The second-generation 2016 Chevrolet Volt Premier represents a thorough ground-up redesign of GM's plug-in hybrid hatchback, trading the polarizing styling of the original for a cleaner, more conventional look that doesn't sacrifice the Volt's practical advantages. Under the hood, the upgraded Voltec powertrain pairs a 1.5-liter range-extender engine with an improved electric drive unit, delivering a real-world EV range of around 50 miles before the gasoline generator kicks in.
