  1. i ran that number on an 07. 08's have a little less rebate. HHR's, Cobalts, Impalas, etc. should all be cheap buys right now.
  2. 1000 loyalty bonus in effect GM card topoff in effect auto show bonuses end of season discounts BUY BUY BUY i can buy a 1SV G6 for 11k right now. (15k after 2500 rebate) minus 1k loyalty - 3k GM card topoff. GO GM!
  3. did it ever occur to you that this version of astra is simply a dike plugger? it gives saturn a much better competitor, fast and on the cheap until the next global version comes out. saturn is giving up Ion volume to stake a place on the market for a little bit more upscale small car than what GM has previously offered. they had to do this on the cheap and quick to get something in the lineup to not have to sell the Ion anymore. They had fully planned to sell the Ion much longer but this was the best fix once they made the decision to tank it. and...civics only appeal to the under 30 / video game junkie / east LA / 'nobody told me the sport compact tuner craze was over' crowd. mazda 3 is nice yes, but not everyone likes mazdas, and they are not segment volume leaders. VW represents well in this segment too, don't forget them. Saturn doesn't need Astra to be a 'game changer', it just needs to upgrade its credibility over the Ion a bunch in this model to set the stage for the next version which will arrive maybe in two years. This was how the Japanese build cred in market segments over time. Besides that, Astra is stylish enough to make a market impact on style alone. As nice as Mazdas and VW's are (the civic is not in any way NICE), not everyone wants to drive one. There are enough people out there who do not simply read CR or a comparison test written by some lame ass journalist and conclude that every other that wasn't first or second is complete crap. at the auto show last year, the astra got all sorts of love. I think it will claim a nice spot in the market. And if it sells in expected volume at a profit, they will build MO for the next version when it comes out. Just like they are doing with the Aura / Insignia. What needs to happen is chevy needs to be good enough to steal sales from corolla and sell in big volumes so saturn can continue to sell in good, but not top segment volume. Saturn can exist as a good alternative, a good GM alternative, by selling 5-7 lines of cars in enough volume to make the brand unique and viable. And c'mon, in the end, the bigger issue is that the Astra lacks cupholders and usb ports and mp3 inputs. That is a bigger problem than anything right now.
  4. it always comes down to engineering. with larger displacement comes larger pistons and mass of moving components too. one of the reasons dohc as touted a long time ago was you could spin the sucker higher because the rotational mass was less. GM never demostrated that they could make a pushrod v6 have the more refined characteristics of the OHC counterparts. with v8's they have been able to participate better. but really regardless of drivetrain the real thing to focus on is whether GM continually updates its v8 offerings to be current in power, fuel economy, and NVH and packaging. Where GM has fallen off the wagon for most of its mainstream models is not focusing on continuous improvement. so if they keep the northstar and not develop a replacement, the question is will it get any attention?
  5. it's white so the best buy geek squad can slap their logo on the side and drive around in them
  6. were you using it as an adverb, verb, noun, adjective?
  7. not so easy to just make a cute little start up and start building something that only mega companies have been able to sustain. i find it hilarious and amusing.
  8. because the 09 corolla is light years ahead of this thing ?
  9. gotta admit, i do really like it. I just won't get inside it. nice and PURE in white.
  10. mpls auto show is in about 8 weeks i think. G8 better be there.
  11. Global warming = temp rise (TR) global dimming = temp drop (TD) TR - TD = x value of x 0 = I don't care what's next? global p1ssing?

  13. and the earth WAS flat at one time, too http://www.globalissues.org/EnvIssues/Glob...isglobaldimming something else for the elites to scare the crap out of you to add on to the global warming thing. note, cars are likely to blame for this also.
  14. i get by fine with two tatas at my disposal. i'll pocket the difference and spend it on alcohol to enhance the mood.
  15. same here. i really think, for the first time in a long time, that this is the type of car that is perfect for me, at least in terms of driving enjoyment.
  16. Saturn Astra XR 3 door, Edmunds full test (new) looks hot in black, by the way. ouch! another 50 hp and i might be interested.
  17. acura has no real history. no history in this country. no big racing history. no cultural significance. it has created nothing to the growth of our country or economy. the NSX was a great image car but they gave up on it and never renewed it. they lost model identity when they renamed cars like legend and vigor and integra into "TL" and "TSX" and "RSX". they lost a lot of faithful when they abandoned coupes. They blatantly rebadge euro accords into TL's and Civics into "EL's". But perhaps the biggest problem they have is that the faithful Honda bunch sticks with Honda because its frugal efficient soulless appliance character is so strong, that it counteracts the exact nature of luxury. When you get to the point where you can afford true luxury, all of a sudden consumer reports and gas mileage and perfect reliability is not the main reason why you pick a car. Emotion, soul, frivolity, excess....all things that go against the notion of a 'Honda' to the very core. Or worse yet, you scold yourself for wanting an RL, when you could get the exact same size car for 1/3 the price. And gosh, you don't NEED more than an Accord if you love hondas. honda is into efficient engineering. that is the opposite of EXCESS. well, hold on, we got "vtec" and "SHAWD". woo hoo. build a brand on that.
  18. carbiz can expand on this.....
  19. http://wardsauto.com/ar/acura_consumer_reports/ boo fricking hoo...... must explain the crappy sales!!!!!!!!! that and no v8! Go Hyundai!!!!!!!!!
  20. i totally love TATA's! seriously, the design is not bad, even if it looks like a Prius that went through the dryer. I imagine it would totally blow to have to drive one of these.
  21. yup. exactly. but no one mentions that. How many GM cars are fleeted? is always the thing that is brought up. Well, how many camlees are leased and returned? I have been indignant that with the huge cahmlee sales increases the past 3-4 years, all those leases will FLOOD the open market and BAM! there goes that wonderful resale. You CANNOT tell me that with hundreds of thousands of hahmrees hitting auctions that the value of them won't be that much different than sonatas.
  22. donate the prix. your tax writeoff will exceed 200 bucks, no? GM card is above and beyond your best deal with all other rebates etc. another reason to like GM. In 04, we bought our aztek. 26,500 was sticker. 18 grand was the price we got and then the 2 grand GM card brought it down to 16k, new. So its above and beyond your best deal.
  23. saab and saturn need to take GM card
  24. the design is pretty superb if you ask me
