  1. Are you kidding me? If Chevy calls it "IM-PA-LUH", then that's what it is... If you watch the Tom Hanks movie,"That Thing You Do," there is a scene towards the end, out in front of the Ambassador Hotel in LA, where the head parking attendant answers the phone and says, "Hello... Blue IM-PA-LUH? Right away, sir!!" That settles it for me...
  2. I really wish that GM and Chevy would use that chrome column mounted shift selector in their current cars, instead of that cheap plastic thing in the current Impala and Tahoe/Suburban. That was always the Chevy tradition, from 1967 on, that classic, slightly curved column mounted shifter, especially in the full sized Caprice and Impala -- and it continues today in the current Impala and Tahoe/Suburban, although now its black plastic. I think i saw a picture of a new Lucerne with a column shifter; don't know if Cadillac is using them anymore on the DTS....
  3. Well, I have driven a new Impala - It was a white LTZ, with the beige interior - It looks wonderful --- major upgrade in appearance from the 00-05, no question - the wood looks very nice -- but I have to say, the door panels look very much like something made at Rubbermaid --- very flat and hard -- the leather on the steering wheel didnt feel like leather at all -- very coarse, pebbly -- and the gold bowtie sticker on the steering wheel looks like it came out of a kid's cut- out book -- I have an 04 impala. so i know what I'm talking about -- This is a great re-do, but Chevy skimped a bit, here and there -- as they always seem to do. For another 100 bucks of so of cost, they couldve sold this new car for another grand or so --- Maybe next year they will address these few minor issues, and make the Impala the grand slam that it can be, rather than the solid double that it is now...
  4. I saw 2 new Impalas on the lot at my local dealer the other day, and I have a few questions about ordering models and options.. One of the cars was a Black SS with light grey leather interior, but it had the woodgrain dash applique instead of the Chrome-ish stuff that I thought was specific to the SS. Can you order an SS with the woodgrain dash, or one of the other models with the chrome? The other car on the lot was a dark gray "3LT" that also had the light gray leather, but it also had the 3.9 V6; I thought that the 3.9 was specific only to the LTZ... this car had LTZ wheels and stickered out at over $28K; seems to me that if you can order a "3LT" that essentially is an LTZ, that there are too many Impala models being offered, which is going to result in confusion for both dealers and potential customers. Does any Chevy dealer or GM staffer know what's up here with these issues? Thanks...
  5. I saw two new Impalas on the lot at the Chevy dealer in Woodland, CA the other day.. One was a black SS with oyster/grey leather, but it had the woodgrain dash rather than the chrome-ish finish that I thought was SS-specific. So here's my question; Can you order any Impala with either chrome or wood finishes on the dash? Also, the other car on the lot was a dark grey "3LT" that stickered out at over $28K, and had the 3.9 V8; I thought that the 3.9 could only be ordered in the LTZ; so, whats the difference between a "3LT" and an LTZ? Seems as if there are too many Impala models being offered and it's going to be confusing...
  6. The most beautiful car I ever owned was a 1991 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon, white with the wood trim, and beige leather interior. I bought it new, out of the showroom at Don Collins Buick in San Rafael, CA. It only had the 305 V8, which was the only engine offered in that first year of Roadmaster production, but it was a beauty. It was a beast to park in Marin and San Francisco, but WHAT A GORGEOUS CAR!! I'm not sure that there is much of a market for large wagons anymore, but I'd buy one if they decided to make them; white with wood trim and beige leather, please...
  7. Well, it's beautiful -- especially the interior... Does anyone know if there will be wheel flares offered, as on the '00-05? Any two-tone body color combos offered? I'm not crazy about the body-colored rear window area-supports; I really like the black louvered look on the current model; too-mini-van-like, maybe?? Some chrome inserts on the front and rear bumbers would have been nice, too -- a heritage thing... Now I wish I had waited for an '07 and not bought a new Bermuda Blue '05 LT -- I did save a ton, though... Very nice job, Chevy!!
  8. It IS a big improvement, Harley -- no question. If not for the few little things I mentioned above, I would give it a 9.9 out of 10. As it is now, I would give it an 8.5; just a bit more attention to some little things, and it would be pretty close to perfect.
  9. Well, boys and girls, I drove an '06 Impala today -- It was a white LTZ, with beige leather -- the dash looks great; say what you want about the fake wood, it looks far richer than the vast expanse of beige in my '04. It is a solid, heavier, much more quiet feel when driving than my '04; if you didnt see the gold bow tie on the steering wheel and the Impala logo above the glove box, you would think you were driving a Buick or a Cadillac -- it feels that solid!! The interior controls (lights, audio system, temp controls) are truly a leap forward; so much richer looking and feeling than in my current car (a white '04 LS, also with beige leather); the wood and bright trim around the floor shifter is so much better than the black plastic stuff on the old car. The front seats felt about the same to me; not any more support on thighs or back. The 3.9 V-6 is a bit quicker and quieter, but not much more so than the 3.8 in my '04. If only they could drop that V8 in there... It looks really nice, a much-needed updating of the '00-'05. I did see some things that I didn't like, however... The bow tie logo on the steering wheel looks like a sticker that came in some kid's art book; very chintzy looking. The "leather" on the steering wheel felt cheaper than the leather in my '04; very rough and pebbly, not up to the luxury feel in the rest of the car. The door panels ARE very flat, plastic and cheap-looking; they look really bad in comparison to the door panels on my '04, and that is saying something; if anyone at Chevy is reading this, they really need to address these seemingly minor things, and then they would have a true home run on their hands. I'm a total Chevy guy, and this new Impala is a big improvement; I didn't even mind the taillights, once i got up close to them. However, if the intent was to try and pass the LTZ model off as a baby Buick or Cad, they are not quite there -- close though. I will definitely buy a new Impala LTZ -- next year; maybe by then they will have addressed some of these nagging little issues.
