Catching ad errors: '75 MC labeled as '76 MC
knightfan26917 replied to knightfan26917's topic in The Lounge
*nods* You are correct, ocnblu. And, actually, of the 2nd generation, the 1977 MC was the only one to have the emblem as a stand-up hood ornament. [believe I used that as one of the trivia questions in a previous MC trivia game ] *pauses to trot back to Camino's thread to check link you mention* Found it: http://www.showauto.com/viewfull.asp?ID=1858263 From that angle, I can't really tell what year it is. I'd need to see the rear end ... to see the taillights. Yes, no hood ornament is on that car, but the angle is such that you can't see the entire grill ... and I can't tell if an emblem is in the center of the grill or not. If not, then it is a '77 ... but, if the emblem is in the center of the grill, then it may be a '76 ... depending on the taillights. Course ... on the flipside ... it may be a '76 or a '77 MC ... with a front or rear end from the other year............... He he As for the one in the link I posted ... some are saying that it IS a '76 ... but, I'm not convinced. I kinda see what they mean about the taillights ... but that bumper "screams" '75 to me.... Maybe it is a '76 with a '75 bumper. After all ... it does appear to be a DRAWING rendition . Being the "Resident Young Stickler" that I am ... I find it fascinating when I spot ads for cars that advertise for one year of car, but show a completely different year of the same car. Case in point: 1976 Des Moines Register ad Check out this, that a friend on the El Camino list posted: http://www.myelcamino.net/1976.htm ...and scroll down a little bit to the "Clean Sweep" ad. You see that " '76 Monte Carlo " they have pictured there? Well, I don't think it is; sure looks like a '75. But ... you be the judge and compare.... '75 MC rear (scroll down to bottom): http://www.chevyasylum.com/mcspotter/1975f.html '76 MC rear (scroll down to bottom): http://www.chevyasylum.com/mcspotter/1976f.html The ad pic shows the MC rear bumper as angling inward (like the '75) instead of a "bulge" at the 2 ends (like the '76). Sadly, I've seen way too many of these "different year" pictures in ads. Makes you wonder........... Ahhh....well put. Hadn't really thought of it in quite those terms before, but absolutely true for me as well.... Or, simply: YOURSELF. Seriously ... during my last open heart surgery in 2003 I had a few different visitors. While I certainly appreciated the members of the FGMC that brought some model FGMCs for me ... I also appreciated the people who just CAME. It was very comforting to know that I mattered to them ... that, whether they really understood what I was experiencing or not, they were there to support me. HTH........ OK ... first of all ... I'm not talking "in general". I mean ... in terms of your FAVORITE vehicle ... be it, like me, the Monte Carlo ... or Buick Regal ... or Pontiac Grand Prix ... or Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme ... etc. I'm just curious ... with all of the different cars and trucks available to be enthusiastic about, what keeps you in the family? Is it the styling? Is it the reliability? Is it the looks from others admiring the car as you drive down the road? Is it a "family" thing? Is it fond memories? Or, is it something else entirely? For me ... it is a family thing, mostly ... literally and figuratively. My "love affair" began when my parents bought a brand spankin' new 1976 MC when I was about 3 years old. Just over 5 years later, they purchased a brand new 1981 MC ... and we had 2 at one time. That start turned into (more or less) my current family of MCs [i still have my parents' '81 MC] ... which I sometimes wonder why I keep 'em. Yeah, I've considered selling my MCs in the past ... but, rightly or wrongly, it always comes back to "I wouldn't be me" without them ... partly because most people know me through and/or associate me with MCs. I'm not sure that is completely fair, given how fiesty I am ... and how many other interests I have (heart issues, cellos, model trains/cars, radio shows/music, road trips, etc.). *shrugs* Be that as it may ... and despite having temptations to "jump ship" for other cars ... I remain a Monte Carlo enthusiast. Ssssooo...what about you? *nods* About the same for me.... And, Camino ... didn't really mean that BUSY meant BAD. Hmmm....sorry if it seemed that way. I wonder if we've all done this, at least to some extent. Someone we know, perhaps love and/or care very much about, or perhaps even just know through media outlets, dies ... and we say "He/she will be missed" and/or "We'll never forget him/her" ... because of how they treated and/or respected us ... and/or changed our life in some way/shape/fashion. But, life continues and, gradually, the feeling of loss lessens. Then, somewhere down the line, you find something or read or see or hear something that, instantaneously, reminds you of that person. For that matter, it doesn't even have to be a death. Maybe it's an old friend with whom we've lost touch ... or an event (sporting or otherwise) that captured our attention and was very important to us at the time.... In going through my old files, I found some old newspaper clippings ... some of sporting events (Cubs games, the Bulls' World Championships, The Bears' Super Bowl Shuffle lyrics) and others of people I've known (friends and family). One group of clippings, in particular, included columns of Gene Seymour, along with several articles about him and his death. Seymour was a longtime sports columnist for the newspapers of the then Copley News who took an interest in my writings during my college days. I never met him, but I spoke with him several times while I was employed by The CourierNews, a Copley newspaper. Finding the old articles and letters jarred me ... and it was weird how those days suddenly flashed in my memory as if they were just yesterday. Yet, at the same time, they felt like a lifetime ago.... This, along with some events of this past week, reminded me of how short and fragile life is ... and how much we sometimes miss because we are sssooo busy. Too many times we argue and bicker and fight ... and then only seem to realize the good in others once we can no longer share time with them ... or, for that matter, tell them how much they mean to us and/or how they've shaped our lives. *shrugs* Maybe it's just me ... but, it's frustrating that it feels impossible to tell EVERYONE in my life (parents, sister, bro-in-law, aunts/uncles/cousins, grandparents, friends, etc.) just how much they mean to me, etc. Yet ... at the same time, those that are close to me, I'm sure, already KNOW this ... despite arguments/fights/hurt feelings that happen in between the good times. At least ... I hope they do anyway.... It's ironic how the meanings and good feelings are sometimes hard to express, but the hurtful things are so freekin' easy to display.... So....am I the only one that feels this? Or, do you have people in your life that you've "forgotten" ... or that you know understand how you feel without telling them ... or that, perhaps, you wonder if they really do know? Just some food for thought.... Cort:33swm."Mr Monte Carlo.Mr Road Trip".pig valve.pacemaker PICS:lego.HO.model.MCinfo.RT.CHD = http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort "I never meant to leave you alone" ...
