  1. It would be hard for me to consider the Ford's since I have always hated them.
  2. On another note I contacted some friends from the UK and they also said to stay clear of the Discovery. Their opinions of it were very poor. I guess it would be like wanting a Vette and getting a Chevette instead of the Corvette.
  3. The diesel is right. I had an 85 diesel GMC in the past. That wasn't one of the best diesels but I loved it. I sure wish Chevy had the 1/2 ton with the 4.5 L diesel then the choice would be a no brainer and I would pay the extra cash for it. I don't think the plan included the Allison but that would make it even better.
  4. I am getting caught up again. I do like the Jeep idea. That is more what I was looking for. As for the Compass they were only 2WD so they wouldn't meet my desires for a 4x4. Yes I would have to just leave it somewhere. LOL
  5. I didn't check the cash 4 clunker cars maybe I should have to see what not to get.
  6. The plan is to find them. There are some places the locals have mentioned but I since I don't have either a 4x4 or an ATV yet I haven't experienced them. I know I wouldn't take a new truck on the trails.
  7. I am a bit surprised but glad I asked. I wasn't looking for a luxury SUV but when I came across this one it looked good to me. I thought the Land Rovers were good but it seems reliability is the major issue here. Maybe it is best that I didn't get a test drive before having my question answered. Thanks all.
  8. I have been looking at both a new truck or getting a used 4x4 and saving up a bigger down payment. This would give me a toy in the future when I get a new truck. I found a 2002 Land Rover Discovery that looks good. The dealer was closed today so I haven't heard the engine or taken a test drive yet. I am curious about opinions especially from anyone who might have owned or does own a Land Rover. I am looking for good and bad opinions so anything goes.
  9. I was thinking of a small trailer with a couple ATV's to have some fun for me and my son.
  10. Sounds good to me. I don't tow much but like to be able to in case I do. Thanks.
  11. Cell phones and driving will be causing a lot of accidents and my truck was totaled by someone on a cell phone.
  12. Does the 6 speed help make the ratio lower also? Also will it still be able to tow effectively or does this sacrifice the towing capacity?
  13. Thanks it helps to ask to be sure I have the details right.
  14. I have no problem with the Red GMC Sierra. They are harder to come by locally since there are so few GMC dealers. I am willing to drive to get one so it doesn't have to be local. I did drive about 200 miles for my Silverado. I shopped for a used 4x4 today but they were all terrible. I wanted a 4x4 but if I buy new I think I will have to settle for a 2wd. I have my eye on an XFE which I think will fit my budget.
  15. I was looking at an XFE that says Rear Axle 3.08 Ratio. So would this indicate the lower number is best for fuel economy but might suffer with towing or an occasional heavier load. It does say it has the trailering package.
  16. I was looking around the Chevy site at the Silverado but I don't know about the axle ratio mentioned. What is better the lower or the higher number? I guess it would depend on the use of the truck. I was going through the locate a vehicle section and reading what each one has and noticed it varies from 3.08 to 3.42.
  17. I did find a nice red 2009 4x4 Z71 that I liked but the price is too high. One good thing is I was clearly in the black so I will be completely out of car debt and only have the mortgage left with money to get something used for a few months to get by.
  18. I agree this is the best outcome for my truck. I am still stiff and the doctor gave me a shot for the muscle aches. I also need to go to therapy for a bit more. I am lucky I don't do heavy labor so I get by. It looks like the stiffness will be around a bit more. I am glad I had a sturdy truck which did a great job of protecting me.
  19. They finally decided to total my Silverado. I don't have the cash in hand yet and they are leaving me in the rental until next Friday. I did ask that if the check isn't here yet if I would be able to keep the rental a few extra days since I will need that money to get another car and they said they should be able to do that but to wait and see if the check arrives before they extend the rental. I did stop back at the body shop and they told me the frame was beyond repair on a jig and that drove the cost up. There are a lot of good parts on that truck.
  20. No word on it today. I will be pushing for it to be totaled. If I don't hear anything by lunch time tomorrow I will be calling them. I figure I would then get a clunker for a few months then get a new Silverado. I want the next one to be a 4x4. It has to be red or I won't consider it.
  21. They said it is up to $14K and climbing.
  22. An update. Now that they have been adding up the numbers and what all goes into the repair I was told that it could be totaled. They will be speaking with and sending the pictures of the hidden damage that wasn't seen by the Chevy body shop only looking at the exterior bent metal to the insurance company. I don't know how long this process will be or what the final determination will be. Now I am on hold waiting on the insurance and the body shop to come to a decision. I might need to be out looking for a replacement or it could still get repaired.

    OUCH!

Wow with these stinging stories I don't know if it is safe outside anymore. Sorry to hear of this and hope it heals soon.
  24. My guess is this is only on the fleet models and not on the normal models. This is something that could be inconvenient if renting a car to travel with and having kids in the back seat.
