  1. I'd just like to have a reasonable amount of power by modern standards, in the range of 250 - 350 hp and a mpg suitible for long distance travel, yet in one of the old E or K bodies I like. I'm not particular about cylinder counts, i.e. I think even the 2.0t from the ATS coupe would be fine performance wise. Basically a fairly modern daily driver in an older body.
  2. Modern fuel efficiency things, smog legal, etc. Is like to have a modern power train in a Toronado, Eldorado or Seville.
  3. can you get a modern "built" B-O-P engine with fuel injection and all that stuff?
  4. Yes, or a LS motor in a Tesla. I said wacky, not crazy....
  5. great explanation BV. I am not in a position to look it up, are the Subaru 6es direct injection?
  6. I'd still like to try something wacky someday after I win the powerball... like putting the 2.0T from the ATS into an '85 Eldorado
  7. Welcome to C&G!
  8. FAIL! I see no way to hook this up to classic FWD vehicles ;-)
  9. it's not a 4/6/8 engine (that was an 8-6-4 anyway) it is that there will be 6 cylinder and 4 cylinder variants of the V8. GM already does variable displacement engines, but that isn't what they are talking about here. Also, he posted this article today, but I think it is almost a certainty that the CT6 is going to be at NY and has been known for some time to be there. It won't be at chicago, that show has gotten a bit "small" in releases the past few years. This article affirms my opinion that the CT6 is not going to be the flagship ultimately. It will be to the CTS what the A7 is to the A6.
  10. Only 243,000 miles to go till GM gives you a gold plaque or something
  11. Really, we must be styling polar opposite. I think the 3 is easily the best looker in the group. I like the Cruze too, but not for its looks
  12. Why? Every 3 row out there comes with a base engine with less than 300 hp, and except for the Durango, none have more than 360hp. A Turbo 2.0 and turbo 2.5 can cover that range.
  13. I'd put it another way... the margins between those cars are so slim that it comes down to driver skill and how many miles are on the tires. On an actual track, it would come down to driver skill.
  14. Never say never. I could see them using it as a rolling change in a future year or with the addition of the coupe It will be good news but I doubt it. I can see GM middle execs making business case of not having one. I wanted to see the 7-speed being used on more applications, given how marvelous it is. We'll ask Donny when we see him.
  15. The other thing I forgot to mention. Subaru's 6-cylinder only puts out about 260 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque and it has a low take rate. Almost any 2.0T can hit those numbers easily, so why should Subaru shoulder the cost of an extra engine line? By offering a less expensive upgraded engine, Subaru can probably talk more people into paying for it while Subaru also gets lower development costs.
  16. It makes sense. Most everyone can get 300 hp out of a 2.0T these days... GM was doing it 8 years ago. GM has a 1.6T that can do 200 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque in Europe that will eventually make its way to the US, Ford's 1.6T makes 180 hp and 180 lb-ft, the 2.3T makes Northstar V8 like numbers but does so at a lower RPM. The main reason for wanting a V6 or I6 is for smoothness and refinement, but that doesn't really apply to an H-6 like Subaru's
  17. Happy Birthinday!
  18. Its silly to even think of "an American luxury sedan" competition when the ones that they need to worry about are all foreign. Furthermore I wish people would be more ENTHUSIAST acting on these sites and understand that 0-60 is the dumbest thing in the world to judge a car carrying over 350HP, let alone over 600. 1/4 Mile is the measurement, and at a point we will have to veer off from even that as the more power these cars get the less likely they are gonna be able to depart from going further below the 3 sec runs. Other things, like chassis refinement, proper launching mechanisms, better tire technology etc are going to also be needed. Its one of the reasons why the 707HP Charger/Chall is probably gonna be slower to 60 when the comparisons are done to cars with only 650. Hell if U look at the numbers, even the 580 ZL1 isn't far off its 0-60 numbers. Hence the reason why the Charger HC can pull 11.8 sec @ 124.3 mph, .5sec less, and 9mph more than the ZL1, but its insignificant 0-60 is 3.7 vs the 3.9 by the ZL1. That's with over 127 more hp. Hence me loving the engine.. but not even remotely impressed with the car It's actually pretty dumb to judge even everyday cars by. People like SMK wander around talking about how the lastest family sedan will never sell because it gets to 60 0.5 seconds slower than the Accord V6 manual... when the vast majority of buyers don't care. Or like when I get questioned on my purchase of an Encore because it is slow (it is, if I were racing it) but around town it is geared to feel zippy. Unless you are actively racing a car on a drag strip, none of these measurements matter, and the only time to bring it up is if a car is slow enough to be dangerous in traffic.
  19. Never say never. I could see them using it as a rolling change in a future year or with the addition of the coupe
  20. Did you say the same thing for the 850i? Because it was precisely 26hp more while being slower to 60 by 1.1 sec, yet costing a little more. It was out-handled and out-stopped by the wealthy man's Accord coupe. For its time when it was introduced, the NSX was a precision knife. The problem was that Acura let it rot while others zoomed past it. 15 years is a long time for a car without major updates. burn..
  21. I can't quite pt my finger on why this looks more "wagon" than say, the Grand Cherokee, but it does. When I see it in person in a couple weeks, I'll update my opinion. All of the manufactureres are offering wifi these days, I'm curious to see what the take rate or subscription rate is after the car leaves the trial period.
  22. I wonder how different this will look in person. I'm seeing more and more wagon as I look at the pictures. I just caught a glimpse of this out of the corner of my eye on the front page and thought to myself "Oh, did William put up an article about some Subaru Legacy sport wagon that I didn't see yet?!"
  23. ugh... merge wasn't the right answer, but I got it all fixed
