Camaro's Brake Caliper Placement

I just noticed something weird about the Camaro. Most cars, and even the concept, have their calipers behind the front rotor and ahead of the rear rotor. The production car looks to have its calipers behind both rotors. Here are some pics to compare:

Is it weird that it's setup like that? The G8's is the same way, but the CTS's and Corvette's are setup like the Camaro concept.

There is no real reason for placement of the calipers. 9 o'clock or 3 o'clock is the norm because they are easy to package. Usually the car manufacturers optimize the placement for better space. You know how crowded it is getting there considering 4-6 pistons, adding cooling devices, etc.
