chief Operating Officer Mark Del Rosso. The gains were the result of balanced contributions from Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac cars, crossovers and trucks. With sales for GM’s four brands up 22 percent through November, GM is on track to gain market share for the year. November retail sales for the company’s brands rose 20 percent compared to a year earlier. “Each brand came to the party in November,” said Don Johnson, vice president, U.S. sales operations. “These results show that our brands continue to gain momentum with consumers who want stylish, fuel-efficient vehicles.” During the month, combined sales of the Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain and Cadillac SRX increased 56 percent, while the combined sales for the Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Chevrolet Traverse rose 38 percent versus last year. Combined, GM’s crossovers improved 39 percent during the month, and are up 51 percent year to date. Combined sales of the Chevrolet Avalanche, Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size pickups increased 16 percent for the month and are 16 percent higher year to date, compared to 2009. Passenger car deliveries increased 17 percent during November, driven by improving demand for the Chevrolet Cruze (8,066 unit sales) and Buick Regal (1,979 unit sales). Strong increases from Chevrolet Aveo (up 47 percent), Chevrolet Impala (up 19 percent) and Buick LaCrosse (up 20 percent) also helped drive the year-over-year improvement. “November sales results are consistent with our expectations and show that the plan we laid out earlier this year to steadily grow in the U.S. market is working,” Johnson said. Sales for GM’s four brands have increased 22 percent through November, while the industry has increased approximately 11 percent. Month-end dealer inventory in the U.S. stood at about 536,000 units, which is about 21,000 higher compared to October, and about 98,000 higher than November 2009.
