  1. Isn't there another part to this equation?
  2. Happy Birthday guys! Enjoy it.
  3. http://ttora.com/forum/showthread.php?t=95993 Everything you wanted to know about this. I just read all 20 pages, it's bad... really.really, bad. One poster quotes a Toyota regional rep as saying they expect to buy back half of the production Tacomas over these years (800,000 units), at a cost of about 4 billion dollars. There is also talk that later model years may be affected with particular suspicion placed on the '01s. All I can say is DAMN! If you follow the link and don't want to read it all scan through for the pics, especially those at the end.
  4. Toyota should out themselves on this and call the news organizations. They need to get these trucks off of the road ASAP, before someone dies as a result of this. Judging by the pics I saw, a few hundred pounds in the bed should be enough to fold some of these trucks up like a piece of paper. I'd bet there are lawyers salivating at the prospect as we type.
  5. Did a little surfing and the problem seems to be widespread. I also saw a couple of pics: Holy swiss cheese,Batman! I've never seen frames rusted so badly! What amazed me was that the exterior panels and nearby sheetmetal looked great! How the hell does that happen? I know one thing, I'd take a look underneath before I rode in a Tacoma. The rust I saw was so bad I don't know how the truck hadn't already collapsed under its own weight! What I haven't been able to find is any sort of explanation of how/why this happens.
  6. My god! BV: are all of those turn-ins for this issue? If so, Toyota really stepped in it this time. Incredibly, unbelieveably, bad. What a mess, as much as I hate Toyota they really did make a solid compact truck for many years. This is going to wound them deep.
  7. I really want to have my own setup for painting so I can avoid this huge hassle with every project. But that isn't realistic for me right now, so...
  8. Well, because I'd like to get down to a smaller number of projects at the same time generally. And because I keep seeing cars I'd like to have and don't have the cash. :AH-HA_wink: This truck could be on the road and street legal with very little work, the engine has all of 2 miles on it, the frame has been blasted and painted, and I have tons of new GM stuff ready to bolt on. The holdup, as usual, is finding an affordable and reliable bodyshop to get the paint done. That's the only reason it wasn't finished a couple of years ago. The bodyshop "never got to it" and lost a pair of doors I had for it as well as the body hardware. Not a done deal yet, but I may bail out of this one to move other things forward. I have too much in it to give it away though, so we'll see what happens.
  9. I'm toying with the idea of just putting this one back together and selling it as is.
  10. I haven't earned any respect yet, I'm just in the "considering it strongly" mode so far. BTW: I haven't smoked in my cars since '87.
  11. Thanks dfelt. It's just that smokers really have been persecuted over the last decade or so. We all know it's not good for us, but the attack on smokers has been unkind at best.
  12. Hmm, actually heavy-handed legislation is the only thing that makes me want to keep smoking. That kind of thing tends to get my Irish up.
  13. 2 packs a day - everyday I think it has to end.
  14. $$$$$
  15. I got a grin from imagining how absurd I would look if I did that.
  16. What a pal.
  17. :rotflmao: No. Not in this lifetime.
  18. 2 doors too many. Doesn't hold a candle to the ST, or the Denali XT for that matter. I like this much better:
  19. Nah, I think they are cool cars and all, but a B-59 wouldn't make me reconsider my plans for my other projects. What I found on ebay could. :AH-HA_wink:
  20. But, this is the lowest mileage example I've seen in forever. That's why it caught my eye. Most of them seem to have been driven into the ground.
  21. Not really, I've found something more in budget (at least to start) and even that will be a stretch at best. But these 2-doors are extremely rare and cool - and only built in '64 &'65. I'd really love to have one one day. I wish Pontiac had built a version, that would make a great Phantom project, wouldn't it?
  22. Nah. I'm going to keep this one to myself for a few days to see if I can pull-off a miracle. But I will say this, it has the potential to change my plans for Project Camino. :AH-HA_wink:
  23. I know the feeling. Check the sharpening thread. :AH-HA_wink:
  24. Now I'm wondering how fast I could unload the Mothertruck.... Why do I find this stuff when I'm broke?!
