...going to finally get rid of all that cheap-ass rubber molding on the sides of their cars and switch to body-colored? Honestly, it makes the 9-7X more appealing because of its lack of rubber. Check out the pic on SAAB's main page - it looks sort of hot. Seriously, guys. Its not an '87 Ciera...
Supposedly the black rubber molding give them a more "Euro" look. At least that's what IGN thought when it came to the new Kia Rio. Volvos have it too. I just think it looks cheap.
It really depends on the quality of rubber and where it's used. Personally, I prefer rock-solid rubber molding over flexible, molded, painted plastic stuff, because it seems more, well, substantial. It's hard to explain...

Volvo lost those black mouldings recently. My dad's 2000 had them, but the recent models have body coloured ones.
