Have to say that I agree with this story about how Chevrolet has beaten Porsche.
10 Things That Make The Chevy Corvette E-Ray Better Than The Porsche 911 (topspeed.com)
#10 - Corvette is more powerful, 495 base horsepower compared to 911 GTS 473 horsepower.
#9 - Corvette E-Ray is faster than the Porsche, Corvette is 2.5 seconds 0-60 where Porsche is 2.8 seconds 0-60 automatic, 3.2 seconds if manual.
#8 - Utility and space management, Corvette is better than Porsche for interior room and cargo space.
#7 - Affordability, Corvette E-Ray starts at $102,900 compard to Porsche 911 starts at $107,000 and if you go 911 Carrera S that is more equal to the E-Ray, starting price is $124,000 making the Corvette E-Ray the best value for performance cars.
#6 - Fuel-efficient - E-Ray is more fuel efficient than the Porsche.
#5 - Hybrid, Corvette Hybrid is here today, Porsche says they will have a Hybrid in the future.
#4 - Stealth Mode - Corvette has this that allows you to drive away in pure electric mode staying very quiet where Porsche does not have this so the loud exhaust will be there to wake everyone up.
#3 - Magnetic Ride Control 4.0, faster auto adjusting suspension than the Porsche PASM auto adjusting suspension.
#2 - Fuel tank size, Corvette E-Ray has a 18.5 gallon gas tank compared to Porsche 16.9 gallon gas tank.
#1 - PowerTrain Warranty - Corvette E-Ray has a 5 year / 60,000 mile warranty, Porsche gives you a 4 year / 50,000 mile warranty.
It dawned on me that the Stealth Mode can help the single guys or gals sneak away from a 1 night stand if they so choose. ?
Saw this write up on the SVB bank failure and have to say it is very illuminating.
Silicon Valley Bank
It’s hard to miss the news this week that sparked major disruptions in the banking industry. A sequence of events rapidly unfolded, resulting in the second largest bank failure in US history last week. Subsequent reports from other banks experiencing problems followed. The trigger started with an increased volume of withdrawals from venture-backed start-ups. This segment has struggled to obtain incremental investments in this conservative fiscal environment, so drawing more funds without incremental investments caused a strain on the banking reserves. Bad decisions on long-dated bond investments by Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) that resulted in a $1.8 billion loss inflated the problem. Management of SVB failed to hold enough liquidity to meet the increasing demands. SVC’s announcement that they were looking to raise more capital via additional share sales to cover their shortfall on March 8th was quickly amplified on social media and caused a rapid bank run by customers.
The whole collapse took a mere 48 hours to unfold.
The SVB financial concentration on technology companies did not just affect small, early-stage start-ups. Some of the well-established technology companies affected included Roku, Etsy, and Cloudian. Here’s a more complete list that spans the US, Europe, and Asia. The impact felt by customers, employees, and other businesses serving the businesses affected by this collapse affects secondary and tertiary levels.
Unlike the 2008 financial collapse triggered by over-leveraged lending, this event was not due to the fundamental integrity of customers, but rather to the fact that management failed to satisfy its fiduciary responsibility to preserve liquidity. More fuel was added to the fire by increasing interest rates, decreased VC investments, and fewer acquisition exits – a combination predictable in this more conservative fiscal phase we’re now in.
In Europe, HSBC took over the U.K. division of SVB over the weekend. Accepting all of their assets and liabilities in exchange for £1, HSBC came to rescue of many customers and businesses worried about their livelihoods. 451 Research explains:
The deal will considerably boost HSBC's exposure to startups and high-growth companies — a segment of the market that risk-averse incumbent banks in the U.K. have typically shied away from. As of March 10, SVB (U.K.) had loans of £5.5 billion and deposits of in the region of £6.7 billion, and about 3,300 clients. SVB (U.K.) turned a pre-tax profit of £88 million in the 2022 financial year. Although SVB (U.K.) does not make its fintech client list public, previous press releases suggest that it has lent money to the likes of well-known payments and remittance company Wise PLC (formerly TransferWise) and Liberis, a U.K.-based embedded finance specialist.
Although HSBC's appearance as a white knight came as a surprise to many, the multinational bank has been bolstering its U.K. small and medium-sized business lending proposition in recent years, which suggests that the deal is strategic as well as opportunistic. HSBC launched its digital small-business banking product, Kinetic, in 2021, and its customer base stood at 53,000 as of year-end 2022. It also launched a global SMB platform, Business Go, whose signups totaled 95,000 at the end of 2022.
There’s still a lot more to come as the situation continues to unfold. 451 Research reminded its readers this week that it will take years for technology deal making and trust to recover. As other banking institutions come into the mix, the challenges will extend well beyond the technology industry. Here’s a write up from Fidelity if you have interest in their point of view.

As I posted in the random thread, Cadillac accidentally leaked before correcting the website that a V edition of the LYRIQ is coming this year.

This is all ASSUMPTION, there is no facts here, Your making assumptions based on past autos and NO just cause they are on the same platform does not mean they will have the same power. Cars are not SUVc just as SUVs are not cars. They are two very different dynamic bodies and handling traits.

Because they already announced the C43 and C63 power numbers and the GLC is a mechanical twin. C43 is already at dealers. The rumor mill is the E63 will go to a 700 hp inline six with over 800 lb-ft, which makes sense if a C63 is 671 hp, and the S63 is V8 with 800 hp, 1000+ lb-ft or whatever the number is. And I imagine that the swan song for AMG gasoline powered cars and none of this stuff will be around in 2030.
Prove this as there is NOTHING on the Global or USA media sites about this and the selling sites only cover 2022 both regular GLC and AMG.
The Mid-Size AMG GLC SUV | Mercedes-Benz USA (mbusa.com)
- 2022 GLC 300 & 300 4MATIC 255 hp / 273 lb-ft of torque
- 2022 AMG GLC 43 is 385 hp / 384 lb-ft of torque
- No 2022 AMG GLC 63 model
The 2023 GLC for either model is 255hp or 278 in boosted mode with 295 lb-ft of torque or 418 lb-ft of torque in boosted mode. Sadly this will rarely ever happen as the details in the press release say in specific use cases will the hybrid 23 hp / 123 lb-ft of torque be added to the ICE system, such as aggressive take offs from a dead start, high speed passing, etc. So while this new powertrain is a little bit better than the old model, not much better and based on the engineering info they have released, there is no way this Hybrid system in the GLC will deliver 700 hp with over 800 lb-ft of torque let alone 800 hp with over 1000 lb-ft of torque.
Please provide actual web links to back up this claim.
Here is their Future 2023 GLC webpage: 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV | Future Vehicles | Mercedes-Benz USA (mbusa.com)
No mention of AMG versions yet.
This is the only actual webpage working that talks about a 43 and 64 AMG GLC version with hypothetical numbers being more aggressive than the existing auto and a possible upgrade in electric motor.
They also clearly state also that the new 2023 GLC will only under very high-load situations use the mild hybrid HP/Torque. So not much of a hybrid at all.

2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Is No Mere Carbon-Copy Kia (caranddriver.com)
Seems while they are not ready to give any firm statistics, the N Performance Edition will be north of 600 HP and they are definitly not just coping the Kia EV6 GT which is only 576 HP.

OUCH and the Ford recalls keep coming. This time, a retainer bolt on the inside of the steering box fails and causes the steering box to lock up. All 2023 Broncos are on a do not deliver, do not drive list awaiting replacement parts.

Seems Bollinger Motors has stopped trying to build SUV/Truck for personal use and is focused on the commercial market as they have moved forward with producting mid-size commercial EVs.
The B4 at Work Truck Week 2023 (mailchi.mp)
They still talk about the SUV and Truck that led them to their B5 commercial trucks they are building now. So I guess everyone that put down reservations on the Bollinger SUV/Truck lost out.

The GLC300 is 0-60 in 6.2 seconds per Mercedes estimate, which is usually a bit conservative. That's fine for this segment, the Acura RDX A-spec is 6.2 seconds 0-60, the XT5 is 8.0 seconds, the BMW X3 is 6.0. And the mild hybrid will help with start stop refinement and probably they pick up 1-2 mpg vs the old car.
GLC43 is going to be 402 hp turbo 4
GLC63 is going to be 671 hp turbo 4 plug in hybrid
Same as the C-class.
Where are you getting the AMG numbers? Both the USA and Global Media website has nothing on the all-new AMG versions yet. These appear to be the old model numbers.

Seems someone slipped as it no longer shows on the Cadillac Accessory website, but good chance we will see a V edition of the LYRIQ.

I mean, only if you exclude the Corsair and NX. I'm not sure why you'd exclude those as luxury vehicles though.
Not sure what you are meaning, I did not exclude any of the vehicles. Cadillac is not the lead auto here but is in the leading group. Guess my wording was confusing.

It's nice and all that they're racing but that's a pretty low series. It'll be more exciting when they have their hands in series like F1, NASCAR, or one of the GTD or prototype classes in IMSA.
At least they are racing cars they make.
Not auto related, but I was cracking up laughing at the lack of being able to explain what Woke is in this interview by one that attacks woke people.

Ugly with a capital U-G-L-Y (in "coupe" form).
End of discussion.
Agree that the outside style leaves much to be desired but as myself and others here have stated, the warm two-tone interior is nice. I have mixed feelings about the dash and their HUD.
The exterior style reminds me that they ripped off BMW coupe SUV design and then watered down to fit their jellybean style of the EVs.

@oldshurst442 @Robert Hall I get both of your points your making, I think for some auto companies or at least certain brands, we will still see cars, just in limited numbers. At least we have Hyundai/Kia doing EV cars as well as Cadillac from what they have stated is coming and of course VW. So I think for those that want a car, there will be options, probably AWD car options.

It seems Ontario is on a roll lately as the Province also bagged Volkwagen's first North American battery factory.
Great news for Canada and especially Ontario. Im a little saddened for Quebec and the news about VW's choice for Ontario rather than Quebec...but Quebec's backwards politicians sometimes focus on antiquated issues and scare the population that the French language is in danger and therefore introduce stupid laws to 'protect' the French language and also continue to ever so whisper about separation from Canada into the equation and thus scare away big global endeavors away from the Province.
Canada’s effort to position itself as a major player in electric-vehicle manufacturing, and to prove that it can compete with massive new U.S. subsidies for automakers, has received a major boost from Volkswagen Group.
The German auto giant on Monday announced that it has chosen St. Thomas, Ont., as the site for its first battery factory outside Europe, after considering locations in both Canada and the United States.
Details of the planned investment, including the dollar amount and production capacity, were not provided and are expected in the coming weeks. But federal Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne pointed to Volkswagen’s description of the facility as a “gigafactory” – a term that is meant to indicate massive scale – to describe it as “probably the largest single investment in the auto sector in Canada’s history.”
We are a multi-cultural world and if the idiot politicians cannot get over the move by society to various languages or the business standard of using English, they will hurt and fall behind society losing out and humans will move leaving them behind for forward growth elsewhere. Morons in my book.

LOL, this was too funny to read.
Leaking fuel in the engine bay created fire, safety valves shut off to protect the driver, but still not worth the risk and especially when you consider the following as to why Hydrogen will never replace Gas or EVs.
80lbs of Gas needs 410 lbs of Hydrogen on top of the complexity of the Hydrogen auto. EVs just make more simple sense.

@oldshurst442 Seems Magna is expanding in your neck of the woods. Six site that will expand and create over 1,000 more jobs.
Details of the new and expanding facilities include:
- Brampton: A new 490,000 square-foot leased facility to manufacture battery enclosures for electric vehicles. Operations to begin in Q2 2023, roughly 560 new jobs are expected at full production.
- Guelph: Magna is adding e-coat, molding and welding capacity to its exteriors plant to support new electric vehicle production. The expansion will total 120,000 square-feet, and production is planned to begin in Q2 2023. Approximately 175 new jobs are expected.
- Belleville: Magna’s lighting plant is adding to its capabilities for printed circuit board assemblies and will start operations in Q4 2023. Up to 100 new jobs are expected.
- Newmarket: Magna’s mechatronics facility which produces vehicle access systems including side door latches, electronic control units, and power systems – is growing its business and expects approximately 75 new jobs.
- Windsor: Magna’s mechatronics plant adds new business for powered aluminum tonneau covers. The facility has recently started those operations and is planning to add roughly 110 new jobs.
- Penetanguishene: Magna’s mechatronics facility is growing its tailgate hinges production and more than 15 new jobs are planned.
Magna's SmartAccess Power Door System Hits the Market in Style
Seems the Ferrari Purosangue will be the launch vehicle for these new SmartAccess doors.
The system will launch with several other Asian and North American automakers in 2023. SmartAccess™ can also offer a host of additional consumer-related features including:
- Ability to customize the door feel to specific consumer desires,
- Gesture control allowing the wave of a hand to open or close the side door,
- Non-contact obstacle detection where the side doors can sense a post or adjacent vehicle and stop the door in a controlled manner, and
- Keypad for seamless keyless entry.

I think the coupe looks better than the regular version, but at the same time I think the crossover coupe idea is kind of dumb and overdone at this point.
Good vehicle, nothing surprising since the C-class is basically identical inside and in powertrain and chassis. This with 670 hp will be pretty nuts against a field of dopey front drive crossovers.
Standard MB external and engine, while I like the two-tone interior, I am unimpressed with the launching powertrain. Will be interesting to see what they do with it from the AMG standpoint. The current Hybrid does not lend itself to much improvement, so thinking this is all ICE which then takes away from being a hybrid.
Be interesting to see when they do the AMG versions.
