SAIC about to screw over GM?

Featured Replies

Been a long time since I poked around here... In any case, I came across this video and was curious what others think about it.

Personally, I'm not surprised... I long have felt the forced SAIC-GM partnership was lopsided and would burn GM... this video shows things are much more dire.

I can't watch the video yet, but I think getting all the knowledge and know-how out of the legacy automakers and then casting them aside was the long-game for the Chinese the whole time. Doesn't matter if it is Benz or GM or Ford or Stellantis.

Apple has put themselves into the same position.

Oh, BTW, I don't know if I agree with the clickbait-y title screen of the video.

My thinking is that even if the SAIC thing completely blows up, GM could still fall back on their trucks and US-designed SUVs.

"New" GM does not get my blood pumping like "old" GM did... and I no longer pay nearly as close attention to GM's activities, as few of their offerings interest me... so I don't know what other obligations GM has that will hit the bottom line.  I worse case scenario, IMHO, is that "new" GM goes BK and "new new" GM is formed with just their North America based offerings.

@SAmadei Very interesting video.

I do not agree with all the points made, but they did make some very valid points that I have always felt about the forced partnership that Everyone other than Tesla has had to do.

As @Drew Dowdell points out, the Chinese long game was about stealing as much info, knowledge and property rights from America before casting them aside. I do not see GM going Bankrupt again. I do see especially with the poor leadership in the U.S. and the idiot tariff approach that U.S. based Companies are going to have a much harder time selling globally.
