</p>

<p>
	New available lighting packages use light strips to welcome the owner via a light sequence called Lincoln Embrace as they approach, reversing the sequence as the vehicle is powered off.  The Illumination Package, now standard on the Reserve and Black Label trims includes an illuminated Lincoln Star, adaptive pixel LED headlamps, speed-dependent lighting, adaptive bending lighting, and dynamic signature lighting with LED daytime running lamps.
</p>

<p>
	Two new wheel designs may be chosen. Standard are 20-inch bright machined aluminum wheels with Magnetic-painted pockets, while 2-inch Ebony Black bright machined aluminum wheels with gloss-black painted pockets and center caps are available. Additional wheel personalization is available with the Jet Package, available on each trim with unique designs.

Unlike the prior model, which ended production last year, there is no Ford counterpart, giving Lincoln its first model in decades without a direct counterpart from a lesser brand.  Lincoln has reimagined the interior to maximize space and comfort for its occupants.
</p>

<p>
	The 2024 Nautilus bathes its occupants in luxury. A new console-style dash features "The Lincoln Embrace", an animation that starts at the center of the display and extends out, flowing into the door panels. The screen is the largest in its class and extends the entire width of the vehicle.  This allows Nautilus drivers to create their own sanctuary with personalized information to help keep eyes on the road.  When stationary, Nautilus orchestrates the available Lincoln Rejuvenate experience, a curation of visual, audio, and physical sensations that allow driver and passenger to recharge. As part of Lincoln Rejuvenate or as a standalone option, three curated scents will be available, – Mystic Forest, an earthy blend <img alt="large.2024LincolnNautilusReserveJetPackage_BlackOnyx_04.webp" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed ipsAttachLink_image ipsAttachLink_left" data-extension="gallery_Images" data-fileid="https://www.cheersandgears.com/gallery/image/27930-2024-lincoln-nautilus-reserve-jet-package_black-onyx-_04webp/" data-unique="jwmfx491c" style="width: 400px; height: auto; float: left;" width="999" src="//cdn.cheersandgears.com/monthly_2023_04/large.2024LincolnNautilusReserveJetPackage_BlackOnyx_04.webp.1fe17d1b2fb262d5aab60004c14b35ff.webp" loading="lazy" height="499.5">with woody, rich notes of patchouli; Ozonic Azure, a crisp blend of aromatic patchouli and traces of bright violet and Violet Cashmere, exotic white florals and trusted violet that are crisp and refined as fresh linen. Three levels of scent are available and controlled through the information system. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Alexa are all standard, allowing the user control of music, calendar, route planning, and home automation.
</p>

<p>
	Available only in all-wheel drive, the Nautilus offers two powertrain choices. The base engine is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder mated to an 8-speed automatic with a targeted output of 250 horsepower and 275 lb.-ft. of torque. Lincoln has lightened the components of the all-wheel drive system to improve fuel economy. Additionally, Lincoln will offer a hybrid model using the same gas engine but paired via a CVT with a 100-kw (about 134 hp) electric drive unit. The total system horsepower will be approximately 310 hp.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="large.2024LincolnBlackLabelNautilus_Redwood_02.webp" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed ipsAttachLink_image ipsAttachLink_right" data-extension="gallery_Images" data-fileid="https://www.cheersandgears.com/gallery/image/27919-2024-lincoln-black-label-nautilus_redwood_02webp/" data-unique="7f6230aaf" style="width: 400px; height: auto; float: right;" width="999" src="//cdn.cheersandgears.com/monthly_2023_04/large.2024LincolnBlackLabelNautilus_Redwood_02.webp.f9c7e61a43d05b32a4284b2c25ca0092.webp" loading="lazy" height="539.46">The chassis is managed by an active suspension with a suite of sensors that monitor motion and movement to provide an effortless gliding drive. Lincoln will also offer an updated BlueCruise 1.2, Lincoln's hands-free driving system for highway travel.
</p>

<p>
	Nautilus will be available in four exterior colors, Red Carpet, Diamond Red, Chroma Caviar and Blue Panther, with new interior themes. Black Onyx and Medium Light Space Gray is the core theme available on most models. Smoked Truffle is a warm, neutral theme. Black Onyx and Allura Blue is limited to Reserve models and highlights the Lincoln brand. The Jet Appearance Package, which is available on all trims, includes two-tone paint, available high gloss-black 22-inch wheels, an exclusive interior environment, and anodized black exterior elements. The package offers a sleeker and more dynamic look – another way for clients to personalize their Nautilus. The exclusive Black Onyx Sport interior features a Copper Code aluminum applique, enhanced by Dusted Copper accent stitching throughout.
</p>

<p>
	Lincoln's ultimate Black-Label trim gets two bespoke options. Chalet is a popular option in other Lincoln Black-Label models, and debuting on Nautilus is a new Redwood theme. Redwood mimics the warmth and beauty of the redwood forest with a tree-inspired motif.

<p>
	From rich textures to immersive audio, Nautilus will offer the award-winning available Revel Ultima 3D Audio System which features 28 speakers that envelop each occupant in rich, precise, and multidimensional sound. Paired with the available 24-Way Perfect Position Driver and Passenger Seats, the Nautilus creates a concert-like experience on the road.
</p>

<p>
	The 2024 Lincoln Nautilus will arrive in North America in early 2024, but ordering for the Nautilus is available now at Lincoln.com.

	Inside and out, the Lincoln Star concept introduces new design language, with Lincoln’s core tenets of beauty, human, gliding and sanctuary on full display. As Lincoln moves toward an electric future, it is equally focused on keeping its current portfolio fresh and introducing new clients to the brand. “As Lincoln enters the next chapter in our transition to a zero-emissions future, the Lincoln Star Concept will lead the way for our portfolio of fully electric vehicles,” said Joy Falotico, president, Lincoln. “It is an excellent example of how we are redefining luxury for the next generation as we work to transform the vehicle into a third space – a true place of sanctuary – for our clients.”

<p>
	Lincoln has the following to say about this new take on the interior:
</p>

<p style="background-color:#ffffff; color:#333333; font-size:14.672px; text-align:start">
	<b>A reimagined sanctuary</b>
</p>

<p style="background-color:#ffffff; color:#333333; font-size:14.672px; text-align:start">
	Both in design and color composition, the interior is uniquely partitioned into first- and second-row areas. The entire cabin experience in the first and second row is premium, with extra-spacious wraparound seating, reclined lounge posture, individual lounge leg rests and curated storage for devices and slippers, controls for rejuvenation moods and a luxurious glass beverage chiller integrated between the back seats.
</p>

<p style="background-color:#ffffff; color:#333333; font-size:14.672px; text-align:start">
	The feeling of spaciousness is enhanced with 3D-printed metal latticework on the A-pillar along the windshield and the D-pillar at the back window of the Lincoln Star Concept – visible from the inside out. These transparent pillars, along with a full skylight with digital shade, invites natural light in to enhance the open, airy feel of the space.
</p>

<p style="background-color:#ffffff; color:#333333; font-size:14.672px; text-align:start">
	A coast-to-coast curved horizontal display creates a digital panorama in which content flows seamlessly into an integrated center control screen, then into the second-row screen, creating a unique experience for all passengers. New materials such as leather and chrome alternatives and several unique finishes – work in harmony to create a modern, luxurious experience.
</p>

<p style="background-color:#ffffff; color:#333333; font-size:14.672px; text-align:start">
	Three rejuvenation moods join a new Lincoln Embrace sequence harmonizing audio, scenting and lighting throughout the cabin. A symphonic orchestration with crisp, high-resolution animations on the displays creates an immersive digital sanctuary. Whether stuck in traffic or just enjoying a few quiet moments after work, the rejuvenation moods provide a true sanctuary in a third space:
</p>

<ul style="background-color:#ffffff; color:#333333; font-size:14.672px; text-align:start">
	<li style="padding:5px">
		Coastal Morning uses gentle, oceanic sounds, a fragrance of sea mist and the soft, warm glow of the sun with dynamic lighting throughout to replicate a stroll on the beach at sunrise
	</li>
	<li style="padding:5px">
		Mindful Vitality is meant to reenergize the senses, with invigorating, upbeat audio, dynamic abstract artwork, soft, glowing lighting and a flowery fragrance throughout
	</li>
	<li style="padding:5px">
		Evening Chill mirrors dusk using a calming night soundtrack coordinated with night sky video and an evergreen fragrance
	</li>
</ul>

<p style="background-color:#ffffff; color:#333333; font-size:14.672px; text-align:start">
	The three moods are built around the body’s natural circadian rhythm of morning, day and evening. With the help of connected technology, the moods will offer content updates and ways for clients to personalize their settings into the future.
</p>

<p style="background-color:#ffffff; color:#333333; font-size:14.672px; text-align:start">
	Using the area no longer occupied by a gas engine, a front trunk allows for ample storage, expanding the feeling of spaciousness inside. With electro-chromatic glass that changes from transparent to opaque, the front trunk is instantly recognizable, allowing light in when the vehicle is in motion and darkening to hide stored valuables when parked. Under the front trunk, illuminated first-row floors flow uninterrupted into the interior, creating an airy, open cabin.
</p>

<p style="background-color:#ffffff; color:#333333; font-size:14.672px; text-align:start">
	A wing-shaped floating instrument panel, inspired by aircraft ailerons, emphasizes horizontal balance and equilibrium, while Lincoln one-touch pedal allows for effortless operation. The interior also features Lincoln Attaché, a digital briefcase concept with a hidden compartment in the rear coach door that not only provides safe storage of tablets and laptops, but does double duty as a charge pad for devices and can seamlessly detect incoming wireless content for clients. Finally, a reimagined rear cargo space features a lounge mode that transforms into a cozy, indulgent outdoor seat to bring the destination closer.
</p>

<p style="background-color:#ffffff; color:#333333; font-size:14.672px; text-align:start">
	“The Lincoln Star Concept has been a true labor of love for our team and provides us with a platform to share and test our experiences and design philosophy with clients as we evolve our Quiet Flight DNA,” said Kemal Curic, global design director, Lincoln. “Signifying transcendence through both space and time, the concept creates a sense of peace and serenity within an electric experience and previews what is to come from Lincoln.”

	The Lincoln Star is an AWD concept that is showing what American Luxury in the 21st Century looks like and can be. As such, they have not stated if the Star is to be a SUV, CUV or Car. In looking at the next two videos, one could go as far as saying this is a return to comfort in the form of an American Station Wagon re-imaged in the 21st century.

<p>
	June 29th 2021 Lincoln released online via their YouTube channel the work of their latest push for luxury and the creative boundaries in transportation design. The goal was to challenge 4 teams of the ArtCenter College students in Southern California to tell a meaningful story of the future of luxury transportation.
</p>

<p>
	The four teams were built with each team having a team of students from the following disciplines:
</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Film
	</li>
	<li>
		Enterainment
	</li>
	<li>
		Illustrators
	</li>
	<li>
		Animators
	</li>
</ul>

<p>
	The mission for each team was to envision a Lincoln vehicle of 2040 and beyond, but the world in which those vehicles would live, even the lives of the people who would drive them. Lincoln asked  just not for great looking vehicles, but a great narrative, rich storytelling and understand the ecosystem in which the concept vehicle would live.

	</div>
</div>

<p>
	Each team was guided by the Lincoln promise of Quiet Flight. The goal of creating ultimate sanctuary for human transportation while conforming to the company's CASE acronym of Connected, Autonomous, Shared, and Electric.
</p>

<p>
	To ensure diversity of ideas, each team was assigned a vehicle type to be represented as follows - a two passenger, a four passenger, a four passenger with elevated ride height and a six passenger vehicle.
</p>

<div class="ipsEmbeddedVideo" contenteditable="false">
	<div>
		<iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="113" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/CWBuvjsyjtU?feature=oembed" width="200" loading="lazy"></iframe>
	</div>
</div>

<p>
	The executive team at Lincoln was awe struck and inspired by the presentations of Quiet Flight DNA.
</p>

<p>
	To quote the Lincoln press release:
</p>

<p style="background-color:#ffffff; color:#333333; font-size:14.672px; text-align:start">
	Collectively, the four concepts embody a wide range of futuristic, luxurious Lincoln vehicles. From a monitor on the ArtCenter College of Design campus in Pasadena, to dozens of other monitors across the country, the animated stories came to life.
</p>

<ul style="background-color:#ffffff; color:#333333; font-size:14.672px; text-align:start">
	<li style="padding:5px">
		The Lincoln Glider sedan, taking cues from classic Zephyr and Continental models, is the inspiration for a short film, “Now You Drive,” which opens with Dominic in the driver’s seat of a futuristic two-seater. The 36-year-old Lincoln designer heads into the city to pick up his father, Dolan, who is paralyzed. After storing his dad’s wheelchair in a dedicated slot in the car, Dominic says, “Dad, now you drive.” As the vehicle’s gas and brake pedals disappear into the firewall, Dolan marvels at a car smart enough to take over some of the driving duties for him – allowing him to get behind the wheel again for the first time in years.
	</li>
	<li style="padding:5px">
		In “Anniversary,” a four-passenger Lincoln vehicle leverages its digital technology to enable its passengers to connect the present and the past. In celebration of their 30th wedding anniversary, Julianne and Greg set out to revisit some favorite spots from their youth. As they reminisce about the moments that bind them and re-explore the path of their relationship, their Lincoln sedan is able to access digital images of the past and display their fond memories on the dashboard.
	</li>
	<li style="padding:5px">
		The future of the family SUV is envisioned in “Amongst the Stars,” with tech advances that give passengers access to features such as touch-screen windows. As astronaut Claire Boron prepares to take her first steps in space, she recalls her first close experience with the stars on a family trip to White Sands National Park. Riding in a four-seat Lincoln, she gazes through the windows and moonroof and first tastes the excitement that has come to shape her life as an explorer of the unknown.
	</li>
	<li style="padding:5px">
		The film “Ensemble” imagines next-level autonomous driving, putting a group of musical artists in the cabin of a six-passenger luxury cruiser that more closely resembles a well-appointed living room. Ahead of their opening show, the six musicians find sanctuary as they glide through a bustling, fast-paced city in a self-driving vehicle that enables them to luxuriate in peace and comfort as they get ready to perform.
	</li>
</ul>

<div class="ipsEmbeddedVideo" contenteditable="false">

	</div>
</div>

<p>
	While the four teams delivered on the assigned challenge, they also delivered so much more by also presenting images of what they see even normal driving BEVs should be like on the inside and out. The students believe electric auto's will allow the passion of flowing designs to return in ways that have never been thought of in the last couple of decades.

	Mid-decade Lincoln expects half of all global production to be zero-emission vehicles with the goal to be 100%BEV globally by 2030. This is part of Ford Motor Companies plan to invest $30 billion in electrification by 2025. gm just upped their investment to $35 billion, time for Ford to up theirs?

<p>
	Per Joy Falotico, President of Lincoln, "Electrification will take Quiet Flight to a new level with the smooth, exhilarating take-off feel and serene quietness our clients expect from a Lincoln."
</p>

<p>
	The company will move forward with all-new RWD and AWD battery electric flexible architecture that will enable Lincoln to deliver four new distinct BEVs. The first electric Lincoln will join the existing plug-in hybrid Aviator and Corsair SUVs in 2022 and is the start to be an all-electric brand by 2030.
</p>

<p>
	To quote the Lincoln president, "Our clients deserve the very best from Lincoln. Our world-class vehicles, effortless services and advanced connected technology will allow us to create an always-on relationship with them and help transform the Lincoln brand for the future." The Lincoln Way app will be one way they will deliver an enhanced suite of connected services that will become the norm of the electrified future.

<p>
	The first product to come from <a href="https://www.cheersandgears.com/articles/news/rivian/ford-invests-500m-in-rivian-to-gain-platform-access-r5770/" rel="">Ford's investment into startup automaker Rivian</a> will likely be a Lincoln SUV due to arrive sometime in 2022.  The vehicle will be all-wheel drive and compete against Rivian's own R1S which is priced at $72,500.  The models will share Rivian's skateboard platform, a design that combines the motors, batteries, controls and suspension into a single unit that the body can be built around.
</p>

<p>
	The <a href="https://www.cheersandgears.com/articles/auto-show-news/la-auto-show/rivian-r1s-suv-promises-to-go-anywhere-on-electricity-r5412/" rel="">Rivian R1S</a> is a three-row EV crossover with a range of up to 410 miles and will be built in Normal Illinois at a former Mitsubishi plant. It is expected to go into production sometime in 2021.
</p>

<p>
	There will also be a compact Lincoln EV crossover coming for 2021 that could be built on the same platform that the Ford Mustang Mach-E rides on.
</p>

<p>
	EV sales have been tepid so far in the US, but Lincoln is banking on the EVs to be bigger sellers in the Chinese market.

<p>
	Ford is preparing to launch a pair of mid-size crossover electric vehicles according to sources. One Ford and one Lincoln are code named CDX746 and CDX747 are similar in size to the Ford Edge and Lincoln Nautilus and both will be 2023 models.  The vehicles were originally destined for Ford's plant in Cuautitlan, Mexico but have been moved to Flatrock Assembly in Michigan just south of Detroit.   Flatrock Assembly is where the Ford Mustang and Lincoln Continental are currently built.
</p>

<p>
	These two EVs are slated for about 65,000 units annually and because of the move to Flatrock, essentially spell the end for the slow selling Lincoln Continental.... at least in the US.  It is possible that Lincoln could continue building the Continental in China and import it to the U.S., however tariff concerns which killed the Ford Focus Active from being imported from China could also filter over onto the Continental.

<p>
	The new Lincoln Aviator will be introducing an Adaptive Suspension with Road Preview that uses the forward camera to sense potholes in the road and adjusts the suspension to minimize the impact felt in the cabin.   The system uses 12 sensors to monitor vehicle conditions like vehicle motion, body movement, steering input, acceleration, and braking. The sensors read at 500 times per second and can make adjustments 100 times per second, this totals out to 23,000 inputs per second of data. The system can operate each wheel independently. Lincoln developed the entire system in-house.
</p>

<p>
	Additionally, in a nod to the air sprung Lincolns of the past, there will be an available Air Glide Suspension which replaces the coil springs with guided air springs, enabling the Aviator to ride at several ride heights.  Over 70 mph, the Aviator lowers to Aero height for the best in efficiency and performance.

<p>
	Lincoln is giving the Navigator a few styling updates along with some new tech for the 2020 model year.  For those who dislike huge amounts of chrome, the Navigator will now be offered in a Monochromatic package available on the Reserve series. The Monochromatic package will be available in three colors, Pristine White, Ceramic Pearl, and Infinite Black and reflect the minimalist trend in interior décor.
</p>

<p>
	On the technology side of things, Lincoln's Phone As A Key technology becomes standard.  This technology will first arrive on the Lincoln Aviator this summer. Using the Lincoln Way app, the technology allows drivers to lock/unlock the doors, open the liftgate, start and drive their cars all without the use of a standard keyfob.  Power runningboards are now standard, as are heated and ventilated front seats and a wireless charging pad for certain mobile phones.
</p>

<p>
	The largest tech add is Lincoln Co-Pilot360 which includes, auto high-beam headlamps, blind spot detection, lane-keeping system with driver alert, pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, dynamic brake support, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, and rear-view camera washer.
</p>

<p>
	Lincoln says that 66 percent of Navigator buyers are coming from other brands and when customers pick Navigator, they overwhelmingly choose Reserve or Black Label series at a rate of about 90 percent.  The 2020 Navigator will arrive in dealerships in November 2019.
</p>

<p>
	Lincoln says that their SUV sales are at an 18-year high.

<p>
	Back in June we reported that the <a href="https://www.cheersandgears.com/articles/news/lincoln/rumorpile-lincoln-mkc-to-become-corsair-r5107/" rel="">Lincoln MKC would be changing its name to Corsair</a>. While previously used as an Edsel name, Corsair fits in with Lincoln's nautical naming theme for some of their SUVs, Corsair being a small sailing vessel.  Now, this week <a href="https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2019/02/lincoln-to-offer-three-flavors-of-corsair/" rel="external nofollow">TTAC</a> has uncovered a NHTSA document showing the engine lineup for the coming small crossover and it includes a plug-in hybrid variant.
</p>

<p>
	The plug-in hybrid will be a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder likely borrowed from the Fusion S. In that application it makes 175 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. There is no word on driving range yet, but one thing that is for sure is that the PHEV version is only available in all-wheel drive. Two other powertrains will be available but they are the 2.0T and 2.3T carried over from the existing car.
</p>

<p>
	When will the Corsair arrive? That's anyone's guess, but our guess is that like its bigger brothers the <a href="https://www.cheersandgears.com/articles/auto-show-news/la-auto-show/lincoln-decides-real-names-are-a-good-idea-introduces-2019-nautilus-r4680/" rel="">Lincoln Nautilus</a>, and <a href="https://www.cheersandgears.com/articles/auto-show-news/la-auto-show/first-impressions-2020-lincoln-aviator-r5425/" rel="">Lincoln Aviator</a>, it will be unveiled at the <a href="https://www.cheersandgears.com/articles/auto-show-news/la-auto-show/" rel="">LA Auto Show</a> this coming November.

<p>
	If you were hoping to get your hands on the upcoming Lincoln Continental Coach Door Edition, then we have some bad news for you. Lincoln announced this morning that all 80 models planned for this year have been sold. Unlike most special models where you have to go through a unique ordering process, buyers could walk into any Lincoln dealer and place an order. Lincoln will notify the lucky 80 approved customers next month, with deliveries to begin this summer.
</p>

<p>
	"Response from customers has been extremely positive, with interest exceeding the planned production for the limited-edition run," the company said in a statement.
</p>

<p>
	Lincoln is planning a second run of Continental Coach Door models for the 2020 model year. More information will come out at a later date.

			 <a href="https://www.cheersandgears.com/articles/news/lincoln/lincoln-planning-to-add-suicide-doors-to-continental-r4935/" rel="">Back in March</a>, we reported that Lincoln showed it dealers a Continental with rear-hinged suicide doors and announced plans to build it. We didn't have any details of when this model would launch or why - our speculation at the time was Lincoln showing some commitment to its car lineup. Today, Lincoln has revealed the suicide door version of the Continental.
		</p>

		<p>
			The 2019 Continental 80th Anniversary Coach Door Edition pays tribute to the introduction of the Continental nameplate and one of its most iconic features - the suicide-hinged doors that were first offered in 1961.
		</p>

		<p>
			Lincoln teamed with Cabot Coach Builders in Massachusetts to produce this special edition model. Lincoln did all of the engineering, metalwork and everything else required for this vehicle. The base vehicle and necessary parts are sent to Cabot which will produce the model. It begins with the Continental being stretched out six-inches. Aside from giving the space required for the suicide doors, it also makes for a more spacious rear seat, complete with a pass-through console featuring a stowable tray table and wireless charging pad. Lincoln says the changes only add about 100 to 150 pounds to the overall weight.
		</p>

		<p>
			Power will come from the twin-turbo 3.0L V6 with 400 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque.
		</p>

		<p>
			Lincoln is only planning on building 80 Continental 80th Anniversary Coach Door Editions for the 2019 model year, with pricing expected to begin above the $100,000 mark. The automaker did mention that it is planning to make a "limited" number of 2020 model year vehicles, though no number was given. <a href="https://www.cheersandgears.com/articles/news/lincoln/rumorpile-lincoln-continental-to-be-one-and-done-r4918/" rel="">If the rumor about the current Continental going away</a> in next few years proves to be true, this isn't a bad way to give it a final curtain call.

				This limited-edition Continental offers nod to heritage while providing refinements for today’s discerning luxury client, such as an elegantly crafted rear-seat pass-through console with stowable tray table and tablet holder
			</li>
			<li>
				Limited run of 80 units, honoring Continental’s 80th anniversary, will be produced for the 2019 model year, each personalized with a unique badge; Continental 80th Anniversary Coach Door Edition is scheduled to arrive next summer
			</li>
		</ul>

		<p>
			<strong>NEW YORK, Dec. 17, 2018 –</strong> “Notice the doors,” the vintage advertisement for the Lincoln Continental began. “And notice how they open. From the center, to make everyone’s entrances graceful.”
		</p>

		<p>
			With that, an enduring automotive design legend was born – the coach doors – or center-opening doors, which conveyed elegance and a touch of Hollywood glamour.
		</p>

		<p>
			Today, six decades later, Lincoln is bringing back a modern version of these iconic center-opening doors with the introduction of the Lincoln Continental 80th Anniversary Coach Door Edition. A limited run of just 80 units will be produced.
		</p>

		<p>
			The Continental Coach Door Edition arrives as Lincoln is riding a new wave of product momentum. Following the reveal of the all-new Lincoln Aviator at the Los Angeles Auto Show, this 80th Anniversary Continental celebrates the heritage of one of America’s most beloved luxury sedans.
		</p>

		<p>
			“This Lincoln Continental echoes a design that captured the hearts of car enthusiasts around the world,” says Joy Falotico, president, The Lincoln Motor Company. “It’s something bespoke only Lincoln can offer in a thoroughly modern way.”
		</p>

		<p>
			<strong>Glamour and allure</strong>
		</p>

		<p>
			Lincoln Continental began as a custom luxury vehicle hand-crafted by chief stylist Eugene T. Gregorie for Edsel Ford in 1939. Years later, the 1961 Continental introduced the unique center-opening doors and a chrome-accented upper shoulder line that established a signature look for Lincoln.
		</p>

		<p>
			“The center-opening doors became synonymous with the Lincoln Continental, even though they were only featured primarily in the ’60s,” says David Woodhouse, design director, The Lincoln Motor Company. “But they struck such a chord that they’re still remembered so fondly today.”
		</p>

		<p>
			Woodhouse says the element is both dramatic and distinctive. “It was truly a watershed moment for us in terms of iconic design,” he adds.
		</p>

		<p>
			Each of the 80 units in this limited production for 2019 will have a special door sill plate featuring its number in the run. A limited number of additional Continental Coach Door Edition sedans will be available as well for the 2020 model year.
		</p>

		<p>
			The Lincoln Continental 80th Anniversary Coach Door provides the refinements and advanced features today’s luxury vehicle client desires. From the doors to the seating to the Lincoln Black Label interior, no detail has been overlooked. Rear-seat amenities are uniquely tailored, featuring an elegantly crafted pass-through console that offers a stowable tray table with tablet holder and wireless charging pad.
		</p>

		<p>
			Rear-seat passengers will be more comfortable than ever. The six inches added to the car’s wheelbase allow for the placement of the larger coach doors, while also delivering best-in-class second-row legroom.
		</p>

		<p>
			<strong>Celebrating form and function</strong>
		</p>

		<p>
			The center-opening coach doors are a celebration of both form and function. Woodhouse says they showcase the interior of an exceptionally beautiful vehicle. The 90-degree opening makes for easy, graceful entry and exit by allowing passengers to turn to sit to enter, then exit the car by stepping forward and out.
		</p>

		<p>
			“People appreciate elegance and glamour,” says Woodhouse. “And they want the easiest way to get in and out of a vehicle. These doors answer to both.”
		</p>

		<p>
			The car is meticulously crafted inside and out, integrating technologies that both assist and entertain. This Continental senses a driver’s approach and lights up with Lincoln’s trademark sequential welcoming embrace. Its award-winning Head-Up display contributes to a custom driving experience by letting drivers choose what information is projected onto the windshield display. The feature is so innovative that it is visible even with ambient lighting and when the driver is wearing polarized sunglasses.
		</p>

		<p>
			In keeping with the spirit of arriving in style, the 2019 Lincoln Continental’s innovative electronic door system allows doors to be unlatched in a smooth, single motion, making entry and exit both effortless and quiet.
		</p>

		<p>
			With Lincoln’s exclusive 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine, Continental delivers the power and performance today’s luxury clients expect with an impressive 400 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque. Three Drive Modes, including Normal, Sport and Comfort, allow clients to personalize their driving experience.
		</p>

		<p>
			To complement its smooth, powerful drive, this special edition features Perfect Position seats that adjust 30 ways, plus Active Noise Control for a quiet interior. A Revel® Ultima Audio experience allows drivers to select one of three listening modes, including stereo, audience and on-stage.
		</p>

		<p>
			Continental clients will have their choice of Lincoln Black Label themes, the brand’s most personalized level of luxury, including Chalet and Thoroughbred. Lincoln Black Label not only provides the highest quality of materials in customized designer themes, it also offers a host of membership privileges. These include annual vehicle detailing, anytime carwashes, and access to a selection of restaurants where noted chefs will provide a curated dining experience.
		</p>

		<p>
			This limited-edition model is available to order now through Lincoln Black Label dealers. The Lincoln Continental 80th Anniversary Coach Door Edition is set to arrive next summer.

<p>
	The upcoming Lincoln Aviator will be offering a very potent plug-in hybrid powertrain offering 450 horsepower and a whopping 600 pound-feet of torque. But what will Lincoln call this Aviator model? Most competitors use something like E-Hybrid, PHEV, or a 'e' to the end of the model. According to Automotive News, Lincoln will be using the Grand Touring (GT) to designate electrified variants.
</p>

<p>
	"Quite simply, it came down to, what does it do? And what it does is that it makes the vehicle more exciting to drive. It's the purest definition of Grand Touring," said Robert Parker, Lincoln's marketing chief.
</p>

<p>
	Lincoln went through various names, "including variations of the letter E," in internal discussions and focus groups before landing on Grand Touring.
</p>

<p>
	"Consumers may have liked the word but didn't know what it meant. If I have to go spend money to describe to customers what a new word means, I've taken money away from promoting Aviator," explained Parker.
</p>

<p>
	"You can talk yourself into these letters and conventions, but when you go out into the consumer space, they're very confused. EcoBoost wasn't new; direct-injection technology was around in the late '80s, but nobody seemed to find the magic until EcoBoost."
</p>

<p>
	We'll see if this works out for Lincoln when the Aviator begins hitting dealers next summer.

<p>
	Ford has been banking on China to help revive sales of Lincoln and made plans to start building models in late 2019. But the on-going trade war between the U.S. and China has caused the company to reconsider their plans.
</p>

<p>
	“What we want to do is accelerate that. We will look for opportunities, but it’s a big undertaking and I think it won’t be a significant change in our plans,” said Joy Falotico, head of Lincoln and Ford’s chief marketing officer to Bloomberg.
</p>

<p>
	Currently, Lincoln doesn't have any local production in China. Instead, the brand has been importing vehicles from the U.S. which has meant getting hit with a 40 percent tariff by the Chinese government. This has caused sales of Lincoln vehicles to slow to a crawl. Last year, Lincoln sales rose 66 percent in China. But in October, sales are up just 3 percent.
</p>

<p>
	Ford is trying to move the timing of Lincoln production to sometime before late 2019. According to Falotico, moving the timing slightly would be a big help. The first model that would be part of this plan is the recently introduced Aviator.
</p>

<p>
	Also under consideration is Lincoln plans to export some Chinese-built models to the U.S. Falotico said the brand would likely build the same models in both countries.

<p>
	Lincoln launched a <a href="https://www.cheersandgears.com/articles/news/lincoln/lincoln-launches-a-car-subscription-service-pilot-r4954/" rel="">pilot program for its own subscription service</a> through Ford's Canvas earlier this year in the Los Angeles and the San Francisco areas. Unlike other programs that offer new vehicles, Lincoln's program offered off-lease vehicles that ranged from 2015 to 2017 model years. This allowed Lincoln to offer lower prices than competitors - prices ranged from $500 to $950 plus variable pricing on the amount of miles per month. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Lincoln's subscription service isn't doing so hot.
</p>

<p>
	“I’ve been surprised how few people are genuinely interested in that type of ownership. If you had asked me a year ago, I would have said this is the next big thing. A lot of people are struggling to make the math work,” said Lincoln’s director of marketing, sales and service, Robert Parker.
</p>

<p>
	Parker explained that most of the customers who signed up needed a vehicle for a short time like searching for a new vehicle or needing something to get them around while their car was in the shop.
</p>

<p>
	“The amount of people coming out after one or two months is very high. It’s just kind of an interim process,” said Parker.
</p>

<p>
	Lincoln is going to be making some changes to their program, although it is unclear what those might be. Parker threw out the suggestion of involving Lincoln dealers in the service, along with expanding vehicle ability.

<p>
	While the Lincoln MKT will depart from consumer showrooms when the Aviator launches next year, it will be sticking around for some time to serve those in the livery market.
</p>

<p>
	Robert Parker, Lincoln's marketing manager tells Automotive News that the MKT has become a favorite for livery services and funeral homes and they want to keep around for a just a bit longer.
</p>

<p>
	"MKT can fill that role profitably for the company and will for the time being. We don't think it negatively impacts the brand," said Parker.
</p>

<p>
	"It has a place. Just like a long snapper on a football team. Nobody knows their name, or cares, but if he screws up a snap, it's a bad day."
</p>

<p>
	Why not have the Aviator take on that role? According to Parker, the brand doesn't want the new Aviator on rental lots which could be detrimental to their growing cache.
</p>

<p>
	Consumers have completely forgotten about the MKT. Through August, Lincoln has only moved 1,653 MKTs, a 22 percent drop when compared to the same time last year.

<p>
	Lincoln is slowly rising back up with products such as the Navigator, the 2019 Nautilus, and the upcoming Aviator. This has given the brand confidence and is asking dealers in the top 30 U.S. luxury markets to split away from Ford and build stand-alone stores.
</p>

<p>
	"Customers expect the environment to be equal to the product. They want to buy a luxury product in a luxury environment," said Robert Parker, Lincoln's director of marketing, sales, and service.
</p>

<p>
	Executives point out that the stand-alone stores regularly outsell Ford-Lincoln dealers and are responsive for most of the sales gains in recent years.
</p>

<p>
	About 150 dealers are located in the 30 markets that Lincoln says account for 70 percent of the industry's luxury sales. Already, about half of the dealers have either started construction or finished standalone. Lincoln wants the remaining dealers to do the same and is offering some incentives; help finding land for their new store, large bonuses for each vehicle, and allow them to sell the high-end Black Label models. Dealers can say no to this, but executives believe most will make the switch.
</p>

<p>
	"This is the time for us to leverage this opportunity with the world-class products and continue to evolve and step up our client experience," said Greg Wood, Lincoln's sales and service manager.

<p>
	Unlike the Ford Fusion which will end production in 2020, the fate of the Lincoln MKZ is very unclear. Will it go away? Will it become something else? What we do know is that MKZ will be kicking around for a couple more years.
</p>

<p>
	CarsDirect has gone through the order guide for the 2019 MKZ and pulled out some interesting tidbits. The first is the removal of the Black Label trim. Aside from exclusive interior appointments, Black Label also gave owners "membership privileges" such as 4-year maintenance plan, and getting special access to events and restaurants. This is likely an effort to reduce complexity of the MKZ lineup - now comprised of MKZ (base), Reserve I, and Reserve II.
</p>

<p>
	If you desire the 3.0L biturbo V6, you'll need to jump up to the top-line Reserve II. Previously, you could order this engine on mid-level models. Depending on whether you opt for front or all-wheel drive, the V6 produces either 350 or 400 horsepower.
</p>

<p>
	Like many Ford models, the 2019 MKZ will get the Co-Pilot360 suite of active driver assists as standard. This includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control with stop &amp; go capability, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams.
</p>

<p>
	Pricing will now range from $36,990 for the base model and climb to $51,740 for the Reserve II with AWD.

<p>
	Lincoln has been slowing transitioning their nomenclature system from three letter (MK_) to actual names - MKX to Nautilus for example. The next-generation MKC, due in 2020 as a 2021 model will see its name change to Corsair.
</p>

<p>
	Automotive News reports the name was announced last month to Ford and Lincoln dealers at a conference held in Orlando according to those who attended the meeting. Corsair, the name of a pirate ship and a World War II fighter plane first came to light last year when Ford filed a trademark on. The name was last used on a badge engineered model between Ford and Nissan for Australia.
</p>

<p>
	Sources at Ford said the name isn't final and could change before the model goes into production.
</p>

<p>
	Dealers at the meeting were also shown the next-generation Ford Escape, Explorer, <a href="https://www.cheersandgears.com/articles/news/ford/rumorpile-ford-mach-1-ev-crossover-to-use-focus-platform-r5060/" rel="">Mach 1 EV crossover</a>, and the <a href="https://www.cheersandgears.com/articles/news/lincoln/lincoln-planning-to-add-suicide-doors-to-continental-r4935/" rel="">Lincoln Continental with suicide doors</a>.

<p>
	Ever since Ford announced that it would cutting most of their passenger car lineup, questions arose as to what would happen to the subsequent Lincoln models. The Contiental and MKZ share platforms with Ford models that will be cut - Fusion and Taurus.
</p>

<p>
	Thankfully, we have gotten an answer to this. A Lincoln spokesperson told Automobile Magazine they are "committed" to both the Contiental and MKZ. No other information was provided.
</p>

<p>
	But there arises the question as to how long Lincoln is "committed" to both models. The MKZ has seen sales decline from 34,009 in 2014 (the year it was redesigned) to 27,387 units last year. The Continental hasn't been faring any better with only 12,012 units sold in 2017. The Cadillac XTS outsold it by 4,263 units.
</p>

<p>
	As we reported <a href="https://www.cheersandgears.com/articles/news/lincoln/rumorpile-lincoln-continental-to-be-one-and-done-r4918/" rel="">last month in the rumorpile</a>, plans for a next-generation Continental have been canned.

<p>
	Lincoln only established itself in China back in 2015, but it is proving to be quite successful. Last year, Lincoln sold 54,124 models in the country. But the brand has big ambitions and believes it could sell more models in the world's largest auto market if they started building models there.
</p>

<p>
	According to Reuters, Lincoln is planning on building up five new vehicles in China by 2022. Officially, Ford has announced a new crossover for the Chinese market in 2019. But sources tell the news service that the automaker is planning on building the upcoming Aviator in China by late 2019 or early 2020. This will be followed by the successors to the MKC and MKZ, and the Nautilus 2021. Wrapping up Lincoln's China production plans is a small, coupe-like crossover expected in 2022.
</p>

<p>
	“Our localization plans to support the China market are on track and will serve to further drive Lincoln’s growth in China. Beyond that, it would be premature to discuss our future product and production plans or timing,” said Lincoln spokeswoman Angie Kozleski when reached for comment.
</p>

<p>
	Moving production to China would help Lincoln immensely. Currently, Ford imports Lincoln models from the U.S. to China. This means they get hit with a 25 percent tariff and aren't able to compete with the likes of Cadillac and the Germans. Even if China does reduce the tariff on imported vehicles - something Chinese President Xi Jinping promised earlier this week, it might not make a big enough difference for Lincoln to close the gap.
</p>

<p>
	“As long as Lincolns are not manufactured in China, the brand’s sales will no doubt suffer continuously,” said Zhu Kongyuan, Secretary General of the China Auto Dealers Chamber of Commerce.
</p>

<p>
	Not helping matters is the war of words between the U.S. and China, and the possibility of a trade war on the horizon.

	Lincoln is the latest automaker to launch a pilot program for a car subscription service. But this subscription service will differ from the others in one key way; Lincoln will be offering a range of pre-owned 2017 vehicles, not new models.
</p>
<p>
	Lincoln's service will be run through Ford's subscription service, Canvas. Like Lincoln, Canvas allows subscribers to choose from a range of pre-owned Ford vehicles. The service will launch in West Los Angeles and the San Francisco area. No word on pricing, but Lincoln says a monthly payment will have a "mileage package," along with a warranty, maintenance, and insurance. Subscribers will also have access to Lincoln's Pickup and Delivery service where their vehicle will be picked up for servicing and be left with a loaner vehicle.

	No launch date has been announced for Lincoln's program.

<p><strong>NEW YORK, March 28, 2018 –</strong> The Lincoln Motor Company complements its line of elegant vehicles with an exceptional suite of effortless services. With the introduction of the Aviator production preview, Lincoln advances the brand’s holistic approach to vehicle ownership by bringing those services into the vehicle.
</p>
<p>
	Through Lincoln SYNC®, drivers receive prompts, or cues, which are designed to deliver helpful information to them visually on the cluster display of the vehicle, recommending appropriate actions to help them overcome whatever situation they’re facing. Should they run low on fuel, for example, Aviator will notify them and seamlessly connect them with navigation to offer them the closest gas station options.
</p>
<p>
	“Lincoln is developing services that make our clients’ lives effortless, and we consider very carefully how we connect those services,” says Joy Falotico, president, The Lincoln Motor Company. “We look at their lives, how they work and what they do, and then we look at what we can offer them from a Lincoln perspective to make everything more seamless and to save our clients what they value most – their time.”
</p>
<p>
	The brand continues to advance and expand its other client services, which are available now:
</p>
<p><strong>Lincoln Subscription Service</strong>: Lincoln is launching a luxury subscription pilot service offering a range of 2017 pre-owned Lincoln vehicles in West Los Angeles. This expands the pilot offering 2015 Lincoln vehicles in both West Los Angeles and the San Francisco area. All Lincoln subscribers receive exclusive benefits.
</p>
<p>
	With the service, offered through Canvas, clients have a vehicle 24/7 as if it were their own. A monthly payment covers their preferred mileage package, plus comprehensive insurance, warranty, maintenance and roadside assistance.
</p>
<p>
	Lincoln subscribers for 2017 vehicles also will receive the benefits of Pickup &amp; Delivery™, one of the brand’s most popular services, as part of their warranty package.
</p>
<p><strong>Lincoln Pickup &amp; Delivery</strong>: Lincoln’s standard Pickup &amp; Delivery service continues to grow. Available nationally, the service has completed more than 100,000 rides since its inception in 2016 and now plans to expand globally. Pickup &amp; Delivery is designed to respect what Lincoln clients value most – their time.
</p>
<p>
	The Lincoln Valet Service picks up a client’s vehicle for any service need, at any location, provides the client with a complimentary Lincoln loaner vehicle, and returns it in the same manner. Clients can book and track progress of service via the Lincoln Way™ app.
</p>
<p>
	Lincoln is the only luxury automaker to provide standard Pickup &amp; Delivery service as part of the vehicle warranty.
</p>
<p><strong>Lincoln Personal Driver</strong>: Lincoln Personal Driver™, a program first piloted in San Diego and Miami, will expand to Dallas and soon be integrated into the Lincoln Way app.
</p>
<p>
	Personal Driver provides clients with a carefully screened driver when needed – allowing them to enjoy being a passenger from the safety and comfort of their own Lincoln vehicle. The driver can assist with other errands while clients attend to their engagements, which may range from personal or medical appointments to airport transportation.
</p>
<p><strong>Click-to-Purchase</strong>: The Click-to-Purchase online program allows potential clients to complete nearly every step of the buying or leasing process online.
</p>
<p>
	Potential clients can search participating dealer inventories, calculate estimated trade-in values for their current vehicles using the Kelley Blue Book standard, apply for financing and create a payment plan. They’re shown a price for the vehicle with available incentives, as well as estimated taxes and fees based on their zip code.
</p>
<p>
	They then print out a certificate with the pricing information, which also gets sent to the dealer. The pricing is honored for 48 hours. The client can make an appointment with the dealer to purchase or lease the vehicle. The program will be available throughout the U.S. by the end of the year.
</p>
<p><strong>Lincoln and CLEAR</strong>: Lincoln continues its collaboration with CLEAR to provide new Lincoln owners with a complimentary CLEAR membership, allowing them to speed through security checkpoints at participating airports and major arenas nationwide. New Lincoln owners receive a six-month complimentary membership for themselves and a partner. Lincoln Black Label clients receive yearlong memberships.
</p>
<p>
	CLEAR delivers secure and easy travel to more than 30 airports and arenas nationwide. Members go to a dedicated CLEAR lane where they are greeted by a CLEAR team member. After a simple finger tap or blink of an eye, members are escorted straight to security screening, bypassing the usual long lines. According to CLEAR, members walk through security in minutes every time.

<p>
	The Lincoln Continental isn't doing so well. So far in 2018, sales of the model have dropped 30 percent. <a href="https://www.cheersandgears.com/articles/news/lincoln/rumorpile-lincoln-continental-to-be-one-and-done-r4918/" rel="">As we reported earlier this month</a>, there is talk that the Continental could be going away once its lifecycle is completed. But the brand isn't giving up on their flagship sedan just yet.
</p>

<p>
	During the 2018 National Automobile Dealers Association show yesterday, Lincoln showed its dealers a photo of the Continental with rear-hinged (aka suicide) doors and disclosed plans to build it. The move is part of an effort by Lincoln to show commitment to its car lineup. No timeframe or additional details were given. A number of Lincoln dealers who were at the meeting revealed this news under the condition of anonymity to Automotive News.
</p>

<p>
	A Lincoln spokeswoman declined to comment on the suicide doors.
</p>

<p>
	Suicide doors are not new nor unique to Lincoln. Before World War II, a number of brands equipped various models with this type of door. The 1961 Lincoln Continental would feature this type of door, helping make this version of the Continental one of the brand's most iconic models.

<p>
	The grim reaper appears to circling around the Lincoln Continental if a new report is to believed.
</p>

<p>
	Ford Authority has learned from sources familar with Lincoln's future product plans that the Continental will be end after this current-generation. No reason was given as to why the Continental could be shown the door. If we were to hazard a guess, it might be due to low sales number.  Throughout its 18 months of being on sale, Lincoln has only moved 18,846 Continentals.
</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		2016 (Sept to Dec): 5,261
	</li>
	<li>
		2017: 12,012
	</li>
	<li>
		2018 (so far): 1,573
	</li>
</ul>

<p>
	The Continental is doing much better than the Lexus GS (1,009 models) and Acura RLX (285 models) so far this year. But it pales in comparison to the Cadillac XTS (3,163 vehicles, most going to fleets). The 2018 sales figures become more disheartening when you take into account that Lincoln spent close to a billion dollars to launch the Continental.
</p>

<p>
	The Truth About Cars also notes that other models that use Continental's platform, CD4 don't have a bright future. <a href="https://www.cheersandgears.com/articles/news/ford/rumorpile-ford-plans-to-end-fusion-production-in-north-america-r4719/" rel="">As we reported previously in the rumorpile</a>, the Ford Fusion will not be built in North America after 2020. <a href="https://www.cheersandgears.com/articles/news/ford/ford-cans-plans-for-fusion-redesign-r4758/" rel="">Plans for a redesigned Fusion </a>have also been canned. We wouldn't be surprised if this carries over to the sister MKZ model.
</p>

<p>
	Ford has been working on a new CD6 platform that reportedly can be configured for front-, rear-, and all-wheel drive. A source tells The Truth About Cars that this platform would have underpinned the next-generation Continental, MKZ, Ford Fusion, and Mustang under CEO Mark Fields. With a new CEO, those plans have changed as the only models that will use CD6 are the next-generation Explorer and sister Lincoln model.

	Lincoln could be one of the next automakers to announce plans for electrifying their lineup. Reuters has learned from sources that Lincoln is planning to offer hybrid versions of all of their models beginning in 2022. One source said that the brand is also considering one or more electric-only models. This is a key to Lincoln's future in China where the country will be requiring automakers to sell a certain percentage of EVs.
</p>

<p>
	Plans for Lincoln's electrification could happen as early as October 2nd, where Ford CEO Jim Hackett will update investors on the automaker's strategy. Sources said Lincoln has been working on this before Hackett became CEO.
</p>

<p>
	A Ford spokesman declined to comment.
</p>

<p>
	We already know that Ford is working on a hybrid variant of the Navigator and a plug-in version of the MKC that are <a href="https://www.cheersandgears.com/articles/news/ford/ford-plans-plug-in-hybrid-escape-hybrid-full-size-suvs-r4489/" rel="">expected to launch in 2019</a>.

Black Label provides personalized shopping with dedicated personnel in the showroom, online, or in locations convenient to clients. Specially trained Black Label experience liaisons meet prospective clients at their home, office, or anywhere within 30 miles of the showroom to begin the experience. Acting as a personal shopping assistant, the liaison helps clients identify their ideal vehicle by sharing paint and wood trim samples, as well as material swatches. <li>Date Night: This extended test drive allows qualified buyers the chance to experience a Lincoln vehicle for up to 48 hours. In 2015, Date Night resulted in more than 11,000 sessions at select dealers, prompting nearly an 11 percent increase in Lincoln purchases. <p>Ford has big ambitions for Lincoln in the Chinese marketplace. CEO Mark Fields has said that China could eclipse the U.S. as the biggest market for the luxury brand. During the first year of selling vehicles in the country, Lincoln moved over 11,000 vehicles. According to Fields, this is the fastest start for a luxury-auto brand there “in recent history.”</p>
<p> </p>
<p>“It’s different in the U.S. than in China. In China, our heritage plays very strong. Our favorable opinion in China is actually ahead of Lexus and on the factor of prestige, we’re actually ahead of Audi,” said Kumar Galhotra, head of Lincoln.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Ford wants to take the next step and possibly start building Lincolns in China. Bloomberg has learned from sources that the blue oval is in talks with its partner in China, Changan Automobile Group. The possible location is in Chongqing and would serve the Chinese market, along with acting as an Asian export base. One source says production could begin as early as 2018, but another says it could be 2020 or later as these discussions are still in the preliminary phase.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>“There’s no detailed plan at the moment” on producing the Lincoln brand in China, said Zhu Huarong, president of Chongqing Changan Automobile Co. on the sidelines of a fourm earlier this week.</p>

<p>The Lincoln Continental is turning out to be very popular with potential buyers. Automotive News reports that Lincoln has a list of 40,000 people who are interested buying the Continental.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>“People are asking a lot of questions about the car. This is the most buzz I’ve seen in a long, long time,” said Dan Marks, chairman of the Lincoln National Dealer Council.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The list in question is the Continental “hand raiser” list, comprising of consumers who have provided contact information to follow-up once more information is provided. According to Matt VanDyke, director of global Lincoln, this list is longer than the one for the MKX crossover. But trying to get interested consumers into buyers is going to be a difficult task. One that could make or break the Continental. </p>

<p><img src="https://cdn.cheersandgears.com/monthly_2016_08/d8cc03c35e792a1e9e22a9705a9cf403.jpg.ab25a1b7cbf87995831225af8a275f16.jpg" /></p>

<p>With a updated MKZ and a new Continental readying for its debut, it seems Lincoln is on the right track. But what does the future hold for them? Those who were hoping for a return of Mark coupe series will be somewhat disappointed. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>"We've said we need to cover the core segments first. Luxury coupes and sports cars are not the first place we need to go," said Matt VanDyke, director of global Lincoln to Automotive News.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>That means focusing on their current lineup and making improvements. One of those improvements is updating its look. The 2017 MKZ is one of the first models to see this update with a new rectangular grille first shown on the Continental concept. Along with this, Lincoln is trying its best to separate itself from Ford. One of those is the MKZ not having the EcoBoost name on its turbocharged engines.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>"If it is critical to the customer experience, we would change it," said Lincoln President Kumar Galhotra.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Lincoln is also readying two new products - not counting the Continental - that will be arriving by 2020. The luxury automaker is keeping quiet as to what those models will be. Sources tell Automotive News that one of new model will be a large crossover to slot between the midsize MKX and large Navigator SUV.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>But a key point many Lincoln executives are quick to point that the luxury brand still has a long way to go in relevance. While sales are on the increase and early signs are pointing to some sort of relevancy in the market, Lincoln is still an unknown player in the luxury marketplace.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>"The products are there," said Dave Sullivan, an analyst with AutoPacific. "But I don't think they're hitting the targets they need to hit in the competitive world. I don't think anyone was expecting that yet, though. It's a 10- to 15-year plan."</p>

<p>When the Lincoln Continental begins production sometime next year, it won't be at Chicago Assembly plant where the current MKS is built. Ford announced this week that it will be phasing out the MKS in 2016. This announcement came at a event where the company was promoting the increase of Ford Explorer output at Ford’s Chicago plant.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>“Chicago Assembly Plant is vital to our global manufacturing footprint and will continue to manufacture the Ford Taurus, Ford Explorer and Police Interceptor vehicles even after we phase out production of the MKS in 2016. We will continue to match production to demand,” the company said in a statement.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Automotive News says this statement echoes a comment made by Ford's President of the Americas, Joe Hinrichs earlier in the week.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>“When the Continental comes out next year, the Lincoln fades away.But once it fades away, we’re going to use that capacity to make more Explorers,” said Hinrichs to the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>So where will the Continental be built? Industry sources say the Continental could be produced at Ford's Flat Rock, MI plant where the Fusion is built. The Continental uses a longer version of the Fusion's platform, so building it at Flat Rock makes sense.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>A Ford spokesman decline to comment on the Contiental's production plan, saying the location would be revealed closer to the vehicle's launch next year.</p>

<p>What's in store for the Lincoln MKT? If a report from The Truth About Cars has any idea, it looks like it could be going to a normal crossover shape.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>A source tells TTAC that engineers are working on a project Known internally as ‘Aviator’. This project will be using the next-generation Ford Explorer as a base. No report as to what platform this will use, but some believe its the <a href="http://www.cheersandgears.com/_/lincoln-news/rumorpile-ford-is-dumping-money-at-lincoln-r2430" rel="">upcoming D6 platform</a> which will allow for front, rear, and all-wheel drive configurations. The source goes onto say that there will not be a next-generation Ford Flex.</p>
<p> </p>
<p> “We do not comment on speculation. MKT continues to be present in our lineup, with a new model in 2015. By 2020, we expect to expand the segments that we participate in by adding two new nameplates to the Lincoln brand. We have not provided any indications about the products or their names," said Lincoln spokesman Stéphane Cesareo in a comment to TTAC.</p>

<p>One of the biggest issues with Lincoln deals with their nomenclature. The MK-insert letter naming system has brought confusion buyers and people who cover the industry. Saying you own a MKZ for example either meant no one understood what you said or had people wondering if that was the sedan or a crossover. But Automotive News says that common sense has possibly returned to Lincoln and that actual names is in the cards.</p>
<p>“I get it. I know MKX and C and Z and T. I’ve studied them very well. I know them well, but we also understand the issue. It’s, frankly, where the auto industry -- the premium industry -- has gone, if you look at all the nameplates. But another way Lincoln could distinguish itself is to leverage its heritage. So I’ll leave it at that,” said Joe Hinrichs, Ford Motor Co.’s president of the Americas.</p>
<p>“Without divulging the future. We’re very excited about the Continental name and the attention it’s gotten.”</p>
<p>A lot of this talk sparked when Lincoln pulled the covers off the Continental Concept and became a big hit.</p>

<p>A few weeks after Lincoln revealed the Continental Concept at the New York Auto Show, spy photographers have caught a Continental test mule running around Dearborn.</p>
<p>Lincoln has gone record saying that the production model of the Continental will look largely to the concept, and judging from the spy shots, it seems Lincoln is sticking with that. Comparing the spy shots to shots of the concept show both share similar proportions and a number of key design elements such as the large grille.</p>
<p>Power is rumored to be the 3.0L EcoBoost V6 found in the concept. As for what will underpin the Continental, speculation has it being a stretched version of the CD4 platform - what underpins the Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ. It's unknown at this time whether the Continental will offer front and all-wheel drive, or just all-wheel drive.</p>

<p>It was last August at Pebble Beach where <a href="http://www.cheersandgears.com/_/lincoln-news/lincoln-previews-black-label-line-r1722" rel="">Lincoln previewed the Black Label line</a>. The new line features a higher level of personal service and luxury upgrades for buyers. Think BMW Individual or Mercedes-Benz designo but with more perks.</p>
<p>“Black Label represents a new level of Lincoln luxury in terms of product execution and personal service. This combination of elevated service, materials and execution will set Lincoln Black Label apart,” aid Matt VanDyke, director of global Lincoln.</p>
<p>The line will first be available on the MKC crossover and MKZ sedan, and begins with a choice of four different interior themes:</p>
<ul>
<li>Indulgence: "Inspired by the allure of rich, sumptuous chocolate." Truffle-colored Venetian leather is used on the seats, doors and armrests. Alcantara is wrapped around the pillars and roof panel. Ziricote wood trim (mostly seen on classical instruments and yachts) line the doors and dash.<br>
</li>
<li>Center Stage: "Inspired by the drama of theater arts and fashion." Jet Black leather covers the seats with red stitching to provide some contrast. Alcantara in the same Jet Black color covers the roof and pillars. The MKC gets Black Stripe wood trim, while the MKZ makes do with Onyx wood trim.<br>
</li>
<li>Modern Heritage: "A fresh take on a classic black-and-white color theme." Vianca white Venetian leather seats is paired with a Jet Black headliner. Crimson Red accents and Black Argento wood trim on the door panels and dash finish the look.<br>
</li>
<li>Oasis: "Inspired by the warmth and serenity of a spa." Cream and tan are the primary colors for this theme with American Walnut Burl wood trim on the dash and doors.<br>
</li>
</ul>
<p></p>
<p>As for the vehicles themselves, the Black Label MKC and MKZ will be equivalent to the 'Reserve' trim level, with the only difference being the 'C' and 'Z' being blacked-out.</p>
<p>The Black Label trim level also includes a premium maintenance plan that covers wear items for up to four years/50,000 miles, annual detailing, and car washes at any time. You can also have your vehicle and loaner picked-up at your house or work. Also, owners will be able to access online concierge service which features special benefits such as making reservations and getting special treatment at a collection of restaurants around the country.</p>
<p>The Black Label adds $5,995 to the price of the Lincoln MKC and MKZ. At the moment, you can order a Black Label model at 32 Lincoln dealers around the country. Lincoln is planning to expand that to 200 dealers by 2015. It also plans to expand the Black Label trim to other models in due time.</p>

<p><strong>DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 17, 2014 –</strong> Redefining what it means to shop for, purchase and own a luxury automobile, The Lincoln Motor Company is delivering Lincoln Black Label.</p>
<p>Unveiling details of a dealer network that offers personalized service as exceptional as the vehicles it sells, Lincoln announced its plan to provide an enhanced shopping and service experience to complement luxuriously appointed Black Label vehicles that surround occupants in premium materials.</p>
<p>When the program launches in December, 32 dedicated Lincoln Black Label dealers in six states will provide showroom space dedicated to serving Black Label customers. Lincoln plans to expand the network nationwide in late 2015.</p>
<p>At launch, Black Label will be offered on the 2015 Lincoln MKZ midsize premium sedan and the 2015 Lincoln MKC small premium utility. Ultimately, Black Label versions of all new Lincoln vehicles will be available in the U.S. Black Label will be launched in China later in 2015 under the name Presidential.</p>
<p>"Black Label represents a new level of Lincoln luxury in terms of product execution and personal service," said Matt VanDyke, director, global Lincoln. "This combination of elevated service, materials and execution will set Lincoln Black Label apart."</p>
<p><strong>Premium materials meet exquisite craftsmanship</strong></p>
<p>The first generation of Lincoln Black Label design themes drew inspiration from a variety of sources – from fashion and food, to luxury travel and architecture. Each was created to make driving a Lincoln a more personal, emotive experience. Set to debut on the Lincoln MKZ and Lincoln MKC are Indulgence, Center Stage, Modern Heritage and Oasis.</p>
<p>All four interior themes showcase some of the finest automotive materials, including Alcantara®-wrapped headliner, pillars, package tray and accent details; Venetian leather on the seating surfaces, armrests and doors; fully leather-wrapped and stitched instrument panel, console and doors; subtle branding elements with unique Lincoln perforation designs; and elegant trims of crafted woods or woods rare to the automotive industry.</p>
<p>"Our goal is to provide an ultimate sensory experience by creating luxurious environments with a variety of unique color themes that resonate with customers," said Janet Seymour, Lincoln color and materials design manager. "We achieve this by using the most premium materials with meticulous attention to detail."</p>
<p>Eagle Ottawa created Venetian leather specifically for use in Black Label vehicles. Less than 1 percent of raw hides worldwide meet the stringent softness and durability requirements for becoming Venetian leather, making it an exclusive Black Label offering.</p>
<p>Venetian leather, unique for its lightly finished, fine-grained texture, is produced to reveal the natural characteristics of the hide. Its use in Black Label design themes signals a renewed emphasis on the hand-crafted elegance that has long defined the Lincoln brand.</p>
<p>Alcantara is a soft, premium material favored in a wide spectrum of luxury industries including fashion, aviation and marine for its aesthetic and sensory qualities.</p>
<p>Designer woods – which appear on the instrument panel and doors with all Black Label themes – include Black Stripe (Center Stage Lincoln MKC), Onyx (Center Stage Lincoln MKZ) and Argento (Modern Heritage).</p>
<p>All were uniquely created for use in Black Label, with color accents and patterns that complement the design theme. Ziricote, used in Indulgence, is an exotic wood from South America featuring beautiful natural grain, pattern and coloration with no added dyes or stains. Open-pore American Walnut Burl has a natural authentic beauty that harmonizes with the soothing, tonal interior colors of Oasis.</p>
<p><strong>Lincoln Black Label exteriors: Understated elegance</strong></p>
<p>While delivering sumptuous interior luxury, Lincoln Black Label vehicles will feature understated exterior cues.</p>
<p>Customers can choose from a palette of standard exterior colors exclusive to Black Label: Black Tie, Confidential White and Crystal Silver are core colors, and are offered with all interior design themes. Other standard exterior color choices are Chroma Flame, a deep red; Chroma Couture, a rich brown; and Notorious, a vibrant blue.</p>
<p>Lincoln MKZ and Lincoln MKC Black Label models come standard with 19-inch painted aluminum wheels. MKZ owners can upgrade to 19-inch polished aluminum wheels, while MKC buyers can upgrade to 20-inch polished multi-piece aluminum wheels with premium-painted pockets accented with bright chrome inserts.</p>
<p>All Black Label wheels feature a unique Lincoln insignia on the center of the rim. Unique badging at the rear serves as a subtle callout. A bold, high-gloss black with a chrome "Z" or "C" distinguishes vehicles in the Black Label family.</p>
<p>"The Black Label exterior is purposely understated," VanDyke said. "From the outside, few people might recognize that it is a Black Label vehicle. It's all about comfort on the inside, creating a luxurious experience for the driver and passengers."</p>
<p><strong>Four exclusive Lincoln Black Label design themes</strong></p>
<p>While there are subtle design variances between Lincoln MKC and Lincoln MKZ Black Label themes tied to unique vehicle architecture, Lincoln color and materials designers worked from the same color and material palettes for consistency.</p>
<p>Black Label design themes available on the MKZ and MKC are:</p>
<p>– Indulgence: Inspired by the allure of rich, sumptuous chocolate, Indulgence is defined by Truffle-colored Venetian leather featuring an antiquing process to infuse richness and depth on the seats, doors and armrests. Ganache-colored Alcantara extends the richness to the headliner, pillars and package tray.</p>
<p>Seat leather features an elegant linking-L perforation pattern with black accent stitching. Ziricote wood trim, a material typically reserved for use in yachts and classical instruments, adds an elegant touch on the instrument panel and doors.</p>
<p>– Center Stage: Inspired by the drama of theater arts and fashion, Center Stage includes a Jet Black cabin with Foxfire Red accent stitching on the doors and seats. Jet Black Alcantara headliner, pillars and package tray surround Jet Black Venetian leather seats that feature a diamond-L perforation pattern.</p>
<p>Onyx wood trim in the Lincoln MKZ and Black Stripe wood trim in the Lincoln MKC are equally stunning accents.</p>
<p>– Modern Heritage: Offering a fresh take on a classic black-and-white color theme, Modern Heritage features Jet Black upper door panels with Vianca white Venetian leather seats and center console.</p>
<p>Seat leather is accentuated by an exclusive diamond-L perforation pattern. Subtle Crimson Red accents and Black Argento wood trim on the instrument panel and doors add a dash of elegance.</p>
<p>– Oasis: Inspired by the warmth and serenity of a spa, Oasis leans on Far East influences to create a peaceful escape. The interior features the colors of Oasis and Island for a soft, harmonious environment. Venetian leather seats in the soft Oasis color are accented by a darker Island-colored instrument panel and center console. Oasis-colored Alcantara covers the headliner, pillars and package tray.</p>
<p>American Walnut Burl wood trim appliqués with a natural open-pore finish continue the earth-tone theme on the instrument panel and doors.</p>
<p><strong>A more elegant car-buying, car-owning experience</strong></p>
<p>Lincoln Black Label will provide personalized shopping with dedicated personnel in the showroom, online or in locations more convenient for customers.</p>
<p>A specially trained Black Label experience liaison will meet prospective clients at their home, office or anywhere within 30 miles of the showroom to begin the experience. Acting as a personal shopping assistant, the liaison will help customers identify their ideal vehicle by sharing paint samples, material swatches and wood trim samples.</p>
<p>In addition to these tangible samples, a detailed tablet presentation allows customers to fully understand all that is unique about each of the four Black Label offerings.</p>
<p>"The Lincoln Black Label dealer network is designed to cater to our customers on an individual level," said Kevin Cour, director of sales and service, Lincoln. "The 32 dealers participating at launch have committed to providing a level of service that is as unique as the vehicles they'll be selling."</p>
<p>Lincoln Black Label owners will enjoy special privileges, such as:</p>
<ul>
<li>Four years or 50,000-mile extended premium service and maintenance coverage on wear items such as shock absorbers, engine belts and hoses, brake pads and linings, wiper blades and spark plugs<br>
</li>
<li>No-cost rental vehicle while any covered maintenance is performed<br>
</li>
<li>Remote service that lets Lincoln Black Label customers have their vehicle picked up and returned (within a 30-mile radius) while maintenance is performed<br>
</li>
<li>Annual vehicle detailing<br>
</li>
<li>Anytime car washes<br>
</li>
<li>Culinary Collection membership: Black Label customers enjoy access to a curated list of restaurants from coast to coast, with noted chefs who will provide an at-your-service dining experience.<br>
</li>
</ul>
<p></p>
<p>Black Label privileges, upgraded materials and design themes are priced at $5,995.</p>
<p><strong>Building the Lincoln Black Label dealer network</strong></p>
<p>The program launches in dedicated showrooms in December, with Black Label versions of the Lincoln MKZ and Lincoln MKC available for sale. Thirty-two dealerships in Michigan, New York, New Jersey, Florida, California and Texas will have space dedicated to Lincoln Black Label customers.</p>

<p>For many years, Lincoln has been known as the brand that sells glorified Fords. But according to Reuters, that could be changing in the near future. </p>
<p>Mark Fields, the blue oval's new chairman is is going ahead multiyear, multibillion-dollar overhaul of Lincoln that will include a new premium vehicle platform. Ford's board and executive chairman Bill Ford have given the go ahead in this plan.</p>
<p>"It's really important for us to have a relevant and vibrant luxury brand. You need to make the investment and build this brand over time," said Fields.</p>
<p>Sources tell Reuters that the new platform, named D6, will be able to be configured in front, rear, and all-wheel drive. This platform will underpin a number of new sedans and crossovers when it goes into production in 2019. </p>
<p>In the meantime, Lincoln will be updating its current lineup. First up will be the MKX crossover in the spring, followed by the MKS sedan in 2016. </p>

<p>The 1998 Lincoln Navigator created the full size luxury SUV segment, but the Navigator has lost the spotlight since then. Lincoln hopes to get it back with the redesigned 2015 Navigator. Lincoln took the wraps off the next version of the Navigator today.</p>
<p>One thing the Navigator has never been is subtle and that trait carries over with the 2015 model. Up front is a brash interpretation of Lincoln's split grille design sporting 5 chunky, horizontal bars in each grille portal. The light cluster carry LED accent lighting while the headlights are the more traditional HID type. The power tailgate sports a full width LED tail light design, that some have suggested is reminiscent of the <a href="http://www.cheersandgears.com/_/auto-show-news/ny-auto-show/new-york-auto-show-2014-dodge-durango-r1486" rel="">2014 Dodge Durango</a>, but is actually just the same theme seen on the coming <a href="http://www.cheersandgears.com/_/auto-show-news/la-auto-show/la-auto-show-the-veil-drops-on-the-2015-lincoln-mkc-r1921" rel="">2015 Lincoln MKC crossover</a>, flipped upside down.</p>
<p></p>

</div>
Inside, the theme is decidedly more conservative. Sticking with the dual cowl dashboard design of the current generation, the layout of the 2015 Navigator feels at once fresh yet familiar. It comes swathed in hand wrapped leather and natural grain wood trim. Ford's now ubiquitous Sync system features an 8 inch display on the center stack and a 4.2 inch LCD in the instrument cluster. Redundant hardware controls for climate and radio are placed below.<p></p>

As we reported previously, the <a href="http://www.cheersandgears.com/_/ford-news/next-lincoln-navigator-to-go-ecoboost-only-expedition-to-get-50-r1431" rel="">2015 Navigator will no longer have a V8 under the hood</a> but will instead be powered by an Ecobost V6. Producing at least 370 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque, a 60 horsepower and 65 lb-ft jump over the outgoing 5.4 Liter V8, the 3.5 liter V6 Ecoboost Navigator will lay claim to best in class towing. Power is routed through a 6-speed automatic with rear-wheel and 4-wheel drive configurations available.<p>As with the current model, the 2015 Navigator will be offered in both standard length and extended length models.</p>
<p>The 2015 Lincoln Navigator is a fresh look on a vehicle that has been fading in its segment in spite of arguably being the segment's founder. It faces stiff competition from an <a href="http://www.cheersandgears.com/_/cadillac-news/2015-cadillac-escalade-live-reveal-r1835" rel="">all new 2015 Cadillac Escalade</a>, the excellent <a href="http://www.cheersandgears.com/_/auto-show-news/ny-auto-show/new-york-2012-mercedes-benz-gl-updated-r545" rel="">Mercedes GL-Class</a>, and a soon to be seen <a href="http://www.cheersandgears.com/_/audi-news/rumorpile-next-audi-q7-heads-back-to-the-drawing-board-r1725" rel="">Audi Q7</a>. In its favor, 70% of Lincoln Navigator buyers return to buy a new one.</p>
<p>Do you think this new 2015 Navigator has the direction to take on these market foes? Sound off below.</p>

<p>Lincoln has been having a rough year so far and Ford wants to help out. The way they are doing is causing an uproar with their dealers.</p>
<p>According to Bloomberg, Ford has implemented a bonus program for Lincoln dealers in certain markets that is known as stair-step incentives. Stair-step incentives work by giving higher bonus once a dealer sells a certain number of vehicles. For example, if you sell ten models, you will get a $500 bonus per model. Sell an additional ten models and the bonus increases to $1,000. Hence the stair-step.</p>
<p>“There are some inherently unfair aspects of stair-step programs. They’re confusing to the market, they’re not necessarily good for customer satisfaction, and when you see a burst of sales at the end of a stair-step program, there’s always a payback. Right after that, the sales dip,” said Don Chalmers, owner of Ford and Lincoln dealerships near Santa Fe and Albuquerque, New Mexico.</p>
<p>Confusingly, Ford is sending mixed messages on this matter. Ken Czubay, Ford’s vice president of U.S. marketing, sales and service said Ford doesn't use stair-step incentives. Meanwhile, Ford's sales analyst Erich Merkle said the company is using the incentives for “selective legacy vehicles”. In this case, the “selective legacy vehicles” are the MKS, MKT, and MKX.</p>

<p>Sometimes you have to admit the truth, even if its harsh. Case in point; Ford’s design chief J Mays recently told The Detroit News that Lincoln is 'not true luxury'.</p>
<p>“No, we’re not true luxury. We’re in an investment stage with Lincoln. We’ve probably got a 10-year investment to make,” Mays said.</p>
<p>Its easy to see Mays' point. Most of Lincoln's lineup are tarted-up Ford products. The first real product that shows Lincoln is trying to change its ways is the new MKZ. The model has some features such as a panoramic sunroof and push-button transmission that are unique to Lincoln. Mays explained that Lincoln has a “whole list of things” it will implement in future cars.</p>
<p>“Every brand needs to have a DNA and a unique selling point and things in the vehicle that make you think, ‘That’s that particular brand.’”</p>

<p>Lincoln is previewing their next step in revitalization with the introduction of the Black Label line at Pebble Beach today. Lincoln says Black Label is 'a collection of ultra-premium exterior and interior themes mated to an even higher level of personal services and experiences that mark the next step in the brand’s reinvention.'</p>
<p>Think of Black Label as being akin to Audi Exclusive, BMW Individual, and Mercedes-Benz designo. All offer a variety of special leathers, paint colors, wood treatments, and other stylized treatments. However in the case of Lincoln, Black Label will be offered in three different trim levels or themes as the brand calls them.</p>
<ul>
<li>Center Stage: Inspired by fashion and theater. Features Jet Black interior with a Foxfire Red headliner. Exterior comes in a Black Tie paint color.<br>
</li>
<li>Indulgence: Inspired by the lure of premium chocolate to ignite a rich sensory experience. Features Truffle-colored Venetian leather and Ziricote wood trim. Comes in a Chroma Couture exterior. <br>
</li>
<li>Modern Heritage: Features a white interior with distinctive wood trim. Exterior painted in a Confidential White tri-coat.<br>
</li>
</ul>
<p></p>
<p>“The new Lincoln Motor Company is built on three foundational elements – design, quality and personal service; Black Label represents our highest expression of these elements,” said Jim Farley, executive vice president of Global Marketing, Sales and Service and Lincoln.</p>
<p>“The progressive luxury client craves to know the story behind the products and services they engage – they want to feel that personal connection. That’s at the heart of Black Label; we want to provide special experiences for every Black Label client before, during and after they choose their new Lincoln vehicle.”</p>
<p>Black Label will be available on all Lincoln models starting in late 2014.</p>

<p>AUG 15, 2013 | PEBBLE BEACH, CALIF.</p>
<p><span style="font-size:18px"><strong>NEW LINCOLN BLACK LABEL COLLECTION FOR THE LUXURY CUSTOMER PREVIEWED AT PEBBLE BEACH</strong></span></p>
<p><strong>&gt;</strong> Lincoln Black Label previews a new and higher level expression of Lincoln design, style, materials, craftsmanship and personal service and experience</p>
<p><strong>&gt;</strong> Ultra-premium materials and meticulous execution complement three stylish and sophisticated themes from Lincoln Design team</p>
<p><strong>&gt;</strong> Brand and dealers to collaborate on consistent, personal and integrated customer experience that respects the luxury of time</p>
<p>Lincoln, the luxury automobile brand, today previewed Lincoln Black Label, a collection of ultra-premium exterior and interior themes mated to an even higher level of personal services and experiences that mark the next step in the brand’s reinvention.</p>
<p>Showcased on an all-new MKZ and the MKC Concept, Lincoln Black Label eventually will be available on every new Lincoln vehicle. This full-range availability enables more vehicles in the model portfolio to be equipped with this higher-level expression of luxury than currently offered by any competitor.</p>
<p>Lincoln and Black Label dealers will collaborate to create a consistent, personal and integrated client shopping and ownership experience. The entire process will provide respect for the luxury of time with a complete suite of elevated customer services to be unveiled at the time of Black Label market introduction.</p>
<p>Limited-edition design themes, ultra-premium materials, meticulous execution and elevated client service will be the hallmarks of Lincoln Black Label.</p>
<p>Black Label was conceived and designed by a select Lincoln Design team to reflect the breadth of the brand. In its earlier days, Lincoln was a favorite vehicle for unique, sophisticated and luxurious bespoke exterior and interior themes. This has inspired a new direction to provide a higher level of luxury available to all clients of the brand – not just those who purchase the most expensive, top-of-range models.</p>
<p>Creating a family of elegant themes that represents confidence and sophistication, each of the three interior environments presented at the preview is coordinated with exclusive exterior colors.</p>
<p>The materials for each interior environment have been selected to reflect the team’s desire to create a warm and sophisticated package that also tells a story.</p>
<p>After starting with nearly two dozen concepts, the Lincoln Black Label design team honed in on a select few themes, each inspired by trends in fashion, food and architecture as well as lifestyles and experiences.</p>
<p>“Each of the theme-based offerings from Black Label is designed with a specific customer profile in mind,” said Susan Lampinen, group chief designer, Color and Material Design. “Lincoln Black Label will offer a variety of choices as well as a narrative that speaks to luxury clients – we want them to feel a personal connection with the theme and see themselves in the car.”</p>
<p><strong>Lincoln Black Label themes</strong></p>
<p><strong>Center Stage,</strong> inspired by fashion and theater, is designed for the most expressive clients. The Jet Black interior is highlighted by a Foxfire Red headliner, capturing the drama of being in a dark theater with the impact of a rich, deep red accent color. Alcantara suede with uniquely designed perforation adds plush texture to the doors and seats.</p>
<p><strong>Indulgence</strong> is inspired by the lure of premium chocolate to ignite a rich sensory experience. Ganache- and Truffle-colored Venetian leather with a subtle antiqued finish adds richness and depth. The Ziricote wood trim features a beautiful natural grain and color inherent in the wood with no added dyes or stains. This wood - new to the automotive industry - is often used in high-end yachts.</p>
<p><strong>Modern Heritage</strong> offers a fresh take on the classic black-and-white interior with subtle red accents. Designed for the client who appreciates a clean, modern aesthetic, the soft white interior is warm and inviting. Renewed and engineered wood trim - imbued with metal flake between its layers - creates a sparkling effect to stylishly highlight this modern classic design.</p>
<p>The selection of Lincoln MKZs with Black Label execution includes:</p>
<ul>
<li>Indulgence with Chroma Couture exterior and Truffle interior<br>
</li>
<li>Center Stage with Black Tie exterior and Jet Black with Foxfire Red accents interior<br>
</li>
<li>Modern Heritage with Confidential White tri-coat exterior with Vianca interior<br>
</li>
</ul>
<p></p>
<p>MKC Concept features Chroma Flame exterior with its Modern Heritage theme.</p>
<p>Material selection, meticulous execution and craftsmanship will elevate Lincoln Black Label vehicles. Lincoln Black Label materials experts examined options from the entire sphere of luxury offerings to create the Black Label palette.</p>
<p>“Because Lincoln Black Label is our highest offering of the expression of personal luxury, we took our materials selections personally as well,” said Lampinen. “We believe this personal touch and involvement will help separate Lincoln from other offerings.”</p>
<p><strong>Specialty leathers:</strong> Carefully selected and engineered to deliver the softest feel with a premium appearance, the seats are made from Venetian leather. Custom-made for Lincoln Black Label, less than 1 percent of hides globally meet the requirements for becoming Venetian leather.</p>
<p>The instrument panel, center console and doors are leather-wrapped and stitched. Subtle Diamond-L and Linking-L perforation patterns specially designed for Black Label accent the seats and door trim.</p>
<p><strong>Natural woods:</strong> Sought out globally and selected for maximum richness of color and grain, these woods for the instrument panel, door appliqués and steering wheel bezel complement the themes. The Ziricote wood used with Indulgence was selected because its natural beauty resonates without stains or dyes.</p>
<p><strong>Alcantara</strong><strong>®</strong><strong>:</strong> A long-recognized premium material associated with high design in a variety of industries, including interior design, consumer electronics and aviation, as well as automotive, Lincoln designers specifically selected it to wrap the headliners, visors and pillars and to trim the floor mats.</p>
<p>Clients interested in acquiring a Lincoln Black Label-equipped vehicle will find the shopping and selection process personal and enjoyable. Whether a client’s first point of contact is through the Lincoln website or at the dealership, Black Label experts will guide them through the process. Lincoln Black Label is intended to launch near the end of 2014.</p>
<p>“Lincoln Black Label will offer an experience for our clients that will engage them, not overwhelm them,” said Farley. “Lincoln Black Label is another important step in our brand’s reinvention to appeal to a whole new group of progressive luxury clients.”</p>

<p>After four months of delays due to extensive quality checks, Lincoln dealers are finally getting MKZs. Jim Farley, Ford's executive vice president of global marketing, sales, service and Lincoln told reporters yesterday dealers are now stocked with MKZs.</p>
<p>"Although we're encouraged, we're far from victory," Farley said.</p>
<p>Farley also indicated that the brand anticipates selling more than 4,000 MKZs in April. This is coming from indications big gains in important markets like California which saw increase in market share for Lincoln.</p>

<p>More MKZs are coming! That's what in essence Ford's president of the Americas, Joe Hinrichs said last Thursday after a supplier event at Ford's Dearborn campus. </p>
<p>"We expect to have a rather large amount of vehicles in the delivery process … in the last 10 days of the month," Hinrichs said.</p>
<p>Hinrichs explained that Lincoln MKZs aren't being shipped no longer being shipped from Ford's Hermosillo, Mexico plant, to another plant in Flat Rock for additional inspection and repairs. The reason for the additional inspection and repairs is due to Ford's recent track record of new vehicles not having a smooth introduction (see the Escape and Fusion as examples).</p>
<p>When asked about problems Lincoln were addressing with the MKZ, Hinrichs didn't go into detail.</p>
<p>"I don't want to blame the supply base. We've had our own internal issues as well."</p>
<p>Even with the delay, Hinrichs said Lincoln has minimized the number of customers going to another brand by offering extended leases until MKZs reach dealers. </p>
<p>We're not quite how many customers Lincoln has kept since sales in last two months have dropped by 25%, mostly in part of the small number of MKZs on dealer lots.</p>

<p>When Lincoln pulled the plug on the Town Car, livery companies cried. For them it was the perfect vehicle since it offered the right amount of and bulletproof reliability that is needed for this line of work. Lincoln is offering Livery companies the MKT Town Car which offers more space than the outgoing Town Car, but it doesn't seem many liveries are picking one up. Because of this, automakers like Cadillac and even Toyota are courting livery companies to their sedans.</p>
<p>Realizing that not all livery companies want a MKT in their fleet, Lincoln announced they would be making a livery version of the MKS sedan. Shown at the 2013 International LCT Show, the MKS Livery sedan will be available in either front-wheel or all-wheel drive versions and have a starting price of $43,865.</p>

<p>Right now isn't a good time to be Lincoln. Executives recently had to deal with frustrated dealers at National Automobile Dealers Association Convention and Expo in Orlando, FL. The frustrations stem from the lack of the new MKZ on dealer lots. Don Chalmers, a Ford and Lincoln dealer from New Mexico tells The Detroit News that with the lack of inventory, they're losing sales from customers who want to buy.</p>
<p>Lincoln sales in January were to say in the least, abysmal. Total sales was around 4,191 vehicles, an 18% drop when compared to last year. MKZ sales suffered badly; Lincoln only sold 453 vehicles for the month, despite the MKZ having the biggest number of pre-orders in Lincoln history.</p>
<p>The small number of sales is due to the numerous quality checks going on at Ford's Hermosillo, Mexico assembly plant to make sure each MKZ is just right. In fact, Ford is shipping some of the MKZs to a factory in Flat Rock, Michigan for a closer inspection. Analysts believe Ford is going to these measures to to avoid therecall issues that have plagued recent launches including the Escape and Fusion.</p>
<p>Ford executives say Lincoln dealers won't have a full inventory of MKZs till April.</p>

<p>Ford Motor Company has set an ambitious sales goal for the Lincoln Motor Company in 2013. A source tells The Detroit News that at a recent dealer meeting, Ford announced an 18% rise in sales for next year would constitute a "good year".</p>
<p>For a brand that has experienced a 60% decline in sales during the past two decades, any growth would be considered good news. Some analysts believe that the 18% increase is not enough.</p>
<p>"An 18 percent increase from this point will probably be a modest increase, For them to show any kind of momentum, they need to have a 25 percent-plus year," said Jesse Toprak, vice president of industry analysis at TrueCar.com.</p>
<p>Ford's executive vice president of global marketing, sales, service and Lincoln, Jim Farley has said Lincoln is not trying to be the volume leader in sales. Instead, Lincoln hopes to be the brand that introduces new and unique designs, color schemes and technologies.</p>
<p>The new Lincoln MKZ has just entered the market, and dealers are saying that preorders of the car are the highest they have seen since the Navigator in the late nineties.</p>

<p>"Lincoln is an important part of our plan, and introducing Lincoln in China marks the next step in our expansion in Asia and our commitment to serving customers in the luxury market," said Ford President and CEO Alan Mulally.</p>
<p>Lincoln says that by the end of this decade, luxury cars will account for 2.7 million sales. Lincoln also says that China will dwarf the U.S. in sales.</p>
<p>What is Lincoln's strategy to take a slice of China's market? "Lincoln will deliver an exceptional and personalized brand experience for Chinese customers seeking luxury tailored to their own needs." Lincoln isn't saying what that will mean for their vehicle lineup in China, most likely long-wheelbase models are on the table.</p>

<p></p>
<p><strong>BEIJING, 28 August, 2012 –</strong> Lincoln is coming to China, bringing its rich heritage and a unique alternative to the evolving luxury car customers in one of the world’s most important auto markets.</p>
<p>With a nearly 100-year history, Lincoln will deliver an exceptional and personalized brand experience for Chinese customers seeking luxury tailored to their own needs. New Lincoln products will begin to be sold in China in the second half of 2014 through an independent dealer network. The company begins meeting with dealers interested in being part of Lincoln’s growth in China in the fourth quarter of this year.</p>
<p>“Lincoln is an important part of our plan, and introducing Lincoln in China marks the next step in our expansion in Asia and our commitment to serving customers in the luxury market,” said Ford Motor Company President and CEO Alan Mulally. “We recognize the growth potential for Lincoln in China, building on the growing appeal of our new Lincoln products and unique, personalized customer experience in North America.”</p>
<p><strong>Luxury for an Evolving Market</strong></p>
<p>The luxury segment in China is forecast to surpass the luxury segment in the United States by 2020. In China, luxury vehicle sales are expected to more than double – from 6 percent of the market today to nearly 9 percent by the end of the decade, according to IHS. Annual sales of luxury cars are forecast to be approximately 2.7 million units by then.</p>
<p>In China, consumers now see luxury as more than a product, according to an intensive observation study of luxury car buyers conducted by TNS China, “<em>Targeting luxury car drivers in China”.</em></p>
<p>The study also shows that while many affluent consumers in China are still motivated by a primary desire to display their wealth noticeably, data gathered over the last 2 years reveals that a select group of consumers are evolving towards purchasing luxury for the personal experience rather than as an outward signal to others. Their motivation to purchase is also led by self-discovery of products and services that meet their own unique demands, providing a high degree of self-reward in making the right choice.</p>
<p>Lincoln’s combination of outstanding products and a personalized luxury buying and ownership experience is expected to be particularly appealing to this evolving group of Chinese luxury consumers. </p>
<p>“Globally, we’re seeing a new generation of luxury clients who value more individualistic and tailored options,” said Jim Farley, Group Vice President, Global Marketing Sales and Service, Ford Motor Company. “In China, the emerging luxury buyers are younger and fast-changing, and they have a strong desire to understand and appreciate the heritage of a brand- the origins of its real values such as timeless elegance, sophistication and craftsmanship in Lincoln.”</p>
<p><strong>A Luxury Brand Heritage, Unique Vision for the Future</strong></p>
<p>Lincoln, named after U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, was founded by Henry Leland. Lincoln was acquired by Ford Motor Company in 1922 when it saw the potential in the brand and identified with its purpose to serve luxury customers uniquely.</p>
<p>“Lincoln will distinguish itself by providing more individual and personalized motor cars, and a more personal and crafted experience to match,” said Farley. “The Lincoln experience promises to deliver elegant simplicity, something warmer and more personally engaging.”</p>
<p>“Research shows that for luxury consumers in China, international credentials are not enough; heritage and excellence are also expected of a luxury car.”</p>
<p>From the brand’s start, Lincolns were known for challenging convention and driving innovation in design and craftsmanship. This includes the ground-breaking design of the Lincoln Zephyr and original Lincoln Continental. </p>
<p>Today, Lincoln is combining outstanding vehicles with personal and innovative customer service at every step.</p>
<p><strong>Ford Motor Company Expanding Aggressively in China</strong></p>
<p>“Lincoln’s introduction to China represents a significant step forward in Ford’s aggressive growth strategy for the country”, said Dave Schoch, Chairman and CEO, Ford Motor China. “We are on track to deliver 15 new Ford-branded vehicles and 20 powertrains by 2015 to Chinese customers. With Lincoln, we will be expanding our product offering to cover China’s fast-growing luxury car segment.”</p>
<p>Ford Motor Company is building five new plants in China, including in Chongqing, which is home to the largest manufacturing location for Ford outside southeast Michigan. Once completed, the plants will double the company’s capacity in China to 1.2 million passenger vehicles a year.</p>
<p>The expansion, the largest by Ford in 50 years, will help the automaker realize an increase in global sales by around 50 percent from 2010 to about 8 million vehicles annually by mid-decade.</p>

<p>Lincoln will not be following in the footsteps of Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, or Cadillac with low-volume niche markets. Instead, Lincoln will be focusing on the volume segments in the luxury segment.</p>
<p>It's easy to see why Lincoln is going down this path. Sales so far this year are down 11%. So that means we will not see a flagship Lincoln sedan for the time being.</p>
<p>Lincoln is betting on products like the new MKZ to help pull them out of this slump. Lincoln is also readying a new crossover based on the Ford Escape, possibly wearing the MKC nameplate.</p>

<p>• No price premium for new MKZ Hybrid</p>
<p>DEARBORN, Mich., July 24, 2012 – The all-new Lincoln MKZ premium midsize sedan comes standard with more content and a lower starting price than the new Lexus ES 350.</p>
<p>“The new MKZ and MKZ Hybrid are proof of our commitment to reinvent the Lincoln brand for a new generation of Lincoln customers,” said Jim Farley, group vice president, Global Marketing, Sales and Service. “There’s a large group of thoughtful individuals who take great pride in planning and following their own unique paths, and the MKZ is the first of a number of all-new vehicles designed with this same attitude to be a compelling choice for these independent-minded consumers.”</p>
<p>The 2013 Lincoln MKZ includes several segment-firsts, plus features such as all-wheel drive that buyers cannot have on a new Lexus ES 350, whose starting price is $175 more than the new Lincoln MKZ’s.</p>
<p>MKZ’s key standard features include:</p>
<p>• Lincoln Drive Control, which orchestrates the performance of the Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD) adjustable suspension, electric power-assisted steering (EPAS), engine, transmission, Active Noise Control, traction control and stability control systems</p>
<p>• 2.0-liter EcoBoost® engine, projected to produce 240 horsepower and fuel economy of 22 mpg city, 33 mpg highway (front-wheel drive)</p>
<p>• Push-button shift, a unique execution that replaces the traditional mechanical transmission shift lever with a contemporary five-button interface and dramatically opens up the center console of the car</p>
<p>• SYNC® with MyLincoln Touch™ driver connect technology</p>
<p>• LED headlamps (segment-first) and taillamps</p>
<p>• Intelligent Access with push-button start</p>
<p>The 2013 Lincoln MKZ boasts 10 class-exclusive features, seven of which are standard: push-button shift, LED headlamps, 10.1-inch LCD instrument cluster, Active Noise Control, 8-inch touch screen, remote start and Easy Fuel® capless fuel filler. Available features are the retractable panoramic roof, inflatable rear seat belts and multicontour front seats with Active Motion®.</p>
<p>Base price for all of this is $35,925, excluding $875 delivery and destination charge.</p>
<p>Plus, customers still can choose the MKZ Hybrid – projected to remain America’s most fuel-efficient premium midsize sedan – for the same price, unlike other luxury competitors.</p>
<p>Dealer order banks are now open, and customers can configure their own virtual MKZ at <a href="http://www.lincoln.com/cars/mkz/2013." rel="external nofollow">http://www.lincoln.com/cars/mkz/2013.</a></p>
<p>2013 MKZ Hybrid best price in class and improved performance</p>
<p>Lincoln became the first automaker to offer luxury customers a premium hybrid vehicle with a suggested retail price matching its conventional gas sibling, starting with the MKZ Hybrid in 2010.</p>
<p>This model has been a key component to bringing new customers into Lincoln showrooms, with 72 percent of hybrid buyers being new to the brand last year alone.</p>
<p>Lincoln MKZ Hybrid customers receive the same key feature as Lincoln MKZ gas customers in their respective equipment groups. That means, for example, customers opting for the Hybrid Premiere Package receive SYNC with MyLincoln Touch with 8-inch touch screen, leather-trimmed heated front seats, class-exclusive LED headlamps and Lincoln Drive Control.</p>
<p>Other competitors charge a premium for their hybrid models. The 2013 Lexus ES 300h, for example, is priced at $38,850, representing a $2,750 premium over the 2013 Lexus ES 350 and nearly $3,000 ($2,925) more than the 2013 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid.</p>
<p>Exclusive to the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid is SmartGauge® with EcoGuide. This instrument cluster coaches drivers to become more fuel efficient, creating visual rewards in the form of the growth of virtual flowers on the system’s right-most screen for the driver’s efforts to operate the car in a fuel-efficient manner on a long-term, day-to-day basis.</p>
<p>Lincoln’s white flowers, inspired by apple blossoms, remain permanently unless lifetime fuel economy is reset.</p>
<p>On the all-new Lincoln MKZ Hybrid, new lithium-ion batteries save weight and generate more power than the previous nickel-metal-hydride batteries. An all-new 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder gas engine retains performance with more efficiency than the previous 2.5-liter unit, and the 70-kilowatt electric traction motor alone can power the car up to 62 mph.</p>
<p>The electric traction motor during launch allows for a smaller gasoline engine and significantly reduces fuel consumption. In addition, when it is used as a generator, it helps recover the vehicle energy during deceleration or braking to recharge the battery pack. Projected total system power is 188 horsepower.</p>
<p>Four levels of choice available</p>
<p>The 2013 Lincoln MKZ will be available in four executions: Premiere, Select, Reserve and Preferred.</p>
<p>The Select package includes the Premiere package plus:</p>
<p>• Rear view camera</p>
<p>• Wood steering wheel</p>
<p>• Ambient lighting</p>
<p>• Rear park sensors</p>
<p>• HD Radio™ technology, which provides better audio quality, improved reception performance and more choices</p>
<p>• Accent lighting in headlamps</p>
<p>• Auto-dimming driver’s side mirror</p>
<p>The Reserve package includes the Select package plus:</p>
<p>• Navigation System with voice recognition</p>
<p>• Blind Spot Information System (BLIS®) with cross-traffic alert. BLIS alerts when a vehicle enters a blind spot; cross-traffic alert warns of traffic approaching from the sides, such as leaving a parking space in reverse</p>
<p>• Power decklid</p>
<p>• Cooled seats</p>
<p>• Power tilt and telescoping steering wheel</p>
<p>The Preferred package includes the Reserve package plus:</p>
<p>• 19-inch polished wheels with painted pockets</p>
<p>• Premium floor mats</p>
<p>• Heated steering wheel</p>
<p>• Heated rear seats</p>
<p>• 110-volt powerpoint (standard on MKZ Hybrid)</p>
<p>• THX® II Certified Audio System</p>
<p>Thoughtful and intuitive technology</p>
<p>Meaningful technology applied in an intuitive manner is a key component of this new Lincoln.</p>
<p>Consider, for instance, the MKZ’s retractable panoramic roof. This visually and technically stunning feature becomes a Lincoln signature, offering a 15.2-square-foot glass panel and one of the largest rooftop openings available on any modern sedan. Click here to learn more about this available roof, which is priced at $2,995.</p>
<p>For audio enthusiasts, MKZ offers the available Lincoln-exclusive THX II Certified Audio System. It features 700 watts, 14 channels and 14 speakers.</p>
<p>THX audio engineers spent more than 200 hours custom-tuning the THX-certified equipment to deliver home-theater surround sound, creating one of the industry’s most powerful audio systems.</p>
<p>To aid drivers, the new Lincoln MKZ offers a Lane Keeping System, a suite of advanced driving aids that helps drivers avoid drifting from their lane due to distraction or fatigue. Consisting of Lane Keeping Aid, Lane Keeping Alert and Driver Assist, the Lane Keeping System utilizes a mono-vision camera integrated into the rearview mirror to read the lane markers ahead.</p>
<p>The Lane Keeping System is available as part of the Technology Package, which also includes adaptive cruise control, active park assist, auto high beams and rain-sensing wipers. For a more complete description of the Lane Keeping System, click here.</p>
<p>The new MKZ is the only sedan in its class to offer inflatable outboard rear seat belts. Rear-seat passengers – often children or mature passengers – can be more vulnerable to head, chest and neck injuries.</p>
<p>These inflatable second-row, outboard seat belts spread impact forces across more than five times the area of conventional belts, reducing pressure on the chest while helping to control head and neck motion and helping reduce the risk of injuries.</p>
<p>Emphasizing performance and efficiency, the optional 3.7-liter V6 engine produces a projected 300 horsepower, an increase of 37 horsepower over the previous MKZ V6, while improving fuel economy approximately 5 percent to an estimated 18 mpg city, 26 mpg highway (all-wheel drive).</p>
<p>“The all-new Lincoln MKZ represents a new day for Lincoln and we consider it a worthy new calling card for a reinvented brand,” said Farley. ”Along with a reinvented customer experience of delightful personal service, we are confident Lincoln will be on the leading edge of attracting a new class of premium buyers who delight in discovering new and better ways of rewarding and distinguishing themselves from the norm.”</p>
<p>The 2013 Lincoln MKZ will be in dealerships in late fall.</p>
<p>For a full press kit on the 2013 Lincoln MKZ, click here. Information on the all-new MKZ also can be found by downloading the Experience Lincoln app available now for free in the App Store and Google Play.</p>

<p>During the mid to late nineties, if you wanted a RWD american luxury sedan, you went to the Lincoln dealership; Mark VIII, Town Car, and the LS. However, the 2000's brought a sea change to Lincoln. The RWD philosophy was pushed away, going towards a FWD/AWD ideology, which has brought mixed results.</p>
<p>Car &amp; Driver is reporting that Lincoln could be be heading back to the RWD camp. According to the report, Lincoln wants access to the 2015 Ford Mustang, which is reportedly using a MacPherson front and new independent rear suspension.</p>
<p>If this was to happen, Lincoln would be able to better compete with brands like Cadillac and Lexus. For an example, a RWD platform could give Lincoln a true competitor to the BMW 3-Series, Cadillac ATS, and Lexus IS to name a few. Even though Lincoln officials will still insist that the MKZ is their competitor to those vehicles, the MKS is better suited to the Lexus ES.</p>
<p>Car &amp; Driver says the RWD architecture could also be used to better place the MKS. Instead of being an awkward Ford Taurus in Lincoln garb, a RWD MKS could give Lincoln a fighting chance in the mid-size luxury sedan class. Furthermore, a true RWD flagship could be in the wings, but that might not happen due to the Mustang's platform would need to be overhauled and stretched to handle it.</p>
<p>However, there are a couple complications to the RWD Lincoln. For one, the RWD sedan would need an AWD option to succeed in the snow belt. Modifying the Mustang's platform to have an AWD system could be difficult.</p>
<p>The other complication is Ford. Ford's current track record with doing a new RWD platform for new sedans has been nil. Even if the Mustang platform for Lincoln was approved, Ford executives would want a version, pointing to a quick payoff and volume.</p>
<p>Also, the low sales and relatively high costs for the first generation could cause Ford to have second thoughts. But if Ford wants to have Lincoln survive, many would agree to go for it.</p>

<p>Here at Cheers &amp; Gears, we been bemoaning Lincoln's decision to stick with MK-insert letter here naming system. But, the three letter naming system seems to gaining some traction.</p>
<p>Ford marketing manager Kate Pearce told the Detroit Free Press that the MKZ is now the third-most recognized nameplate in Lincoln’s lineup, behind the recently departed Town Car and Navigator.</p>
<p>"We're starting to see more recognition of the nomenclature. It will take time but we're seeing the gap of recognition close between old names like Continental and Town Car and the new names."</p>

<p>If you’re one of those people who doesn’t understands Lincoln's alphabet soup naming and just wished the brand would return to using actual names, you’re not going to be happy with this news.</p>
<p>Last year, Ford CEO Alan Mulally hinted that Lincoln would drop the MK-alphabet soup and go back to using actual names.</p>
<p>But it looks like that idea has gone into the trash. At the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, Lincoln showed off the MKZ Concept, indicating the Zephyr name probably wouldn't be revived.</p>
<p>"What I've learned in my career is it's product that matters, not the name," said Jim Farley, Ford's marketing chief to reporters.</p>
<p>In a separate interview, Mulally said he had come to terms with the current naming structure at Lincoln.</p>
