My wife drives a 2005 STS bought new that year. $53,000.00 got every option minus sunroof. With 28,000 miles it is flawless. You can light up the factory Michelens while still getting a great hole shot. The 320HP Northstar gets 15/26 mpg and you have to look at the Tach to tell if its running. It is a head turner and my 2005 Corvette does not shame it. :smilies-38096:
Welcome to C&G. The STS actually had a sales increase this month. It's a shame it's in its final months.

Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) today reported January 2011 sales of 5,714 units, an increase of 37 percent compared to January 2010. "We are pleased with the steady growth in sales of our Outlander Sport," said MMNA President & CEO Shin Kurihara. "As we expected, the impetus provided by this all-new crossover SUV has gotten our year off to a very good start."
Outlander Sport sales were 1,065 in January, which is an increase of 10 percent over the prior month (December 2010). Outlander Sport sales have grown in each of its four months of sales since its introduction last October.
Other January sales highlights include:

Best January Since 2008
ATLANTA, February 2, 2011--Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), importer and distributor of Porsche sports cars, Cayenne SUVs and the Panamera Gran Turismo line-up in the United States, today announced January sales of 2,400, a 34 percent increase compared to the same period in 2010 when it sold 1,786.
January's results signify Porsche's strongest calendar-year start since 2008 and also represent the German car company's eighth-consecutive month in which it has posted double or triple digit monthly sales increases over the year previous. Porsche finished calendar year 2010 nearly 30 percent ahead of 2009.
"Beginning the year where we left off in 2010 is encouraging and another sign that the Porsche brand is continuing its momentum in the U.S market," said Detlev von Platen, PCNA's President and CEO. "Obviously, our goal is to maintain this trend in 2011."
From a model standpoint, Porsche's results were again led by high market demand for the new Cayenne. Porsche's newly designed SUV has enjoyed strong market momentum since its initial launch last summer, and in January sales for the Cayenne were 1,047 compared to 590 in 2010, an increase of 77 percent.
Also of note in January was the continuing market success of Porsche's four-door Panamera Gran Turismo with sales of 604 for the month, compared to 534 the year prior, up 13 percent from a year ago.
Porsche's mid-engine sport cars enjoyed substantial gains this past month. Porsche's Boxster sales in January were 186, compared to 80 in 2010, an increase of 133 percent. Cayman was up 61 percent with January sales of 127 versus last year's mark of 79. Total 911 sales for the month were 436 versus 503 during the same period in 2010
Also in January, Porsche's Approved Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) cars enjoyed sales of 565 versus 546 during the same period in 2010.

BMW Group U.S. Reports January 2011 Sales
BMW brand sales up 20.8%
MINI sales up 22.4%
Woodcliff Lake, NJ – February 1, 2011… The BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) reported January sales of 18,656 vehicles, an increase of 21.1 percent from the 15,410 vehicles sold in the same month a year ago.
"The combination of strong December sales and miserable weather in many areas provided a real challenge for January," said Jim O'Donnell, President and CEO of BMW of North America, LLC. "On the other hand, the new BMW X3 and MINI Countryman played a strong role in January's percentage gain even though both continue building up their model range, which we will see in the next couple of months."
BMW Brand Sales
Sales of BMW brand vehicles increased 20.8 percent in January for a total of 15,905 compared to 13,163 vehicles sold in January, 2010.
In January, best performing vehicles included the new X3 SAV – officially on sale in the U.S. for only two weeks - up 273.3 percent to 1,075 units; the 5 Series, up 76.2 percent to 4,350 units and the X5, up 23.6 percent to 3,038 units. The BMW SAV segment (X3, X5, X6) continues to show important growth with sales up 42.8 percent from the previous January.
BMW Pre-Owned Vehicles
In January, sales of BMW used vehicles (including certified pre-owned and pre-owned) increased 1.7 percent to 11,650 vehicles from the 11,451 vehicles sold in January 2010.

• Ford's F-Series truck registers 30 percent sales increasePERCENT INCREASE IN JANUARY RETAIL SALES
DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 1, 2011 – Consumer demand for Ford's full family of cars, utilities and trucks continued to grow in January, as retail sales climbed 27 percent versus a year ago. Retail sales for cars grew 35 percent, 22 percent for utilities and 24 percent for trucks.
Ford's total sales in January (including sales to fleet customers) were 127,317, up 13 percent. Total sales comparisons included a planned 27 percent decline in sales to daily rental companies and the discontinuation of the Mercury brand.
"We begin 2011 in a strong position – ready to meet the needs of a wide range of customers with a full portfolio of high-quality, fuel-efficient vehicles," said Ken Czubay, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. "We're off to a great start in 2011 with the largest January retail sales increase in more than a decade."
Cars
Fiesta posted January sales of 4,270. In 2010, Fiesta played a key role in helping Ford to achieve its highest retail share in California since 2006. The Los Angeles region continues to be the top-selling region for Ford's smallest new car.
Focus retail sales increased 41 percent. The Focus and Fiesta combined to boost the company's small car retail sales to a level almost double a year ago (up 99 percent). The all-new Focus arrives in dealerships this spring.
"Higher gasoline prices are factoring into vehicle purchase decisions," said Czubay. "Ford Motor Company is leading the way for consumers with the best or among the best fuel economy with every new vehicle we introduce. We also have four vehicles with 40 mpg or higher fuel economy – Fiesta, Focus, Fusion Hybrid and Lincoln MKZ Hybrid – more than any other automaker."
Fusion – Ford's popular midsize sedan – set a January sales record of 14,346, up 18 percent. Fusion retail sales were up 39 percent. In 2010, Fusion set a full year sales record of 219,219 – the first time since 2004 a Ford car has eclipsed the 200,000 milestone.
Ford Mustang retail sales were up 17 percent, and Lincoln MKZ retail sales increased 42 percent. In January, the new MKZ Hybrid accounted for 24 percent of MKZ retail sales – the highest since it was introduced in October.
Utilities
In January, the all-new 2011 Explorer was the fastest-turning Ford vehicle on the showroom floor. Recently named North American Truck of the Year, the 2011 Explorer offers customers full SUV capability with superior ride and handling, plus class-leading fuel economy. Explorer sales totaled 7,351, up 73 percent. Retail sales were more than triple year-ago levels (up 244 percent).
Ford Escape set a January record with total sales of 13,973, up 30 percent versus a year ago. In 2010, Escape set a full-year sales record of 191,026.
The redesigned 2011 Ford Edge posted a 36 percent increase in retail sales.
Trucks
Ford F-Series checked in with January sales of 35,806, up 30 percent. In 2010, F-Series sales totaled 528,349, up 28 percent versus 2009. In the commercial fleet market, where Ford's 'Built Tough' reputation is put to the test every day, F-Series outsells its nearest competitor by almost
2-to-1 based on 2010 November calendar-year-to-date registrations. F-Series has been the best-selling truck in America for 34 years in a row and the best-selling vehicle, car or truck, for 29 straight years.
Ford's Econoline and Transit Connect vans captured more than 60 percent of the commercial van market in 2010. In January, Econoline sales totaled 7,979, up 29 percent versus a year ago. Transit Connect sales totaled 2,072, up 78 percent.
Ford had six of the top eight vehicles registered to commercial fleet customers in 2010 and an industry-leading 38 percent share of the commercial fleet market, based on November calendar-year-to-date registrations.
"In addition to industry-leading quality and fuel efficiency, our broad range of products offer fleet customers strong resale values," said Czubay. "Resale value is a key factor in reducing vehicle operating costs, which puts Ford in a strong position as businesses continue to replace or add to their vehicle fleets."

Volkswagen of America Announces Stable January Sales
Company reports a dramatic 51 percent increase in TDI sales and ramps up for six exciting new model introductions in 2011; Jetta sales up 28 percent
HERNDON, Va., February 1, 2011 -- Volkswagen of America, Inc. today reported 18,401 units sold in January 2011, a 2.1 percent increase over prior year sales. TDI Clean Diesel sales were up 51 percent over January 2010; and Jetta sales were up 28 percent, lead by the all-new Jetta.
"We are pleased to see our new products such as Jetta and Touareg doing so well in the market," said Mark Barnes, Chief Operating Officer, Volkswagen of America, Inc. "Because of that success, we are seeing some product shortages on key models that affected our sales in January."
The global best-selling Golf is enjoying renewed popularity in the U.S. with sales up 69 percent compared to January 2010. The recently redesigned Touareg saw a 58 percent increase; its hybrid, TDI and gasoline offerings prove appealing to consumer desire for multiple powertrain options.
Volkswagen models secured top positions in the recently released Strategic Vision 2010 Total Value Index. Volkswagen Golf, CC and Routan secured first place in their respective segments. Strategic Vision is the industry's most comprehensive value study, ranking the best vehicles per dollar spent. Overall, Volkswagen Group of America was the full-line leader in Total Value for the second consecutive year.

Hyundai Motor America Reports Record January Sales
- Total sales up 22 percent, retail sales up 58 percent
- 2011 Elantra and Equus off to stellar starts
- Hyundai begins voluntary monthly fuel economy reporting
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Feb. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Hyundai Motor America today announced record January sales of 37,214 units, up 22 percent versus 2010.
January retail sales were up 58 percent from last year thanks to continued strong performance from Sonata (sales up 150 percent) and the concurrent launches of the all-new 40-mpg Elantra, Sonata Hybrid and Equus premium luxury sedan. Fleet mix was 12 percent.
"Our January sales results were encouraging, continuing the momentum of our best year ever, amidst signals that the economy is stabilizing on a trajectory of steady, sustained growth," said Dave Zuchowski, Hyundai Motor America's executive vice president, national sales.
Sales of the American-made Elantra and Sonata were up 26 percent and 150 percent, respectively. Genesis continued its impressive growth with the 19th consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases. Equus, Hyundai's all-new flagship outsold several flagship competitors in its first full month of sales. According to Automotive Lease Guide, Equus residual value is unsurpassed by Lexus LS, BMW 7-Series, and Mercedes S-Class.
Hyundai sold 4,792 cars (2011 Elantra sedan and 2011 Sonata Hybrid) with 40-mpg EPA fuel economy highway ratings, in keeping with its commitment to put more 40-mpg cars on the road than any other automaker in 2011. "It makes sense for all of us to be more transparent with sales data on high fuel-efficiency vehicles," said John Krafcik, Hyundai Motor America's president and CEO. "At Hyundai, 40-mpg isn't a marketing charade. High-volume, high-value cars like our 2011 Elantra sedan, which gets 40-mpg across the board without extra cost fuel economy packages, demonstrate our commitment to leading the industry in fuel efficiency. We'd love to see other automakers report sales of their 40-mpg models."
Beginning this month, Hyundai Motor America will also begin reporting monthly sales-weighted Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) results for the Hyundai brand to provide journalists, policy-makers and consumers with additional data to promote more meaningful dialogue on the feasibility of future fuel efficiency targets for the industry. Today, industry fuel economy reporting lags sales reporting as official CAFE data is calculated on a completed model year basis, with the most recent data published in November 2010, covering the 2009 model year.
For January 2011, Hyundai's sales-weighted CAFE level was 34.7 miles per gallon, with a model year mix for the month of 86 percent 2011 and 14 percent 2010 model year vehicles. This is a significant increase from Hyundai's most recent official CAFE level for the 2009 model year of 31.7 mpg. "In 2008, Hyundai had committed to achieve a CAFE level of at least 35 mpg by 2015. Since then, we've redoubled our efforts to introduce affordable fuel-efficient technology across our lineup, and now we can confidently project achieving a 35 mpg average several years early," said John Krafcik, Hyundai Motor America's president and CEO. "With 2025 CAFE targets being discussed in the 47-to-62 mpg range, Hyundai's fuel economy and sales achievements across a wide range of vehicle segments may provide some confidence to policy-makers that this industry can achieve remarkable fuel efficiency gains without compromising vehicle sales, appeal, value, or customer satisfaction."

- Car, Truck and Crossover segment retail sales each rise more than 34 percent
- GM's newest vehicles continue to gain customers – retail sales up 61 percent
DETROIT – General Motors dealers in the United States reported 178,896 total sales in January, a 23-percent increase from a year ago for the company's four brands. The gain was driven by solid retail sales which were 36 percent higher than a strong January a year ago.
For the month, overall GM fleet sales were down 7 percent with sales to rental fleets declining 11 percent, while sales to commercial customers rose 7 percent.
Retail sales of GM's cars, trucks and crossovers all rose 34 percent or more during the month, up 39 percent, 34 percent and 35 percent, respectively.
"January was a good month and signaled a solid start to the new year for each of our divisions," said Don Johnson, vice president, U.S. Sales Operations. "Our results were driven by gains across the board in all segments, with our newest models leading the way."
Combined sales for GM's newest vehicles – Chevrolet Equinox, Silverado HD, Cruze and Volt; Buick LaCrosse and Regal; GMC Sierra HD and Terrain; and Cadillac SRX, CTS Wagon and CTS Coupe – increased 31 percent, while retail sales surged 61 percent for the month.

Retail sales for the Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia continued to improve in January, up 37 percent, 15 percent and 24 percent respectively.

for one, GM hung its whole hat on OnStar and has buttloads of money invested in it over years. They are not going to sacrifice putting it in their cars in lieu of another technology if its one or the other. GM has so much money and time building the OnStar brand.
The other comment about the screen too low in the dash, also is completely the case.
What I've read is that GM didn't feel the investment would pay off in terms of all the work that would be needed. That would include a center stack redo.
That Malibu is a high volume, low margin car. Even though I thought it was entirely cheesy, I am believing that they chose not to do it because they did not feel there would be cost payback. I think the fact that they still have barely integrated OnStar old plus new NAV units also plays in.
They sort of had the chance to be real innovators in that regard, to marry the OnStar with true NAV Screens. They kind of didn't become the leading edge on that.
When the wagon circles back around it comes down to, it was too expensive, and too hard to do.
For GM.
That's all the excuses GM made. Tell me the one about how I drink the kool-aid again?

What do you mean Onstar and the new NAVs aren't integrated?
-
about 15 miles from me.
-
EVEN IF, there was rewiring work to do, wiring harnesses are not all one piece. Even my '81 Olds breaks apart into 4 major sections with subsections under that. There is no way GM would have needed to "rewire the whole car".
-
Nick is actually correct.
The 9-3,Malibu, and Vectra are on 3 different version of Epsilon I..
The only thing they really share is the name ''Epsilon''.
It's still the same base platform. It's a stereo wiring harness change and an antenna install. The only thing you wouldn't get is downloads from Onstar into the NAV unit for turn-by-turn.
In that regard, yes, Nick is correct about the lack of an Onstar interface, but for people willing to give up this functionality, there are those out there who have done the swap (on Pontiacs at least) successfully.
I'm not willing to give GM a pass on this one even though I prefer Onstar Turn-by-turn to a full NAV system.

2011 Chevrolet American Pride Camaro Slide Show
January 31, 2011
Drew Dowdell - CheersandGears.com
In the summer of 2010, GM commissioned artist Mickey Harris to produce a show car showcasing the history of the efforts of our armed forces beginning from the birth of the country to today. Starting with General Washington crossing the Delaware on the right rear quarter panel and wrapping towards the front, each picture represents milestone in American's fight to win and preserve freedom around the world.
Every portrait was airbrushed freehand with no previous sketching done. The project took over 3 months to complete.
The 2011 American Pride Chevrolet Camaro is currently on tour and can be seen at the following venues in 2011:
Philadelphia, PA Jan 29-Feb 6
Chicago, IL Feb 11-20
Kansas City, MO Mar 2-6
Richmond, VA March 11-13
Fort Lauderdale, FL March 16-20
Denver, CO March 30-April 3
Dallas, TX April 6-10
New York April 22-May 1

I also read on a bunch of websites that Cheers and Gears leaked a power train document for the upcoming Cadillac ATS. There are 131,000 entries for that on google now.... must be true.
Just because Nick said it, doesn't make it true.
The reason it's not true is that there are 4 Epsilon 1 cars, in 3 body styles, that come with NAV.
Saab 9-3 - Sedan, Wagon, Convertible
Opel Vectra - Sedan, Wagon
Cadillac BLS - Sedan, Wagon
Fiat Croma - Wagon

My advice to you is don't drive it anymore until you sort out the warranty.
How many miles do you do in a typical year. (i.e. how long would it take you to burn through 24k or 36k miles?)

So Ford with the CD4 platform and GM with the Epsilon2, being a big deal about putting the same platform under as many divergent products as possible to maximize investment is really all about catching up with Chrysler in 1984?
Well it's not like Epsilon II is the basis for a new minivan and sports car..... at the moment, it's still just a bunch of sedans.
You'd be right about the CD4 though.

sometimes you have to go to the other sites
if i could highlight anything with my computer for cut paste i would but instead i will just tell you to read the second paragraph which has been mentioned several times in many places regarding the Malibu, Aura, etc.
Also supposedly the Malibu does not have rear armrest for some reason that is bizarre as well.
Very often, "that other site" can be just as wrong as we have been in the past.
This:
One of the major complaints of the current Malibu is the lack of navigation system. To clarify once again for everyone, navigation will NEVER be added to the current Malibu. The reason behind that is simple: the wiring structure of the Epsilon I platform that underpins the car does not support navigation and the costs to rewire the whole car exceed the potential return. Is simply incorrect.

Domestics January 2011 Sales
General Motors reported a January 2011 sales rise of 23% today with retail sales increasing 36%. GM’s small crossovers, the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain, continued their trend of kicking butt and taking names with a surge of 35% and 48% respectively. Some of that surge is a credit to additional production coming online at the Oshawa facility, making more vehicles available to meet the rising demand.
Other interesting points:
Ford reported sales of 127,317 for January 2011 for an increase of 27% over the same month last year. Retail sales were up 35% for cars, 22% for Utilities, and 24% for trucks. There was a planned 27% decline in sales to daily rental companies.
Other interesting points:
Chrysler Group LLC Reported January 2011 sales of 70,118, making a 23% increase over January 2010’s 57,143 units. Chrysler’s Jeep, Dodge and Ram brands all posted double digit increases. Chrysler brand down 7%.
