    Volvo Determined To Go Upmarket

    Volvo Cars' CEO says that the next-generation of vehicles will be much higher than the models currently sitting in showrooms today.

    "The new vehicles will be more expensive," said Volvo Cars CEO Hakan Samuelsson to Automotive News.

    Samuelsson says that he is not happy with Volvo's current position in the U.S. and thinks its time for a change in their strategy.

    "I think the company has no future if we are targeting mass market products. The new vehicles will be more expensive, but only if they deliver something the customer finds attractive," said Samuelsson.

    "Nothing will be excluded. It is fair to say I am not very satisfied. We have to come back in the U.S. market."

    The first vehicle that will see a price hike is the upcoming XC90, due sometime next year.

    This will be interesting to watch as they need to keep current prices to keep what customers they do have but also grow other market niches and that could be by going downstream and upstream. Not sure if upstream is really the best place for them so if the XC90 is to be a new more expensive luxury product. Be interesting to see how they achieve it and what the marketing message ends up being.

    Either a savior move for them or self destruction. So this is an interesting soap opera to watch! :deathwatch:

    The problem is that they muddled their name lineup. The S60 came down market and down in size into S40 territory and they canceled the S40. The S80 did the same thing.

    They need a new S40 that can run with the A4 and C-Class and the S60 needs to go back up to CTS/A6/E-Class size.

    Starting with the XC90 is the wrong move for this strategy. Do what Cadillac is doing, make the entry car so good that even the Audi/BMW humpers will have to grit their teeth and admit it is a real challenger, then move up the rest of the line.

    Great point Drew, they should start at the bottom and build up rather than from the top down. But then China thinks it can build everything from the top down.

    My gut has me thinking Volvo will be the next car company to go into the history books as the market indicators are all showing we are looking at a China collapse in the next year or two. Goldman and B of A just dumped all their holdings in China Banks, interbank rates are sky high and last quarter was just a rumble of the billions to be written down or off and I suspect at the end of September the rumbles will become even bigger. Insurance has jumped big time and rates are upside down.

    My gut tells me Chine will implode and follow our own 4 year depression and companies that are bank rolled by air money will go away.

    Honestly I can see the world with no Volvo in it.

    I really hope Volvo is not getting into more than they can bargain for. I mean I understand they want to build their car brand, but if they're going to raise the price for their cars that people have not been buying often enough, isn't that digging themselves a grave?

      Back in the late-nineties, Volvo took a page out of Subaru's playbook by taking one their wagons and making a bit of more capable off-road. The end result was the V70 Cross Country and would become one Volvo's iconic models the next two decades. Now the successor the V70 has gotten its own Cross Country variant.
      Today, Volvo revealed the 2017 V90 Cross Country. Starting with the basic V90, Volvo lifted it 2.36 inches to give it an overall ground clearance of 8.2 inches. New bumpers, wheels, and underbody protection finish the transformation. Volvo also made adjustments to the electronic chassis system, stability control, and power steering to make the V90 Cross Country handle tough conditions.
      Volvo doesn't mention what engines that V90 Cross Country will come with. We assume that it will mirror the other 90 series models - T5, T6, and T8 plug-in hybrid. No matter the engine, it will be paired with all-wheel drive.
      Volvo is planning to start production of the V90 Cross Country this fall. No word on when it will arrive in the U.S.

      Volvo Cars, the premium car maker, has unveiled the eagerly awaited V90 Cross Country, completing its 90 Series line-up.
       
      Since the introduction of the first Cross Country almost 20 years ago, Volvo Cars has become synonymous with the rugged all-road, all-weather product category, with a growing stable of Cross Country models.

      Volvo Posts Fourteen Months of Consecutive Double Digit Sales Growth
      ROCKLEIGH, N.J. (Sept. 1, 2016) - Volvo Car USA, LLC, (VCUSA) reported U.S. sales of 7,682 vehicles, a 30.9 percent increase versus August 2015 and marking the fourteenth consecutive month the company posted double digit sales growth. Year-to-date sales are up 29.5 percent year-over-year.
       
      Sales for the month of August were led by the award-winning XC90 luxury SUV with 2,859 vehicles sold. The XC60 followed in the second spot with 1,847 vehicles sold.
       
      “In addition to strong XC90 sales, we are now seeing the first S90 sedans starting to arrive to our dealerships,” said Lex Kerssemakers, President and CEO, Volvo Car USA. “Today also marks the start of our national advertising campaign for S90, ‘Song of the Open Road’ which will continue the momentum on our transformation journey.”

      Volvo Posts Thirteen Months of Consecutive Double Digit Sales Growth
        ROCKLEIGH, N.J. (Aug. 2, 2016) - Volvo Car USA, LLC, (VCUSA) reported U.S. sales of 8,584 vehicles, a 52.8 percent increase versus July 2015 and marking the thirteenth consecutive month the company posted double digit sales growth. Year-to-date sales are up 29.3 percent year-over-year.   Sales for the month of July were led by the award-winning XC90 luxury SUV with 2,888 vehicles sold.       It came as a shock to many when Volkswagen admitted that it used illegal software to cheat emission tests with their diesel. But there was one group that wasn't surprised, automakers.
       
      Kent Falck, a future product specialist at Volvo said a recent event that many automakers were very suspicious of Volkswagen's emission results with their TDI engines. Falck explained that many were puzzled as to how Volkswagen was able to achieve lower emissions despite using the same suppliers as other automakers.
       
      “We have the same suppliers, we have Bosch, we have Denso, we are working with the same partners, so we know this technology doesn’t exist,” said Falck. “I have known that for seven years.”
       
      “We sat in a room and reviewed all the facts, figures, whatever we have, with the specialists. (But) we can’t manage it, how are the others doing it? We don’t know.”
       
      At first, Falck thought Volkswagen had some sort of proprietary technology to pull this off without resorting to such technologies such urea injection.
       
      “There is always intellectual properties in the world ... there might be something out there in the technology ... that we are not allowed to buy because it’s owned by a supplier. We were wondering how (VW met strict US emissions targets) that’s for sure.”
       
      But soon enough, Falck and other people at various automakers realized Volkswagen was going at it an illegal way.
