Hydrogen cars? Autonomy?

Featured Replies

Does anybody think that GM will try and push these cars out for production sooner than expected? Or have the oil companies bought them off to keep fuelies? In a recent MT or R&T mag there was a GM ad in there that made a notion about hydrogen vehicles then had a "Shell" logo on the bottom of the page also (basically showed GM and Shell as partnering up on the Hydro thing). I remember reading a Popular Mechanics back some years ago about the Autonomy and that GM had set down with Exxon originally about the hydrogen idea and going in on setting up hydrogen stations, Exxon basically said that they weren't interested and didn't think that there would ever be an interest in hydrogen and more or less just walked out of the meeting. Any news on any of this?
From what all the auto companies are saying, I believe that the first hydrogen vehicle for all consumers won't be available until after 2010 or 2015. Right now, the technology is just too expensive and until gasolene is priced at $20 a gallon, there's no real hurry to put this on the road.
